Quote
Six Flags Great Adventure topped off its newest ride today – Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom – which will lift riders 41 stories into the air before bringing them straight back to earth at 90 mph.

The ride, expected to be ready for Memorial Day weekend, is the newest addition to the Jackson amusement park and has been built as an attachment to the 45-story Kingda Ka ride, a news release from park officials said.

Zumanjaro, which is twice the height of the Statue of Liberty, is the tallest drop ride in the world, the park said. Riders will pause for a moment at the top before it plunges the 41-story stretch in less than 10 seconds, the park said.

It will include three towers for gondolas that each carry eight riders, park officials have said.

This afternoon, ironworkers from Shamrock Construction placed the last piece of steel atop the tower, the park said.

Now that the structure has been topped off, workers will install the lift mechanism, the gondolas and ride controls, park officials said. Then Zumanjaro will go through a series of testing, inspections and certifications before it is opened to the public, they said.

The park is scheduled to open Saturday, April 12, about 1½ months ahead of Zumanjaro.

Enjoy it. If it's as good as lex, and I'm sure it will be, it should be pretty fantastic.

So I have to ask, do they need to time this ride with Ka's launches? It's just.. I don't know. Having a train zoom by you 10 feet away seems terrifying

I'm sure it's not as terrifying as Falcons Fury.

Well in your case anyway.

I've been wondering the same thing.  Especially with the possibility of loose change, cell phones, etc flying off of the riders when the coaster heads straight up.  It makes me wonder if we'll see shielding of some sort to prevent this from happening.  Even the greasy spray for the launch cable would probably reach the drop ride.  And then there's the cable itself lol

The cartoon map shows the line go right where the original line was traveling under Ka's lauch into the in field.
Some how I doubt that will be the case..although time does make people forget...

I'm pretty sure that it won't go directly under the launch, but instead wrap around the tower.

I also can't imagine them going under the launch. Plus, the housing for the cable is directly where the loading station will.

That makes some odd noises at the top.
Now if it went face down all the way to the bottom!

Kind of expected it.

The signs and radio ads were all changed two weeks ago, I don't know why it took them until now to confirm it was delayed.

Zumanjaro is confirmed to open LATE. It's delayed due to the bad weather this winter. They don't have an exact date yet, but Zumanjaro WILL NOT be open on Memorial Day. I believe Ka will be open and running Memorial Day.

I have a feeling Ka has to be closed until Zumanjaro is complete and passes inspection since it's attached.

Nope, but Lance was about 5 months late in reporting that the section of its track was left. He's really slipping lately...

Kingda Ka opened today at 4:30pm and was running fine until it started raining around 9:00.

Ka was open today (running as well as Ka usually does) ..That section of the park  is so different.
Lots of new landscaping that looks really good.

It is really needs to have the dead end removed so there is a direct route to Plaza del Carnaval via the El Toro underpass.

The park was unusually dead for a holiday weekend....not a line anywhere.

Does Ka feel different with the extra supports? You know, all vibraty and stuff.
Title: Re: Zumanjaro Opens Memorial Day Weekend!
Post by: Ogolo on May 25, 2014, 02:01:27 PM
I was hoping there would be some difference (that is the only reason I rode it)  but there is absolutely no difference..
That has to do with the launch track and not the tower structure.
Ka was launching it pretty fast on Saturday....no delay at all over the top.

Do we think the new rumored date of June 27th is a pipe dream as well or do we really have some sort of chance to get this open ?
Title: Re: Zumanjaro Opens Memorial Day Weekend!

Unclear. At this point I think both of Intamin's high profile drop towers this year (Zumanjaro, Falcon's Fury) are in a staring contest for which opens first.

I wouldn't say pipe dream. Its been testing for over a week now. I imagine it should be certified by the state and ready to go fairly soon.

I'm curious if you've noticed any human riders?  My gut tells me, and this is through zero insider knowledge, that they've run into problems with the state. Somewhere on here, maybe previous page of this thread lol, I mentioned concern over this. Even just last week we didn't know the rider height requirement and it still isn't posted anywhere. Between being a one of a kind ride, the fact that it's attached to another ride which has already had issues and the fact that we are in NJ, I've always wondered how this portion of the opening would go. They want to keep us safe and I'm sure will figure everything out :). It just takes more time.

Next Wednesday, July 2nd is the media day and Thursday, the 3rd is a Season Pass Holder preview day.  Zumanjaro officially opens to the public on July 4th which is the parks 40th anniversary :).

Ride was cycling tons earlier this week and maintenance is doing visible work on it whenever it was not running. In fact they were testing Kingda Ka while doing work on Zumanjaro yesterday!

I may give Thursday a try.
They decided to make the commercial shoot an employee only event on Sunday (I think they did the same thing with the GL).
And somehow I think it will be a long media day since its a record breaker.

Wonder if Zu is afraid of the rain as Sunday is looking a bit wet.

Title: Re: Zumanjaro Opens July 4th!

Gold Season Pass or most likely Season Pass since they forgot to print Gold on many.
Any park will most likely do since all park passes look the same this year.

Being 100% serious when I say that I hate the Season Passes this year. Tons of people try and show them to you like they're V.I.G. or that you need to scan them in order to ride, it's annoying to deal with on a daily basis.

Don't even get me started on Season Passes.

Maybe season passes just got too cheap this year?
I honestly think the Cedar Fair Platinum Pass is a fair deal.
Bringing in the BioMetric scanners this year could not have been an easy task. They could have foreseen some of the issues with just a little thinking ahead.  (The 10 minute early entry is a joke.)

"10 minute early entry" when Frontier Adventures still doesn't open until 11:00 am...
Title: Re: Zumanjaro Opens July 4th!
Post by: Steve on June 30, 2014, 08:14:31 PM
The Platinum Pass is one of the better deals for a chain. When I got mine this year I got my moneys worth with using it for two days at KI and 1 1/2 days at CP. It did suck the first day because it rained all day and most of the rides were closed, but the park stayed open and they still did the hour ERT on Millennium the hour after the park closed.

Trying to keep with the topic, I am happy to see they have a set opening date. I just hope it opens with little issues.

A review from some "VIP" person who rode it 25 times on Sunday says it is a good one!
Now lets hope the weather cooperates for their activities this week.

Six Flags' Zumanjaro ride delayed again, still needing state permit

I'm hoping for the park's sake that the state cooperates and inspects it soon so that they can open it up to the public this week, or early next week at the latest. I know that the park is ready to go, and from the looks of it, so is the public.

I don't know if they're ready to walk that queue though...

IMO, this is nothing more than politics...  Obviously Six Flags doesn't want to open a ride that isn't safe.
Title: Re: Zumanjaro Opens July 4th!
Post by: coastermom on July 03, 2014, 09:07:32 AM
I have to agree with Wade on this I think this is all a political thing with the state . My feelings are the state is nervous about KK and Zumanjaro running together after the accident in Ka's first year ( Nobody was hurt but this is NJ ) this is why the line no longer runs under KA's station as well . I know SF does not want to open a ride that is unsafe so why is the state so crazy on this ? Does the state of NJ not know a ride of this kind is also open at Magic Mountain ? I go in about a week to MM and was excited to compare drops but I guess I will have to ride their drop ride first since ours is still CLOSED !! :(

Politics in NJ?

It doesn't surprise me that a Drop Tower on Ka might be of concern.
I figured Six Flags would have reviewed it with the state before construction started.

Let's say Zu is operating they way you would expect for an opening day..Sporadic...
Zumanjaro is quite the ride.  For me the ride up is worse than the drop but what a drop that is!  No warning or indication of when you will drop.
You can see from all the extra guards..they are really worried about items falling off of Ka and hitting someone near Zu.
There are extra guards that come down when the drop cars are at the bottom.

Ka's capacity is definitely hurt by Zu.  Often two trains were on the track waiting to launch.
I really hope they work out a solution so both rides can run independent of each other.

The views you you can get of El Toro from this area are amazing!
[Dragon Challenge @ IOA still beats it for the worlds longest queue...it's close though.]

It was still great seeing both rides finally open for the 2014 season!

Sky Screamer still frightens me more (there is just something about that plastic seat those small chains).

Go visit the new GA History Museum in the old Season Pass building!  Such a nice surprise to see this addition to the park.

I was there at 5am Wed waited and waited state never showed up, win some lose some, ride is quiet and there is a screen that comes down when Ka is running so no falling objects hit riders that are under another screen
