More Green Lantern Construction Photos - It's Vertical!
« on: January 11, 2011, 03:37:56 PM »
The park has posted more Green Lantern construction photos on their Facebook today!

Looking at this photo it seems like the coaster has gone vertical!

Also, some include the removal of the rest of the Sream Machine queue line :(

Here is the whole album

Well, in the photo it has "Parallax" tagged, so I guess they are trying to do something with the Green Lantern villain.

I love the Facebook comments, though.

"The loop is going to be a different color?"

"No they are hinting that the track will remain that color to represent the villain of the green lantern Parallax."

"Budget cuts didn't allow for enough green paint to be purchased?"

Are only the loops gonna be painted yellow? and are they gonna do effects like on bizarro with flamethrowers and billboards and that sort of stuff?

Actually, this is a really good way to save money, not a waste.  Bring in a huge coaster for a park in the largest populated area in the country from a park the company no longer has.  It's kind of brilliant.

And the GP will eat it up.

Edwardo is right, it's actually a very good move in terms of a used coaster but I would've liked a little GG or GCI woodie there more. The move is also a plus because it's one of, if not the best, stand-ups in the world.

I don't think so. It is way too similar to Bizzaro/Medusa. What other park has a B&M floorless and standup?

Six Flags Magic Mountain (Scream and Riddler's Revenge)

Kings Dominion (Dominator and Shockwave)

The last is a TOGO, but the general public couldn't care less who made a coaster.  And the standup coaster and floorless coaster are seen as giving very different ride experiences...by the general public.  And it is the general public that pays the freight, by far...not a few jaded coaster enthusiasts who may be understandably upset they are getting what they see as a used coaster.  Remember, it could be far worse...the park could have closed, or been sold to a company that removed even more rides and sold them.

Yes, it could also be better, but it's early...I also don't like the trend of removing the shows and entertainment that Shapiro and Snyder believed contributed to the overall park atmosphere, though.  Still, remember it was that crowd that was starting to take out live entertainment and replace it with DVD's of old Dick Clark Productions shows...

Shoe, that's like saying how many parks have a suspended and an inverted (or in La Rhonde's case, 2 inverteds).  Great Adventure needs a new ride, the company is trying to keep costs down, they'd have been stupid to give up such a large coaster that they already owned, and of all of the Six Flags parks, the only one that really needed a coaster that had this type of capacity, took up this much land, and could benefit from it is Great Adventure.

SFA possibly could have used this, but really they needed to put this in at a higher attended park because it's a large, banner attraction.

And as for similiar coasters, they just took out the coaster that was similiar to Bizzaro ;).

Park guests wouldn't care if they had 10 B&M floorless coasters. They would want to try each one. Most visitors may ride each ride one time then go home, then rinse and repeat.

Most guests don't care if the ride is old or from another place. If it is new to them then they will happily ablige to try it. Take bizarro for example; in 2008 it opened at noon so they could run the ride in peak attendance, and the next year it had lines that competed with Kingda Ka in terms of time. A paint job and cosmetic changes does do a difference.

Yeah, I went the fist year that Medusa was Bizarro (my first visit) and there were kids that swore it was a brand new coaster.

lol ok stop bashing me! no im just kidding though. I forgot about SFMM having riddler's revenge and Scream, but other than that, there is no other park. Togo's are a lot different so they are not comparable, plus dominator is a very different layout. And yes, La Ronde is dumb for having two inverts. To me inverts and suspended are not comparable so I wasn't considering that. I just don't want a standup coaster at Great Adventure. Get a drop tower and some flat rides instead!

Exactly.  Paramount Parks (well, except for some odd reason, Carowinds) Seemed to get decent flat rides under Webber.

I hope we get some sort of a flat ride package. This year would've transitioned much better if they didn't drop the 5D simulator in the early fall.
