I've known about the automakers' support problems ever since the rumor that Dodge was coming back in '01. In this kind of economy, GM only supports two teams, which are Hendrick and Earnhardt Gannassi Racing. Dodge only supports Penske now, since they are the only win contending team driving Dodges now. Ford supports both Roush and Yates racing teams while Toyota has Gibbs and Red Bull. The support of manufacturers is important to Nascar since money is the backbone to the sport. And one thing that I heard recently was that Volkswagen could possibly join the sport in the upcoming years. What car they'll use I don't know, but Nascar won't allow a diesel engine in the races and all of VW's cars run by Diesel fuels.

edit: GM also supports RCR. Ford is expanding its support to include Front Row Motorsports who will be fielding three FULL time rides in 2010. using the #34,37, and the #38. all cars have drivers on the team, but sponsorship could be an issue.

Another announcement: Nascar is planning to transition to the old aluminum spoiler that was used before the COT (Car of Tomorrow). This announcement came earlier this week and it is going to be tested at charlotte motor speedway on March 22nd-23rd. The spoiler can show up as early as martinsville which is taking place the weekend after the test.
Quote
Specifications for the new spoiler and quarterpanels on Sprint Cup cars were sent in a memo Monday to teams by series director John Darby. According to the memo the spoiler that will replace the current wing will sit 4 inches atop the deck lid when measured from the centerline. The spoiler will be level across the top with a ground clearance of 43.52 inches from the top of the spoiler to the ground with the chassis on 6- and 8-inch blocks. The spoiler will be 64½-inches wide and one piece from right to left. It will be fabricated from 3/16-inch thick aluminum and fixed at 70 degrees. The fuel filler hole must be relocated forward of the left lower tip of the spoiler. Also, right and left quarterpanel extensions will be added to all cars. The extensions will be 4 inches long toward the ground at the rear wheel opening. The modifications, according to the memo, are not to be used in competition until all wind tunnel and on-track tests are completed. An open test [at Charlotte] is scheduled for all teams in March. The changes are being made in hopes of improving downforce and improving the quality of racing. They are not expected to be used for the Daytona 500 that kicks off the season on Feb. 14. The Bristol race in March is a more likely target.

The petty-yates racing merger is final! The team will field four full time cars in 2010, the #9,19,43 and the #98. The #43 will be filled with Aj Allmendinger and will be sponsoredby Best Buy. The #98, the only car from last years yates team, will be filled by Paul Menard and be sponsored by Menard's stores and associates. These four cars will be fords in 2010, also. A big note to this is that in 2008, before all the mergers, they were three teams fielding nine cars. Now they are down to four.

most likely changes for 2010 season: from jayski.com (http://jayski.com)

Quote
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series' New Car Moves From Wing To Spoiler and other changes: NASCAR has announced that it will relax some on-track rules, putting racing back in drivers' hands in 2010. The changes, which begin with next month's season-opening events at Daytona International Speedway, will allow drivers to be even more competitive. Race rule changes were one of several announcements during Thursday's annual media-tour presentation at NASCAR's Research & Development Center in Concord, N.C. NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France said the loosening of on-track reins is another step in enhancing competition and back-to-basics racing. "Over the past 10 years we've dramatically increased safety and that mission continues. However, it's time for us to allow the drivers to drive. We don't want the rules and regulations to get in the way of great racing and fantastic finishes," said France. "NASCAR is a contact sport our history is based on banging fenders."

Among the changes: Bump-drafting rules will be eliminated at Daytona and Talladega Superspeedway. Teams also will use a bigger restrictor plate at Daytona. Eliminating bump-drafting rules puts responsibility for on-track moves squarely back in drivers' hands. Larger restrictor plates give drivers more horsepower.

NASCAR also announced a significant change to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series' new car, including replacing the wing currently mounted on the rear of the car with a spoiler. A full-field test is scheduled for March 23-24 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Following that, a decision on when to implement the spoiler will be made based on teams' input. The switch from wing to spoiler will return to a more traditional stock-car look. "Over the last couple of years, there have been dozens of changes to this car, with this being the most visible change," said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition.

Also significant: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Director John Darby has been promoted to Managing Director of Competition, with oversight of all three national series' directors, officials, inspection processes and race officiating. He will continue in his series director's role until his successor is found. "Probably no one is more qualified for this new job than John," Pemberton said. "He knows and understands the officiating and inspection processes better than anyone and is the perfect fit."

For those who don't understand, Daytona will have a larger restrictor plate than ever before(since '89). What that means is the cars will go faster. The yellow line is a "no passing zone" where if you go below it, even by an inch, and complete a pass it will not count. You can give the spot back to the driver or face a penalty where you have to drive through the pits. The only time you can use the yellow line is to avoid incidents.

Another big change is the bump-drafting, which helps the cars go even faster. Before, you weren't allowed to bump in the corners and for one race not at all. Now they plan on allowing them to race heads up with no major on-track limits for the entire race. Which could make the races much better or become a saftey hazard for both drivers and spectators.

The other change will take place later in the year, which involves the cars going back to the old spoiler that they used in the old car. Who knows what'll happen with it, but they say it will help with large pack racing. So instead of having a shoe-box with a wing, it'll be a shoe-box with a fin. If that makes some of it clearer.

Nascar will be cutting the earnings the drivers recieve this year. This is an effort to ease the burden of the race tracks which are responsible for some of the racing winnings.

Quote
NASCAR is cutting by about 10 percent the race winnings it will award teams in the Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Truck Series this season, officials confirmed on Friday. The reduction is part of cost-cutting measures that will alleviate some of the financial burdens on tracks that have suffered during a tough economic environment that has forced them to cut ticket prices with declining attendance. "Last year we launched an industry-wide effort to help the sport manage budgets in this economy," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Friday. "NASCAR did the right thing to work with the tracks to reduce their costs in order to manage the economic realities. In return, the tracks have done a great job reducing ticket prices and enhancing the fan experience. Likewise, we worked with the teams to contain costs such as elimination of testing and other steps. This is consistent with how virtually every sport and business has adjusted to the economy over the past year." Bruton Smith, the chairman of Speedway Motorsports Inc., which owns nine tracks that host Cup, Nationwide and Truck events, applauded NASCAR for making the cut. He doesn't believe drivers will particularly like it, "but they understand."(ESPN.com (http://ESPN.com))(1-29-2010)

Here is the procedure for the Duels on Thursday: (from Jayski.com (http://Jayski.com))

Quote
Pole Day: This “locks in” the first two positions – the front row – for the Daytona 500. It also establishes the starting orders for the Gatorade Duel at Daytona, which are two 150-mile qualifying races for the Daytona 500.

The fastest car earns the pole for the Daytona 500 AND the pole for the first Gatorade Duel race.
The second-fastest car earns the outside pole for the Daytona 500 AND the pole for the second Gatorade Duel race.
The Gatorade Duel at Daytona: These two 150-mile qualifying races set positions 3-39 for the Daytona 500.

A combined total of 66 cars will be allowed into the two Gatorade Duel races.
Cars must compete in one of the Gatorade Duel races, in order to race in the Daytona 500.
Odd-number finishers in the final car owner point standings from last season (1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.) are in the first Gatorade Duel race.
Even-number finishers in the final car owner point standings from last season (2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.) are in the second Gatorade Duel race.
Additional qualified cars that weren’t in the final top 35 in last season's owners points are alternated between the two Gatorade Duel fields using an odd-even format.

Setting the Daytona 500 field:
Cars that finished in the top 35 in last seasons final owner point standings automatically make the Daytona 500 field.
The top two starting positions are determined by Pole Day qualifying speeds.
Positions 3-39 are determined by finishing orders in the Gatorade Duel races.
The final four spots in the 43-car field will be based on Pole Day qualifying speeds of cars that have not already earned a starting position. However, if there is an eligible Sprint Cup Series past champion entered who has not already qualified, that past champion will receive the 43rd and final position. If there is more than one past champion eligible for this berth, it goes to the most recent champion.

another way to look at it:

The following cars will be assigned to the first of the two qualifying races:

The odd-number positions (1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.) of the highest-ranked 35 finishers in the final previous NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car owner points standings.

The pole winner from Pole Day Qualifying. Should the pole winner be among the highest-ranked 35 in the the previous season owner points, the pole winner will start in the first race regardless of his odd or even position in those standings. The following cars will be assigned to the second of the two qualifying races:

The even-number positions (2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.) of the highest-ranked 35 finishers in the final previous season NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car owner points standings.

The second-fastest qualifier from qualifying. Should this car be among the highest-ranked 35 in the previous season owner points, it will start in the second race regardless of its odd or even position in those standings. Additional cars that were not among the highest-ranked 35 in the final previous season car owner points will be alternated between the first and second 150-mile qualifying events using an odd-even format. The odd-number positions will be assigned to the first qualifier while the even-number positions will be assigned to the second qualifier.

The odd-even positions are not determined by where the car qualified in the overall field, but their specific qualifying order among those cars not part of the highest-ranked 35 group. For example, a car qualifies eighth overall in qualifying, but ranks third-fastest among those cars not part of the highest-ranked 35. That car would be an odd-number position and start in the first race as a result of its qualifying standing of those cars not in the highest-ranked 35.

The lineup for each qualifying race will be set based upon the qualifying speeds in the time trials for all cars, including those who are among the highest-ranked 35 in the finalprevious season car owner point standings. The highest-ranked 35 designation does not determine the car’s starting position, only the assignment of its 150-mile qualifying event.

A maximum of 66 cars will be permitted to compete between the two qualifying races, and all cars must compete in one of these events to be eligible for the Daytona 500.

Starting positions for the Daytona 500 will be designated for the highest-ranked 35 positions from the final previous season car owner point standings from each qualifier, the two-highest finishing cars in each qualifier not among that highest-ranked 35 group and the two front-row qualifiers.

The balance of the 43-car field will be filled by the fastest remaining qualifiers who have not earned a starting position, with the exception of the 43rd position which will be assigned to an eligible former or current Sprint Cup Series champion. Should there not be an eligible champion, the position will be assigned to the next fastest qualifier not in the field.

The simple version: how the Daytona 500 lineup is set:

Pos 1 and 2: Pole sitter and outside pole sitter from qualifying
[no need to be top 35 in prevoius season car Owners Points]

Pos 3 thru 39: top 35 in prevoius season car owners points and two highest finishing teams in each Gatorade Duel races race NOT in the top 35 set by their finishing postion in the Gatorade Duel races.

Pos 40-42: fastest qualifiers not in by above

Pos 43: past champion provisional - at this point only. Otherwise the spot goes to the next fastest qualifier.

The Gatorade Duel races:

The Daytona 500 pole-sitter will start on the pole of the first Gatorade Duel at Daytona. The outside pole winner will start on the pole of the second qualifying race.

Cars that finished in odd positions (first, third, fifth, etc.) in owner's points last season will fill the first qualifying race, and those with even-number finishes will compete in the second race. The lineup for each qualifying race will be set based on the qualifying speeds. Owner's points do not determine the car's starting position, only which of the two Duel races in which it will race.

Cars that were not among the highest-ranked 35 in the previous season will be alternately entered into the two 150-mile qualifying events based on qualifying speeds. The non-top 35 car with the fastest qualifying time is entered into the first (odd) Duel race, the next-fastest in the second (even) race and so on.
Yes this is a lot to read, but if you're interested in watching the duels on thursday on SPEEDtv, then this will make things much clearer.

To add to this, there are two past champions that are elligible to use the provisional, Bobby Labonte and Bill Elliot. Bill Elliot won't need the provisional becausse he qualified in the top three non-top 35. Bobby Labonte is elligible if he doesn't finish in the top 2 non-top 35. If he does finish well enough, then the final position will be given to Michael Waltrip in the #51(if he doesn't qualify for the race during the duels).

I will add the starting line-ups for the duels after this and mark who isn't guaranteed a spot in the race, I will also show their respective numbers if you want to root for anyone.

Edwards didn't intend to have Keselowski flip. If you've watched all of the races Keselowski participated in, he has had made very aggresive and stupid moves that have put many others in danger.

The other thing is that those cars have a lift off speed around 180 mph, on most of the tracks that they've raced at they've had spins doing almost 210... So it was just the way that Keselowski's car reacted to the sudden change in airflow and direction that resulted in him catching some air. and if you saw the post race interviews that weren't in that video and all the other interviews from past races, you would know he's not really accepted by most of the drivers and officials in the sport.

Congrats to Jimmie for his third win on the year and his 50th during his career. The next race is at Martinsville around 1pm on Sunday, March 28th.

This next race will be the first under the 2010 owner points and possibly the first with the new spoiler. Martinsville can be compared to a paper-clip or two drag-strips with hairpin turns connecting them.

I am happy they finally got rid of the freakin wing. Not only was it ugly, it made the cars unable to race side by side. I want to see them dippin and dodging in every turn like they use to be able to do.

Your Martinsville winner is the homestate hero Denny Hamlin!!! To bad he get surgery tomorrow for that ACL tear.
The next race will be at phoenix in two weeks. the race will start around 7 est. This race will be 375 miles long, although it says 600 on the name of the race. That is in kilometers. In simple math, Phoenix is a mile long circuit with a dog-leg about mid-way through the backstretch. IT was actually built to be for the IRL in the 80's.

A second reminder, NO SPRINT CUP RACE THIS WEEKEND!!! you can watch the trucks and nationwide from Nashville, TN if you want. They are on friday and saturday. Trucks will be friday at 7:30 on SPEED and the Nationwide will be on Saturday at 3:30 on ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC, they are very odd with the nationwide race due to all the other sports that are on at the same time.

Sorry, I've had too much homework getting back from spring break.

The Subway 600 winner is Ryan Newman. He grabbed his first win since Daytona in '08 and also got the first win for the #39 in Nascar's history.

The next race is at Texas on Sunday around 3 pm est.

Some BIG news this week... Kasey Khane signed to drive for Hendrick Motorsports in either 2011 or 2012. No year specified since all the hendrick drivers are signed through the 2011 season. He could drive one year in a Stewart-Hass car, which is supplied by Hendrick or do a one year deal with another team.
The link is here (http://[http://jayski.com/cupnews.htm#news9tue)

I'll try to fill you guys in as this develops, since this is recent and not well known at this time...

So does this mean Kahne will be taking over Martins spot? Or if Martin feels good, does he try to resign and they shift Junior out of the way?
Title: Re: The nascar forum
Post by: B-mac on April 14, 2010, 02:33:07 PM
Martin and Junior are signed through 2011, It is unknown wether Martin will retire after this season or the next... Junior and Martin can be moved to one of the Hendrick supplied teams like Stewart-Hass or James Finch Racing, Khane could also do this sort of thing in 2011 and everyone else keeps their ride. It is unknown right now and Hendrick and all the associates have a very large amount of time to sort this out.

There still is no word on what Budweiser might do with sponsorships, they could move with Khane, stay with the #9, move to another team or drop the sponsorship program after this year.

Denny Hamlin wins the Samsung 500 at Texas. Primary note: This race was postponed until today for rain. I got to annoy the hell out of my afternoon teachers so I'm happy.

The next race will be at Talladega on Sunday around 1 p.m. This race will hopefully be nothing like what happened last year...

Nothing new in rumors...

Johnson is your points leader with a 100+ point lead over second. Reminder, after race 26 that gap at that point will be gone and reset by the win totals for the 26 races.

My bad, been occupied for this week. Kevin Harvick pulled an amazing last second (literally) pass on Jamie McMurray to win Sundays race at Talladega. A couple of records were broken that day: lead changes, leaders, and winning interval(.011 seconds).

The next race will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, VA. This track is considered one of, if not the best racetrack(s) in the country. It is a three-quarter mile D-oval short track that behaves like it's a superspeedway.

Dale Jr. announced that he will drive the #3 Wrangler Chevrolet @ Daytona for the Nationwide Series in July. The car will be the series COT (Car of tomorrow) and will have a similar paint scheme to Dale Sr.'s car from the '80s.

Johnson is still your points leader with a slimmer lead due to a sub-par finish and Kevin Harvick's surprising win to put him in second in the points.

Kyle Busch won at Richmond on Saturday. Making a pass on Jeff Gordon with 5 to go. the next race is at:
Darlington, SC
Saturday, May 8th
7:00 pm

A big move with Penske for next year. The team will switch Keselowski(#12 to #2) and Kurt Busch(#2 to #22). Sam Hornish should be moving to the #12 if Verizon keeps their sponsorship, if not he'll probably stay in the #77. Keselowski will drive the Miller Lite Dodge and Kurt Busch will have to move to a new car which will be sponsored by shell. Kevin Harvick, who drives the #29 currently sponsored by Shell will not have a sponsor for next year, yet, and his contract is up at the end of the year.

Kevin Harvick is also leading the points by 10 over Jimmie Johnson heading into next weeks race.

Wins do not equal championships in Nascar. They have had years where drivers won many races and didn't win the championship. 2003 was the most notable year for this:
-Matt Kenseth won the championship with only one win
-Ryan Newman had eight wins and he finished 8th in points

*2003 was one of the reasons why they installed the current chase format used today.

-5 points for leading a lap(the first lap you lead is the five, the others aren't)
-5 extra for leading the most laps

Denny Hamlin won the southern 500 at darlington. Johnson didn't finish at darlington for the first time in his career when he got blindsided by Allmendinger's brake failed, spinning car.

The next race will be at Dover Speedway in Dover, DE. Yes, Dover. I-95 to route 13 and it's across the street from the UofDel. Trust me, I've been there before and I'm going again this year.

Nothing new in rumors and Kevin Harvick is still the points leader.

Kyle Busch wins the Autism Speaks 400 at Dover. I rather enjoyed this race since I couldn't hear myself think even with earphones.

Next race will be a non-points paying race.
The All-star weekend is a little different than the regular events so you might want to check the Jayski link here:

Again, nothing major in rumors.

Kurt Busch wins the All-Star Challenge, bagging a cool $1,000,000. The next race will be the Coca-cola 600 on Sunday around 5:30. The cool thing about this weekend is that the Indy 500 is on the same day at noon.

Brian Vickers will be out the rest of the season due to blood clots and Casey Mears will be his replacement in the #83 toyota.

Title: Re: The nascar forum

Denny Hamlin wins the Pocono 500 in the Poconos, Pennsylvania. Denny did so on a green-white-checkered restart right at the 200 lap mark, making the race 505 mile long. Kasey Kahne spun down in the grass and re-entered the track immediately getting T-boned by Mark Martin and hopping the rear end of his car over the back-stretch wall and bouncing off a small tree knocking him back on the track. And before that, Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano got together and Joey drifted all the way around turn three before finally spinning and bringing out the caution.

The link to this wreck can be found here:
http://www.nascar.com/video/cup/2010/post_race/sights_and_sounds/06/07/cup_poc_sights_sounds.nascar/index.html (http://www.nascar.com/video/cup/2010/post_race/sights_and_sounds/06/07/cup_poc_sights_sounds.nascar/index.html)

Joey made a crack on Harvick saying his wife wears the fire suit in the family. Now Harvick's wife, Delana, is selling shirts that say "I wear the fire suit in the family" and is selling them for $15 all going to charity.

Travis Kvapil and the #38 car will be penalized 150 drivers and owners points after illegal bleeder valves were found on his tires both before and after the race. Three crew members on the team will be suspended for 12 weeks, also.

The #83 will not be running Casey Mears in the road course races this year, instead they will let German Touring Car Series driver Mattias Ekström drive the car after a very quick and simple test session at VIR earlier in the month.

The next race will be at Michigan International in the Irish Hills of Michigan. This track is the two-mile long "big brother" of auto club speedway and is known for it's very high speeds going into turn 1. Some drivers can possibly reach 210 mph going into turn one at this race. Coverage begins on Sunday around 1pm.

Some rumors:

-Larger restrictor plates will be used at Daytona in July. The restrictor plates will be 1 1/32 inches and will help the cars make up for the drag created at Talladega, ironic because the cars were doing 195 by themselves...
Thank you Jayski.com, for this news:

Sorry that I wasn't able to update during the week, I was studying for my school's final exams for this week.

Denny Hamlin won at Michigan on Sunday. Making him 5 and 11 with the new spoiler so far. The next race will be at Infineon on Sunday on TNT.

The nationwide series will be racing at Road america this weekend which will mark only the second time one of nascar's top three series raced at the famed road course. This race will be on saturday on ESPN2 at 3:30.

Rumors:
-Nascar plans to remodel the front-end of the sprint cup cars next year in order to make the car brands more identifiable. SpeedTv has been saying this all week and I haven't really seen any articles on it.

-Sorenson will be moving to the #83 at New Hampshire in two weeks , replacing Casey Mears who'll move back to the #90. Ekstrom will still drive the road course races.

-Kasey Kahne could be moving to the #09 car(James Finch Racing). This car is a Hendrick partner car, so it's very similar to the tech that Hendrick Motorsports uses.

-The chase format could be changing soon. No word one what would be changed, but Nascar is asking the driver's and fans on what they would like.

Kevin Harvick wins the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona. This was quite possibly the greatest race this year with an 18-car big one in turn three, a few small pile ups and a green-white-checkered finish.

Dale Jr. won on Friday in the Subway 250 driving the Childress-DEI group tribute car to the late and great Intimidator (JR's dad). Dale practically dominated the race in the new Nationwide COT Chevy Impala. I like to say it, all the cars in that race looked absolutely sexy especially the #12 Dodge Challenger(Black w/ Verizon logo) and the #98, #6 and the #16 Ford Mustangs.

Paint schemes can be found here:

Rumors and News:

- The schedule for 2011 is already being changed, with huge differences to the previous years.
First, the knowns. California will be stripped of it's February race and that race will most likely be given to Kansas, This is ISC's wish. New Hamp. and Atlanta most likely will also lose races for Las Vegas and Kentucky, This is SMI's wishes.
http://jayski.com/pages/tracks/kansas.htm (http://jayski.com/pages/tracks/kansas.htm)

- Ethanol might not be used in 2011. By speculations and wishes to depend on biofuels during the races.
http://jayski.com/cupnews.htm#ethanol (http://jayski.com/cupnews.htm#ethanol)

- An elimination Chase Format could be used during the chase in future seasons, possibly starting next year. This is the current favorite among other ideas for the chase and is most likely to be used.

- The 2011 Hall of Fame nominees have been announced. The list of drivers can be found here:

Points:
Kevin Harvick is still the points leader after 1) winning the race and 2) by DNF's from many of the chase contenders after the 18 car crash in the latter part of the race including Jimmie Johnson and others.

Next Race will be on Saturday in Joliet, IL on Saturday around 7:30 pm EST on TNT.

Preoccupation and procrastination are nasty when put together...

There was an off-week last week so nothing new for the cup series...

BUT, The Edwards vs. Keselowski feud has been reignited with C4 and rocket fuel. Because of a nationwide series accident that took place between the two at gateway international in Missouri on the last lap less than 750 ft from the start finish line. Edwards made contact with Brad Keselowski, who was leading at that moment (ready for yet another win), spinning the #22 dodge into the outside wall. Keselowski tried to regroup and nurse the car across the line and instead spun it into the inside wall stopping mere feet from the finish line. He the preceeded to be T'boned and rear-ended within seconds forcing him across the line and absolutely destroying his car. Edwards took the win during the race while Keselowski got a sub-10 finish, a totaled ride and a second free experience this time in the spin cycle. Both are invited to settle their feud in school buses in Charlotte, NC.
http://jayski.com/cupnews.htm#news12tue (http://jayski.com/cupnews.htm#news12tue)

Edwards fate will be decided soon, which I will post if it does happen. For those who want to speculate about it, the vid is here:

The next race is at the Indianapolis Speedway in Indiana(polis). The race will be on sunday at 1:30 on ESPN. Indy is a 2.5 mile long rectangle with two long straights, two short straights, and four high-speed low banked turns.

The trucks and the nationwide will race 22 miles away at ORP (O'rielly Raceway Park) on friday and saturday night respectfully. These two races will be incredible since the fastest way around the track is inches from the wall, instead of inches from the infield.

News/Rumors:

-Boris Said will drive the #83 Red Bull Toyota at Watkins Glen International, in place of Reed Sorenson.
http://jayski.com/cupnews.htm#news83mon (http://jayski.com/cupnews.htm#news83mon)

-Nascar is looking to limit the influence Sprint Cup drivers have on racing in the Nationwide Series. Many teams in the nationwide series rely on Sprint Cup drivers to drive their car for wins, owner points and especially the championship.

Jamie McMurray wins the Brickyard 400. Chip Ganassi must feel so proud being the first person to win the triple crown of american auto racing (daytona 500, indy 500, bricky 400) in one year. The ORP races once again were exciting as ever as Ron Hornaday won on friday in the trucks and kyle busch won on saturday in the nationwide series.

The next race is back in the Poconos as the trucks will be joining for their first race in PA, ever. The trucks will be racing on Saturday while the Cup series runs on Sunday at 1:00 on ESPN.

http://jayski.com/cupnews.htm#news47tue (http://jayski.com/cupnews.htm#news47tue)

-One that I forgot was that Edwards has been penalized with a fine, 60 driver/owner points, and put on probation until the end of the year. Keselowski will also be placed on probation until the end of the year.

-Jimmy Elledge, crew chief of the #83, has been penalized for infractions during practice before the brickyard 400. The #83 car, when inspected, had an improperly attached weight during a practice session on 7/24. Elledge will be fined $25,000 for the infraction.

Greg Biffle wins the pocono/pennsylvania 500. This win has ended two big winless streaks:
1. Ford's 20+ race winless streak (Nov. 2009 @ Texas)
2. Biffle's near 30 race winless streak (Sept. 2009 @ Dover)

Don't forget about this horrifying hit that left Sadler's #19 Ford without its engine:
Pocono wreck (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Watkins_Glen_International_Circuit_Map.png?uselang=lt) everyone is fine, btw. Even though it was the hardest hit in Nascar's history.

The next race will be at Watkins Glen (International course) a 2.454 mile long track with exceptionally fast straights and 9 challenging turns. The international course is the shortest course only providing a straightaway between the wraparound turn and turn 11 on the GP map. I'll give a linkk in case anyone is confused...

The Nationwide series will be racing on saturday on ESPN around 2:30. While the sprint cup will be held on Sunday around 1:00 also on ESPN.

News/rumors:

-Jack Roush is still recovering from the plane incident in Wisconsin. Still no word on when he'll return, but good news is he can still speak and do everything else normally even after surgery.

Next race is tomorrow @ Bristol Motor Speedway around 7:30pm on ESPN

News/rumors:
- A big shake-up for drivers next year. Ambrose will replace Kahne in the #9 ford while Kasey goes for a one year stint with red bull. Budweiser, the primary sponsor for the #9 will move to the #29 next year leaving the #9 without a major sponsor for now.
