So, when do you think it will be visible from outside the park. If at all. Of course you could always take reed rd  I suppose. I was thinking more from the lake area off 537.
Title: Sixflags.com Construction Pictures
Post by: gadvrider2 on November 19, 2005, 10:23:15 AM
I dont think you could see it out of the park. You cant even see Scream Machine, or Nitro outside of the park.

You would probally be able to see it from reed road becouse you can see Medusa....

Post by: Robert T Ackerman on November 19, 2005, 02:12:40 PM
I think there's a good chance you'll be able to see it over the lake once its complete... You can see Batman, The Chiller, Big Wheel, Ka... it's possible... I guess we'll have to wait until it's topped off!

Post by: Bubba Z on November 19, 2005, 02:14:24 PM
If you take 426?  537  and Reed rd   You can see Scream Machine, Parachutes, Chiller ,Nitro etc  all from previous pictures from the construction of Kingda KA.  I guess I could take I drive soon.  :D

Wooden coaster construction is so much more fun to watch than a typical steel coaster.

All I've been hearing that it won't be ready, it won't be ready, but I think it will. It's a tight compact coaster that won't take that long to build. It'll pick up after the lift is done. I mean it is the only mechanical part and the highest part.

Exactly. Thats what i keep saying. Its not like theres all these rigorous tests it has to go through either. It will be like, if it can get through the course, then its fine. :P

As of this past Monday night, the 21st, the discussion I had seemed to indicate things are right on schedule and maybe even slightly ahead.

However, NJ weather is impossible to predict.  I'd say it isn't even possible to say if the ride will be open on time or not this early in the game.

We are forgetting that they still have to install the cable lift. How long do you think this will be since it has never been done on a wooden coaster ever before?

Well you add that time in plus the factor that this has never been done before on a woodie so you got that trial and error period. Hopefully this thing works perfectly.

New 12-29-05 pics
http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/parkpress/photos.html

Dec. 28 - On Dec. 20 the lift hill was topped off at 188 feet.  We are now focused on bent assembly for the hairpin turn at the top of the lift hill to the first drop.  Massive bents will be assembled on the ground, lifted and set in place to an erected height of 187 feet.

The winch drum for the cable and catch car system has been set.  As we move forward, we are in the process of setting up a separate lift-detail gang to focus on El Toro?s track and mechanical assembly.
Work continues at a steady pace throughout the area.  Last week a concrete pour for the station bent footings was complete.  During this last week of 2005, excavation work in the Plaza del Carnaval section will continue from the return to La Cocina restaurant.

How do you find hidden pictures? Did you just search or something?

Any way a really liked this picture that you found

That one really does show how big El Toro really is.

Post by: blazzinmatt on January 02, 2006, 12:48:20 PM
Hidden pictures are found by changing the number in the image name. Last year they did this with Kingda Ka. People changed the number in the file name and found pictures that weren't posted to the gallery. I thought I might try it on the El Toro pictures and I found them.

I wonder why they do that.  Oh well.  I agree, that one of the lift from near the station looks sweet.

Hows that for painstakingly slow progress!
Title: Sixflags.com Construction Pictures
Post by: sfgadvfreak on January 02, 2006, 09:20:07 PM
I guess the 2nd picture gives you somewhat of an explaination of why they hide pictures.  They put the pics on the site, and then find out they look a little blurry, or they just don't like the way they look, and post link them to the public.
Title: Sixflags.com Construction Pictures
Post by: blazzinmatt on January 02, 2006, 09:44:56 PM
See, but they still don't have to upload them to the server. I still want to find out why they hide some pictures from the GP and make us enthusiasts find them ourselves when we get really, really bored.

But they can put them on the server then realize that it doesn't look the way they wanted it too, or that they just didnt have enough to time make a thumbnail of it as well.  I guess they like leaving stuff for us to find and get happy about.

The park uploads them and somebody in the sixflags central IT department makes the changes.  Thats why there is usually overlap between the two.

Actually the Wheel looks like it is right in position. The picture is just decieving. In that picture the lift goes from right to left. It stops where contruction is currently at.

Hey, I was there to and I believe. But you can't tell me once you haven't said to yourself "That's it so far"  October 1st till Now,  with 87 days left to go.  We see the massive amount of work done, but not everyone sees it that way. They want the whole thing up already., not just the lift hill. Me, I just want them to Build it right so when it does open it will have  minimal or no down time at all.

I have a strong feeling that there will be little to no flaws in the ride and there will be minimal downtime during the '06 season. There are many woodies and most of them have been around for a while so we know how they work. It should be great to have it run optimally for the entire season.

Don't worry Nick, I believe you and Wade.  The lift of coarse is probably the hardest part next to the station because it is more componants than just the track.
Title: Sixflags.com Construction Pictures
Post by: overlord on January 04, 2006, 05:42:07 PM
This thing should rocket once they get down the lift and the first drop. Its not like the drop is right after the lift so theres an extra what? 50-100 ft. of track for the turn. Once they get this section done, it will be ahead of schedule.
Title: Sixflags.com Construction Pictures
Post by: Nitro1118 on January 04, 2006, 06:32:50 PM
I know from GADV's perspective it is right on time, but in 2 months we still have no platform to the station, no transfer track, the lift has just been completed but 1/2 without track, we have no queue whatsoever, station still needs some fixing up....oh and not to mention 3 camelbacks in a row over 100ft, all with pretty large structures. Then we got another 1,000ft or so to go before brake run. Then we got testing, etc....

I do not know what time table GADV has set up so this is on time, but there is no way this thing is gonna be open for April 1st IMO. Even if they do move at the speed they have since it was topped off....that isn't much. It has advanced about 20ft, with a little added to the strcuture, in yes, 2 full weeks. Construction times MUST be made up after this lift/drop is completed, or we are looking at a end of April opening at the earliest.
Title: Sixflags.com Construction Pictures
Post by: overlord on January 04, 2006, 06:44:39 PM
^So what if it opens at the end of april? It will still open. I figure let them take their time and make sure they do their work right. That way we dont have any break downs or atleast major ones. It will definately be open before june. This thing will be sweet but we must be patient right now.

Even if they do rush, there is a great chance this thing will work flawlessly. Both Colossos and Balder are very reliable, and we are using a lift system very similar to Goliath at Walibi, which works very well. The only thing they shouldn't rush is programming the ride and not messing that up like S:UF. The actual structure, as long as part of it doesn't collapse liek SoB, can be somewhat rushed.

PS- If it opens in late April, that is an extra few weeks before I get my first taste of that sweet ejector airtime in nearly 2 years
Title: Sixflags.com Construction Pictures

I hope they don't rush it either to get it open, but I still think itll open between April 1st and May 1st. Not sure when but sometime between then. The footers are all in place and the bents are together, all they have to do is put them up and they are good to go.

I agree with Tmac. There is a lot to be done, but some of these parts can be done rather quickly. I think as soon as the big hills are done, the ride will really speed up. The only part they may give them a little trouble is the crossing over in RT's infield. However, you also have to think about PDC, which all has to be done as well. I have a feeling GAdv wasn't shooting for opening day anyway. Them saying "right on schedule" could mean the ride being completed in April, May, June whatever. We will just have to wait and see

Its the way construction always is. Theres always going to be delays and what not. Just gotta sit them out and wait. Thats all.

But they are not delayed, they are on schedule    The big question is on schedule for what opening. That is the big question.

Personally, I'm excited just to finally get some rides on KK (only got 2 after waiting a total of 10+ hours last year).

If it was scheduled to be open on opening day, they wouldn't have generalized it as Spring 2006. I also don't see them opening ET before the PDC, but rather the other way around (assuming PDC is ready before ET).

King was a MAJOR construction roller coaster.  It also had to have rigerous testing and had to be approved which took awhile.

El Toro isnt going to be as bad (i hope) as long as we dont get harsh weather from here on out.  Most of the work will be done on El toro before PDC starts to take shape i think.  It doesnt look as though anything was touched just yet.

I agree, KK took a long time because of its stature. But, I knwo for a fact S:UF took about 2 weeks of testing before opening day, and most coasters take 1-3 weeks of testing.

I think they would wait until spring break time (April 5th-20th area) to open ET and PDC together, rather than opening one or the other 1-3 weeks earlier when both aren't ready together.

and thats going to be a hard call to make because i have first hand seen very litle work on PDC.  I dont know what they plan to do.. but they have a long way to go.

I have high hopes for PDC, but the only problem I see ahead is they have to wait for ET's first half to be completed as the coaster goes right through the PDC. But, GK went up really quickly, and that construction started late. Also, take into consideration PDC is smaller, and yeah....

The Golden Kingdom did go up pretty fast even though construction on it started late. I think that PDC will go up quicker than everyone thinks it will go up. It might open a bit later than El Toro does, but it won't be that much later. I am sure Six Flags has a plan on what they should do and how its going to work based on a certain number of bad weather days.

How can El Toro open but not PDC? Do you mean it will be finished before the other or they are going to shut down the area just like it is now? How will you ride El Toro if the area is closed and is the only enterance to the ride?
Title: Sixflags.com Construction Pictures
Post by: stew560 on January 05, 2006, 06:25:22 PM
The theming doesn't need to be complete to open the ride. They could just leave construction barriers up along the path to RT/ET if they needed to...
Title: Sixflags.com Construction Pictures
Post by: overlord on January 05, 2006, 06:40:02 PM
Thats what i was thinking. But they wouldnt leave a whole section closed unless theres no pathway to reach El Toro by, you know? I want to ride RT. Then El Toro and compare the air time. I bet you know whos going to win.

Well, I'll try to ask but somehow, I doubt they will be willing to share this type of info (if they even know).

I am really curious to see how they handle this as well.  I guess they could just get the pathways finished and keep temp fencing in place in front of the stores and buildings until they are done.

ALSO new journal update

Jan. 6, 2006 - Despite recent inclement weather, progress continues for the erection of El Toro's supports and track placement. Earlier this week, column 58 was topped off at 188 feet. We are currently at a height of 97 feet through column 63. Column 63 is the area where the track starts to turn between the lift hill and the first drop.

Phase 1, 2 and 3 of ride foundations at the lift and station area are substancially complete. Phase 4 foundations which run along the Lahaway Creek, then makes the turn behind Wildside Pizza is 65% complete. Engineering for the final foundation phases 5 and 6 have been completed and are in fabrication for reinforcing.

Me too. With all the footers and everything in place the coaster will go up very fast. I know there are airtime hills, but I am sure they planned it out so that everything would go up really quickly. They know their deadline, whatever it may be and I am sure they will meet it. I am hoping and looking forward to an opening day ride on ET.

You have to remember that the pouring the footers is the most important work to do right now.  You can erect framing when it's low temperature and snowy but you can't pour concrete.  This winter has been very beneficial to construction with all the unseasonably warm days.

That structure is so tall.  Is one thing seeing a number on paper.. but seeing a picture of it next to RT is striking.

It would appear as though they ran out of lumber for ET.. and decided to takesome from RT. :D

I think theyre track walking.. possibly tuning it up a bit?  Who knows.. but any work on RT is for the better.  Imagine if they really fixed it up nice for the debute of ET.  Than we would have not 1 but 2 classic woodies giving wonderful rides.

Jan. 12, 2006 With the mild weather we?re experiencing in central New Jersey, the size of El Toro?s massive structure increases daily. Over the last couple days, the first bent in the curve at the top of the lift hill (#63) was erected to completion.

Workers are busy throughout the entire construction site. The electrical underground conduit, which will run the motor control room, is nearly 40% completed. Storm sewer and sanitary relocation will be starting soon along with installation of the underground air lines necessary for the ride?s braking system.

The layout for Phase 5 foundation work has been started. Phase 5 is the area inside Rolling Thunder?s track where El Toro crosses over and continues along Rolling Thunder?s return track .

This weekend was really strange.  I seriously thought a hurricane was roaring through (which I should know about after being in FL for Francis).  The wind was ripping through harder than I remember in recent memory for NJ.  I then wake up Sat to learn that we were in a tornado watch area   .

Then, Saturday night, the wind kicks up even more.  I could hear the ice pelting my windows.  We woke up for church early Sunday expecting to dig out, clear the cars, etc. and find almost NOTHING on the ground.  Just some ice on the grass and car windows (the sliding doors wouldn't open either) but the roads and walks were clear.

BUT, after driving up 295N for 10 miles to the haddonfield-berlin road exit for Church, I was completely shocked that the roads were completely covered and there was at least 4 inches on the ground.  The roads were solid ice.  You could barely drive on them.

This was a really strange and spotty storm.  Hopefully it didn't affect El Toros construction much and even better would be if Jackson was one of the spots like my town that didn't get hit at all!

Post by: stew560 on January 16, 2006, 10:25:06 AM
The wind here in Jackson made everything very interesting. In my development, there was 4" some places, piles of ice elsewhere, and nothing other places.

I just hope the high winds didn't have any effect on the partially finished structure! <knocks on wood>

The wind gust were up to 50 mph. I cant believe there was 4 inches of snow  only 8 miles away when there was nothing outside my house except a dusting.
In any case, these guys get paid  pretty well and I don't see it effecting them that much since this storm happened over the weekend. They will just have to bundle up and wear more clothes.

Wow...when I got up on Sunday there was basically no snow left. Saturday night it was coming down pretty hard, but in the morning, there was barely anything there. Late Sunday, basically everything transformed to ice because of the rain over the past few days. Now, it is still pretty icy out, but most of the snow is gone. I was excepting a little more than that...

Jan. 19, 2006 The high winds and rain this week were definitely a challenge. We continued erection to bent 65 at the curve of the lift hill. We started erection at column lines 101 to 107 which runs parallel with the station pass the invert of the first drop. Foundation will continue through phase four and layout continues for phase five and six.

Foundation work for retail structures such as the ride photo building and merchandise kiosks will begin in the near future.

When they say bent erection, this means that most of the constructon happens on the ground.  WE saw a bent go vertical one day and it was asite to see.  Most roller coasters as we have explained.. go right up vertical.. but these a re erected from the ground because it is apparently easier this way.  We'll see bents 101-107 go up fast in the next few days bearing the weather.

the most important thing as i have stated.. footers are almot 100%

And Toro is moving MUCH faster now!

Thanks for the heads up :)

It was noted over on Source that the second pic is at least over a week old! If you reference GACoaster's pic here (http://www.amusementpics.com/SFGAdv%20Opening%20Day%2006/033106-058.jpg), which was taken Last weekend, it shows more progress than the pic posted today.

Otherwise, it's a good overall update to show the progress... just not up to date progress! :P

I live in Hamilton which is 15 minutes east of the park and it rained pretty hard this morning but stopped before 10 and hasnt rained since. Its actually pretty nice out really. I think it would be a good time to shoot down there and do some rides.

Great new update from the park. This is the final stretch for El Toro. Just a week or so left, and we'll finally be riding this beast! When you think about it, we've been awaiting this coaster for about a full year now, due to that leaked German newspaper. It's certainly been a long way. I can't wait to get on this thing!

i've been thinking about that newspaper article recently, does anybody remember CC 05.

someone in back: you don't have to, a german newspaper told us everything. It's all over the internet.

^ Somebody is pulled out alot of hair translating the German!

I just hope none of the water dummies dont lose their heads or fall out during testing! I don't wanna hear the GP say stupid rumors again, even though....it was funny... ;D
Title: Re: Sixflags.com Construction Pictures
Post by: overlord on May 21, 2006, 11:43:53 AM
^German is actually really easy to read. Sometimes you need the translator for the slang words.

So now that El Toro is finishing up its construction, what do you think is next on their agenda? A little rehab on RT in minor ways?
Title: Re: Sixflags.com Construction Pictures
Post by: blazzinmatt on May 21, 2006, 05:28:51 PM
I think they are going to start working on the path to the bridge that connects El Toro and Medusa which will be so much nicer to have that open. Let's hope that gets open soon because it gets rid of the dead end at that end of the park.

This message has been posted from my Blackberry.
