RUMOR: Scream Machine Closing For Good July 1st
« on: June 21, 2010, 08:51:43 AM »
We have heard and read rumors that the park plans on closing Scream Machine for good on July 1st to make way for a new (old) attraction next year. You can read the speculation on this thread. A lot of it is from a thread over on CoasterFusion's website. Also, there are mentions of it on a Six Flags Great America website (for reasons listed below), which can be read here. (As a side note, it's interesting to see what those people think of SFGA people).

While we don't know if this is true (and hopefully it's not), I wanted to get the word out as a news article for everyone to see, especially those that have fond memories of Scream Machine.

So again, Scream Machine may be closing for good in 11 days! So if you have a chance to go to the park and ride it before then you better take it!

If this is really happening, I hope Great Adventure makes an announcement prior to Scream Machine's closing so people know to come back and ride it, similar to what Busch Gardens did with Big Bad Wolf when they closed it last year. I really hope it doesn't just.. stop operating next Friday, with no warning. Especially since it's a 20 year old coaster.

And if the park doesn't say anything and Scream Machine is still running on July 2nd, then consider these rumors incorrect. Or delayed :/

And what would Scream Machine be replaced with if these rumors are true? Chang, from Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. It's a stand-up coaster that was removed from the park when Six Flags decided to not renew the lease last year. It's been sitting at Six Flags Great America ready to go in, but if this rumor is true plans have changed.

Chang info on RCDB.

Could this also be why superman is closed?

I never rode Chang, but I call BS on SF spending that much more to move Chang from KK to Great America then all the way to Great Adventure to replace GASM. CF didn't even spend a bunch to move Demon Drop, they decided to send it to Dorney which was closer than CA. Why would SF put Chang on a tour of the GAs.

If this rumor does end up being true we might see Chang for a year or two and then it'll be either scrapped or moved to another park.

I have to agree with Wade here ! If it is true they really are MORONS !! WE need stuff for the middle height kids between 44 and 54 besides El Toro .. WE NEED FLATS and on that note I will end my rant !

I'm thankful that they actually lowered Toro's height restriction. It makes the ride more fun!

Tis probably too much to hope for that Mr. Weber be a believer in "The War On Lines" and in on site hotels...

I had always heard that Chang was coming east, and was surprised when they started asking for variances for it in Chicago.  As for Weber and the war on lines/on property hotels, he did run Paramount Parks rather well, and they were just starting to experiment with on property resorts.

I hate to see GASM go, I liked it.  I also like Chang.

On property resorts?  Do you mean Great Wolf Lodge at Kings Island, in which CBS held a small (less than 20 percent interest) that Cedar Fair did not acquire?  If not that, what?

After riding Mantis @ Cedar Point, I Don't really care to see an Stand up @ Great Adventure, It had one before and it's gone, What I think would be best if they were to rip out GASM and believe me I don't want to see it go, I'd like to see a Maverick style coaster. Maverick is just awesome and would be a great addition to the park.

I Vote for GASM

Chang some place else

they would spend how much to move it here ?
the cost to move it here could bring in some much needed Flats
Not everyone rides coasters ( I love them but my Tina doesn't)   :'(
take that money and build a small to midsize Woodie   :D

YES I AGREE with the Maverick  BUT to costly

I have been on Mantis, and I must say it is the WORST stand up I have ever been on. I have also been on Chang before, and I have to say I was impressed with the smooth layout I experienced and it has a pretty good layout.

Oh, so Chang isn't really comparable to Mantis? Good, because Mantis is my only experience with a stand-up coaster and I hated it.

It isn't that Chang isn't a good ride... and it isn't that I'm *I'M A BAD PERSON!*ed about GASM going.  We all knew it was a matter of time.  The issue I have here is that it makes ZERO sense to put it at Great Adventure.  I bet the general public will think they even brought back Shockwave!  Seriously though, we needed a massive water attraction of some sort or a flat package or even a decent but more mild woodie that the tween crowd can ride.  Bumping up the 54 roster while taking away one in the 40's is just crazy.  Although I guess I shouldn't speak as though this is already a done deal.

July 1st just got bigger for me. Not only will we all have to see if GASM is closed that day, but free agency starts for the NHL that day :P

NHL free agency is dwarfed this year by the Lebron sweepstakes. This is coming from a Canadian.
