PortAventura New for 2012- Shambhala
« on: February 16, 2012, 06:57:34 PM »
Since there is no topic for this yet I figured I would start one. As everyone knows PortAventura is building a massive B&M Mega coaster for 2012. Other than the fact that Leviathan is a B&M Giga coaster, Shambhala is looking way more unique and out of character for B&M.

The first camel back looks insanely steep and massive.

Holy crap this looks awesome!

you're totally forgetting the fact that there's a tunnel at the tail end of the ride.

That twisty thingy looks neato!

I didn't know about this ride until the picture that was posted a little while back. MUCH More interesting than Leviathan.

That twisty thingy was used by Vekoma for BattleStar. A little different flavor and physics to it but it's still pretty much the same. Now when the hell are they gonna make a Cobra Roll that does that?

It just looks like a speed reducing version of a hammerhead turn to me. Kinda cool looking though. I guess if the turnaround doesn't get ya the magnetic trims will anyway.

It kind of reminds me a bit of the cheetah hunt turnaround. After looking at it a little longer it looks like you could get some nice tugging action coming back down this structure.

Funny thing about this thread. I knew that this coaster was going to be built and that it was 250+ feet. All of a sudden there was pics on screamscape but I guess it was just footers or clearing or something like that. But I thought it was Draga khan or whatever its called and it was a 250' bm inverted coaster with a bunch of inversions. Just realized the other day it will be a hyper. Too bad in a way.

This coaster looks MASSIVE for being 250 feet. The way it visually imposes its will all over and around Dragon Kahn is impressive.

B&M, Please bring some interesting designs back here as well. Leviathan is so boring compared to this. This one looks great.

Not to be a homer but other than a slightly more twisted turn around there is nothing different about this B@M so far.

I watched a POV Zrendering. It has a lame ending similar to Behemoth. :(

Somehow I feel like i'm being cheap shotted here a bit. ;)

At least my 2nd favourite steel coaster will be operating in 2012, and not being replaced by a launch coaster with the same layout. Owww

No cheap shot. You know Behemoth's ending is weak sauce. ;)

What launch coaster are you talking about?

Can't be worse than Leviathons which definitely at some point in the design process had more to it. The brake run was definitely a mid course break earlier in the design process with something after it. Its even more flat like a mcbr. They could have slowed the train down a lot and have some smaller bunny hills with decent air in an area with some turns separating them and then ended it without increasing the track length drastically. Nitro did a great job making that little section of track between the mcbr and final brakes last a good amount of time.

Nah, Leviathon is like 35 seconds long from the first drop and nitro's trims even on full blast which they never are on barely take off any speed compared to what the magnetic trims on the middle of the hills can do.
