Well, it's official. Looks like the "Spider of Doom" really did mean something! It's not known if the name Medusa will be retained starting next year but it doesn't appear it will. See the press release. I have some really fond memories of my favorite steel coaster at SFGAd, from the puking frat/sorority kids at the media event to getting paid to ride for a Canon print ad shoot! Medusa is also one of my most ridden coasters anywhere. I look forward to whatever the park has in store for her. Should be exciting! ;D

Well at least people will stop complaining about it needing a paint job. I'm all for breathing new life into existing rides so hopefully this gives good results and is well received.

Its about time they gave this ride a face lift. They really should add a flat or two somewhere in that location to bring some more guests to that side of the park.

wow. I don't get it. I don't want to get anyone upset, but so far this seems like a big waste of Six Flags' money.

Medusa is a solid ride, but it's popularity has waned in recent years. A refurbishment such as this will not only re-energize the ride, but provide a sense of "What's next" for people, provided they do a good job with it. Simply painting rides gives the park a new, refreshed look and feel, adds confidence to the guest that you're in a place that's well maintained, and allows a little more mental freedom and ease to enjoy yourself. A makeover like this goes above and beyond in that category.

The dip in popularity on a ride with a good reputation for providing a great experience for the guests was probably the motivation behind the decision to revamp it versus Nitro or Batman the Ride (Which would be AWESOME!)

Simply put, People judge books by their covers, the ride is good, but it looks bad when its rusting

Let's just hope that the bridge is re-opened next year. Because the ride could be the most amazing thing in the world, but if I have to walk down a dead-end Frontier Adventures to get to it that won't happen too often.

I noticed the blue parts were much faster on Sunday!
It must be some new extremely expensive high-tech paint.
The side rails when going back into the station were also painted.

I just received what has to be one of the most odd packages ever from a theme park. I got a package from Jimmy Olsen (even the return address label was unique) that contained a letter, the same newspaper that other people here have seen and a flash drive. Yes, they mailed me a real flash drive. I'm shocked it survived the postal service machines!
On the drive were two video files which I'll attempt to attach here :)

Jimmy Olsen here. Usually I'm out taking photos of Superman, but right now I've got somebody else on my mind - Lex Luthor.
I've uncovered his evil plan to install brainwashing devices on two rollercoasters - Superman: Ride of steel and Medusa. I know that sounds absurd, but it's true. I've made contact with a source inside LexCorp that confirms the details of the plan.
Now, I'm working with people all over the country to create what I've been calling an "anti-brainwashing beam."
I am contacting you because I know you have influence within the community. Included in the package is a newspaper article which began my suspicions, a flash drive of my videos revealing Lex Luthor's plan, and a hardhat revealing LexCorp's connection to the company transforming the coasters.

On the blueprints picture, you can clearly see what looks to be flamethrowers and it looks like something being done to the corkscrews area and the helix out of the MCBR.

Acutally, now that i look at it the green on the computer looks like it comes right after the first drop. Oh I forgot, You should all come out to see northern burlingtons (my school) musical on april 2,3,and 4. I won't expect anyone to come on the fourth. It's at the new north hanover upper elementary school. We are performing footloose. I will try to get the show times .8)

I was thinking the cobra roll would be a good spot for the flame throwers spectator-wise, but I guess the dive loop is a safer location that still offers visibility from the queue. Anybody have any idea what the other effects are? What I'm most looking forward to is the on-board speakers, that will be the deal maker or breaker for me I think, so I can't wait to see those and hear what soundtrack they choose.

As someone who has ridden X2, you definitely do not want to have those flame throwers anywhere close to spectators. They are freaking hot and the temperature can be felt in all directions of the first blast.

It now features a splash down.
The trains will now shoot flames from the back as well.
More flames in the Cobra roll. Make sure you get an inside seat !
You need to wear an ipod now. They saved money by not including the speakers on the train.
No more restraints, just Velcro suits and seats.
They removed a section of the track. This way the train can fly like a superhero.
The laser guns should be ready by opening day.
But most of all, Dan you should like this, They are almost finished with the building that will enclose Medusa.
With all the money the park made last season, maybe FUN did buy it ? ;)

So what you're proposing is that Lex Luthor is retheming Medusa as "PETA: The Ride"? It's like "Old-School carousel" meets "New-School roller coaster", where brass rings are replaced with baboons, and instead of throwing them at targets like the rings, one is encouraged to hold on to them and liberate them from the Safari? Sweet!

It's upside-down inverted coaster, Matt. You ride with your head towards the ground. Loading will take a while. People will be sliding out of the harnesses until they get the hang of it. People will have to do a handstand and put one leg at a time into the ankle restraints.

So after that whole thing over the weekend with Screamscape saying SFNE coupons were calling Superman "Bizzaro" we were wondering about the Great Adventure ones. Steve found some today at Wawa, and they just say that Medusa will be transformed. Yay.

Bubba, I actually had a guests that visits the park often say that he didn't care for the transformation unless they could make the lightning effect happen during the ride. Because I actually have a decent rapport built up with him since I first met him during El Toro's media day, and have seem him several times a season (always by El Toro! LOL), I was asking him what's wrong with making a ride more like a show? In the end he still thinks that SF ruined both rides, but he at least was going to ride both Bizarros before casting them off permanently. I have a feeling he'll eat his words though, LOL.

Whats that tower ??? Is that in the middle of the helix? But i have to say the auger of doom dissapointed me. They portraied it as a much bigger menacing, well, auger. Unless the camera makes it look smaller than it is. But the sign really pleased me. :golfclap:

I'll have to wait and see it for myself. I know the support columns for the ride are rather large themselves so when comparing it to those, it may be plenty large. So I'd wait and see on that :).

I wonder how close were actually going to the auger during the ride? I hope not as close as El Toros first drop. Those wooden poles scare the crap out of me!

Look at the Seetheride Blueprint Shot. It looks as if the Auger will be staight thru the middle of the Corkscrew's (the red line on the blueprint) I know it will spin, but it would be cool if it rises as well.

AHHHH!! I SEE A HEAD CHOPPER MOMENT ON BIZARRO!! :o AND I THOUGHT EL TORO WAS BAD! FIVE SUPERMAN (or Bizarro) LOGOS ON THE FIRST DROP :o What are all those prop buildings for anyway? But seriously head chopper moments freak me out. I literally look like this guy on el toros first drop :o Thanks Railer! i just got a chance to look at your gallery.

For those of you that were wondering, the Auger is now up and in place. I do not have any pictures of it but it is there and it is fairly large.
The blue wagon now has square wheels and it looked like there was a horse of some sort near the entrance.

The Bluprint is in the pics. on Seetheride.com. I will be at the Park Friday morning, I will get some more shot's of the week's progress, I am sure there has been alot done this week with the nice Weather. And one very cool thing that I did not get ant shot's of was the "backside" of the Bizarro sign, it say's "I'm Your Hero Now" With a picture of the Bizarre one. You can see it from The Runaway Train.

The LED shields do indeed look nice (even during the day).
They really should have placed our shields closer to the entrance or queue.
I can't wait to meet the Auger of Doom.

^I agree the Shields would have looked great right after the Zero-g and before the cobra roll. They will still be awesome at the the bottom of the drop though.
