After many months of renovation, Bizarro, formerly known as Medusa, is now open to the public!

Mark Kane, SFGA President, announces the opening of Bizarro

Most of the staff here at Outpost have had the opportunity to ride Bizarro, and we can safely say that it has given Medusa a new lease on life that should keep the crowds coming to ride this coaster all through the season.

To start off with, we all know that Medusa in itself was a great ride. The world's first floorless coaster, it opened at Great Adventure in April of 1999. The coaster has been loved ever since, but in recent years has begun to have small lines, and is situated in a pretty quiet corner of the park.

So enter Bizarro - Six Flags' transformation of Medusa into a new coaster with new sights and sounds throughout the ride. When you first enter the queue you will see, well, some Bizarre things. Like what? Well, a wagon with square wheels and a cow on the side of a building, for starters! Also throughout the queue is story information about who or what Bizarro actually is. And obviously you can see that the whole place got a paint job.

When you get up into the station the first thing you will notice are the updated trains!

Each row now has five speakers between the seats to make sure everyone can hear the sounds throughout the ride. And you will definitely notice that the last row of each train now only has two seats - the audio system is taking up the middle!

Once you are in your seat and launching out of the station, a story will begin to unfold in the speakers. It definitely gets you going, and it is something you listen to throughout the ride. As best we can figure a wormhole opens in the middle of Metropolis, and the police/army go to investigate. Lois Lane comes as well, and ends up falling into the wormhole. This all happens as you go up the lift. Noises are heard inside, and as you begin to go down the first drop and through the first new effect (fog and flashing lights!) you enter the wormhole yourself. At one point you hear someone scream "Take cover!" and then you go through a loop into fire!

Throughout the rest of the ride you are sent around bizarre (and through) images of buildings, and even around (TWICE!) a misting Auger of Doom!

I won't spoil the end of the ride for you with the audio, lets just say its something you need to experience for yourself. But it doesn't sound like Bizarro has been defeated, that's for sure! Bizarro #1!

All in all, this was a great update to an already great coaster. Everyone should go and check it out this season. If you liked Medusa at all, then you will love what it has become. After writing this all I can think of is that I want to go back on it again to hear the effects and get pumped up some more!

Oh, and I have to say one of my goals is to see this coaster in the dark. With the lights, fire, fog effects (and I hear the main entrance sign lights up as well), this could be something to really see. And ride.

So what are you waiting for? Go ride Bizarro!

And I'll leave you with one final thought: Bizzaro Your Hero Now!

Great updates today!! You really provided a service to those of us who are not able to be there to see this open. Sounds even better than the X2 rehab. Thanks

Congratulations on giving Medusa an exciting second life.
I think this is going to be very popular night time ride at the park!

The Biggest effect or NEW to the ride to me would be the soundtrack
mostly hearing it during the climb up the hill and in the brake run
Bizarro Bizarro Bizarro #1
ride it a few times and you will be humming it for a awhile

B-Roll
I see in the 2nd row from left to right
Joe, Wade Ted, Me

Good screams from the front

where is the HD version ?

Yo Jerry, you know what I just remembered...your camera has bluetooth in it. Do you think you could take a pic, transfer it to your phone, then upload it via our mobile page?

This is a long one so hang on.
First of all six flags, put the streamers in a better place next time. But as for the ride, AMAZING!! The flames were way cooler than I thought they would be and the scenery was great. The auger dissapointed me a little though. I mean it had a boat propeller on it, come on! Don't get me wrong the mist was awesome, but it should have been bigger. The horse on the was was very comical though. I loved that they kept the medusa mineing sign. And those bizarro sheild hoops at the first drop were awesome and terrifying at the same time. The audio was also very good on the chainlift and the brakes but i couldn't hear it very well on the rest of the ride. I took lots of pictures and will try to put them in a gallery tonight. Great Job Six Flags! Golf Clap

Six Flags had the confetti in a good place. The wind just took it. You can't control the wind.

excellent review and pics. the flame throwers really 'heat' up the queue line areas, I could feel it anywhere from the 120m to 60m signage today when i rode around 6pm. The wait times are equiv to old medusa and nitro, still very fast loads, about 1/2 to 1/3 the wait of posted signs when full. I need earplugs for the theme song at the end, since it will get stuck in my head, i don't recall hearing anything in the soundtrack during the middle, only soundtrack during the lift, the brakes, the flame throwers, and of course the bizzaro #1 song when re-entering the station.

I really have to ride this. Maybe tomorrow when I go back. I had my SLR today so I opted out. But the line was probably 20 minutes.

I like that the "S Shield's" have diffrent pattern's at diffrent times. When I rode it, it was a White Light Chasing Pattern. When My Wife rode it, it was a Multicolored Pattern. Gives it some Variety, not every ride is the same.
