PTR: Six Flags over Georgia
« on: July 31, 2012, 09:38:12 PM »
It was time for an impromptu trip to my favorite Six Flags park, thankfully only 4 hours away.

Traffic by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

Traffic on the way out of Charlotte was not fun.

Yay!  I'm here!

Goliath just dominates the front of the park.  It's a fun ride, but I've actually switched to Diamondback as my favorite B&M Speed/Hyper coaster.

Having said that, this was the reason I was here.  Didn't get to come down to get my credit last year, but I wasn't missing out this year.

While it wasn't the best ride evar, I was quite impressed.  Love the restraints, smooth ride, and a lot of fun.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

Its the kind of ride that SFoG needed.  And its quite popular.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

I'm not a fan of vertical lifts, but at least it isn't a huge lift.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

Next up was Mind Bender.  This is still a great ride after many years.  It's no Shockwave, but, then Texas is a lot further away.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

Goliath is great.  Its very consistent.  I enjoy it every time.  Diamondback was better, but I really like having 2 decent B&M hyper coasters not too awful far away.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

The first drop is excellent.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

I always hated Georgia Cyclone.  Rough and not fun.  But with just a little topper track from Rocky Mountain Coasters, it's actually quite fun now.  I wanted to marathon it at the end of the nite, but it rained for the last hour of operations.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

Watched the new show at Crystal Pistol.  It could use some work, but it had potential.  Needs a bigger theater.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

Kids, smoking and tanning is bad for you.  This picture does no justice.  And of course, you didn't see her crispy legs.  Ugh.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

Monster Picnic!  Monster Mansion is great fun.  Just avoid the swamp.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

When the sign says the line is 30 minutes and it looks short, it's all lies.  It was more like a 90 minute wait.  Why can't they figure out how to make the dual station work?!?!

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

One of the better rapids rids I've been on.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

One of the best themed Six Flags parks.

Six Flags Over Georgia 2012 by Edward Beavers, on Flickr

The line was too long, but this is a great kids coaster.

So much better this time.

And that's that.  You can see all of my pix Here.

Diamondback better? Are you high?

Yeah, that sucks about Chiller...I hate to see it like that. Hey, so we should get a group picture or something ok. I'll call you later!

Cause it really is one of the best in the world. Its definitely getting better with age too. It goes so much faster through the end than it used to.

El toro is not the best thing ever. Texas Giant is. And DB is better than Goliath.

My rankings change all the time. Diamondback was actually wicked awesome this year. It sucked last time I was there.   Hopefully Behemoth will rock my world this time. Oh wait it still has a bad ending...  ;)

The locals have learned the bad ending is the percect time to come up with the best on ride photo possibilities.

My rankings change all the time too. Everytime I ride behemoth I think its better than Leviathan, and vice versa. I wish I could ride all of them as often as I do those two.

Timbers poops all over Toro. It's balls to wall floater airtime on every single hill (about 15 hills) from beginning to end with an intense lateral-packed helix at the end.

^ In theory I could hit up the montreal beamer this October, but I think i'm gonna pass. Bigger fish to fry.

Who else thinks shockwave is better than  mindbender? Isn't there one more in the class of those two around utah or colorado or something like that? or is it a few steps down?

But the kids demand EJECTOR AIR!!! OMGZ!!!!

I'm not really sure honestly, but you could be right.

And as for Mindbender vs. Shockwave... I could see how Mindbender LOOKS better, but Shockwave has the far superior ride.

The thing about Shock Wave and Mind Bender is they are full of drops with airtime. The Mind Bender in Edmonton is known for its sick positive G-forces.

As for the Shock Wave vs. Mind Bender Over Georgia, Shocker has stronger airtime than Bender, but Bender has the really cool twisty terrain-filled layout in woodsy setting. Bender still has lots of drops and airtime, but Shocker has ejector air like the kids love.

I honestly tend to prefer Mind Bender, but it's basically a draw for me. I wish somehow the two rides could be combined into one super coaster.

Lagoon in Utah has a couple of Schwarzes too, but nothing like Bender and Shocker. The third US installation that was once in the same class is Revolution at Magic Mountain. It has the layout to beat the other two, but now it's trimmed to death and has horrible over the shoulder restraints. A couple of my friends grew up riding that thing in its prime and say it was sick. My one friend says if he ever won the lottery he'd rent out Revolution and borrow a lapbar train from Montezooma's Revenge and invite all of his coaster friends over for ERT. :)

I'll ride Revolution for the credit, not going to enjoy the ride though. Aren't they doing a revive the revolution campaign in order to get SFMM to refurb Revolution so it doesn't suck?

That's been going on since about 1994.

Revolution is still fun, just not the wicked awesome fun it used to be.    I still prefer it to most of the coasters there.

Never say you won't enjoy a ride until you ride it. Revolutions biggest issue is the OTSRs. It's still a good ride that's rough around the edges.

Scream Machine was absolutely smoother when compared to revolution the past few times I rode it. The jarring transitions would literally snap your neck, jaw and the side of your head into the hard as concrete harness. And the harness is designed so that you can't even get in a defensive riding position like the arrow loopers. I can tell the awesomeness it once had is there. I love the terrain to.

Yet somehow, I've still subjected myself I riding it quite a few times lol. Throw the same new trains super dooper looper just got and it would be 50 times better.

I liked the old trains better, but the new ones don't suck.

Somehow I'm able to avoid the violent bashing Wade described.  My head gets hit more on a lot of B&Ms than on Revy.

Matt, I've always wondered why and how that happens. The only thing I figure is it has to do with body differences and your height. I think I happen to line up at just the wrong place.

I know people that have zero issues with sky rush restraints and yet they were pretty bad for me.

With that said, I guess it just shows how hard it is to design something for everyone. Although in this case they had it right the first time!
