Title: Papa John's Says Bye-Bye to Flags
Post by: GADVwow on February 22, 2011, 08:07:14 PM
And I, for one, say good riddance:

Quote
... The franchised restaurant closings included 11 non-traditional units located in Six Flags theme parks in connection with our decision not to renew our sponsorship agreement. The remaining four Six Flags units will close in the first quarter of 2011....

They'll just replace it with more crappy pizza. They need some authentic boardwalk pizza. Mac's serves the masses with way better product for less cost and seems to profit just fine.

Mac's is awesome, but Mac's does not have to pay Six Flags rent...

And prior to Papa John's, Great Adventure actually had competing pizza vendors on site, and some of it was quite good....

The only thing I gave Papa John's credit for was their cheesy bread, and even that was like $7.

I agree. The cheesy bread was the deal of the park for what you got lol.

The only disappointment for me will be the loss of the $40 family deal. A large pie, jug of soda with 4 cups, bread sticks and a bowl of salad I think was really a bargain for a theme park. Yes, the pizza could have been better but at least it filled us all.

But yes, good riddance.

No, but they pay rent to lease their spots on the boardwalk.

My point is that it's not hard to make great food AND serve it in mass quantities. Even Disney does it just fine with Pizza Planet. Very tasty. If you're going to over-price something anyway, make it taste great, so people want more of it.

I'm not positive, but I think they said at Eastcoaster that it would be replaced by Famous Famiglia pizza.

Oh that's right, Sue. I don't think they mentioned anything about Papa John's at the time, but they did say Famiglia's was coming to the park.

They should get the pizzeria by my place in there. $12.00 for a pie but it's damn great!

If it's $12 by you, by the time you add in Six Flags' fees, etc., it'd probably be $48 in the park!

Maybe we will get lucky and see California Pizza Kitchen step in. I think that would really be a good replacement

That would be awesome, but you don't take out a partner to avoid the licensing fees, just to bring in another partner.

You assume Six Flags left Papa John's.  The way I hear it, Papa John's left Six Flags...Mark Shapiro was VERY close to Papa John's.  In fact, the night before Six Flags earnings call/press release, Papa Johns apparently tried to steal Flags thunder by an announcement that the former president of Six Flags, Mark Shapiro, was joining the Papa John's board.  Then, the next day, this information comes out...

I think it has something to do with Shapirio joining PJ

It is a bit of assumption on my part, based on the other licensing removals that have taken part this off season.

Six Flags paid for the licensed characters no longer used in the park.  Doubtless, Papa John's PAID Six Flags to be in the parks...

Different sides of the coin...
