Six Flags thinking of buying SeaWorld Parks?

(1/2) > >>

jglonek:
According to Screamscape and Reuters (story here) Six Flags is interested in buying SeaWorld Parks, as is Apollo Global Management (Great Wolf Lodge, etc). SeaWorld is also still looking at doing an IPO.

What do you think of Six Flags buying the SeaWorld Parks? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me! Why does BlackStone want to get rid of the parks? I thought they have been profitable?

B-mac:
Six Flags has been interested in the Williamsburg and Florida markets for ages now, and buying up SWP&E would give them direct link into both markets. However it will give them overlap in Florida (SWO and BGT), Texas, and California which they would either sell or liquidate one park to keep the other. I really don't think Six Flags would do it though, since if it does happen they'll be larger than their 2002 self (when they owned a few int'l parks) and that obviously didn't work out well and they sold a lot of those parks a few years later.

rjholla2003:
I simply don't like it. I don't know if Six Flags can handle parks like those at this point in time. I would love to see them focus on getting their current portfolio up to that level first.

ChuckR:
Six Flags doesn't have time for that.

Steve:
As long as this remains a rumor I am fine with it.
