Mobile Forum Access Made Easy!
« on: May 30, 2006, 12:08:38 PM »
For those of you that do use the wap access on your phones or other mobile devices, gadvupdates.com now as an easier address for you to use!

http://gadvupdates.com/wap
http://gadvupdates.com/wap2

The difference between wap and wap2 is that wap is lighter and is read only, while wap2 looks a bit more stilyish, allows posting, and private messaging.  Thank you to everyone who has beta tested the wap access and found all of the bugs.

Sorry about the bump but how do you get wap on your phone because I don't have it?

That's something you would have to have as part of your wireless phone carrier's plan (provided you have a WAP enabled phone).  I know Cingular has a small plan that only costs $10 a month for WAP access, but my father quickly turned that off (and I was paying for it!) when I ran up $30 in overages by simply checking the forums during my lunch break.  The one I would have needed to avoid that was in the neighborhood of $15 a month.  I'd tell you what the usage for those plans were, but I honestly don't remember anymore.

I use it with my Pocket PC 8125 phone
I think the plan is named something different now but it's unlimited WEB

In the next month I will be upgrading to the Cingular 8525 (below) witch will have 3G DSL speeds. Cingular is rolling out 3G Now in and around Philly Finally.

what phone do you have ?

THe Cingular 3125 is a Windows smartphone and looks just like a RAZOR

Now that I have a Ipaq with Cingular 3G, I'm finally learning how to use the WAP2 portal here on updates.  One quick "bug" or minor type of issue I noticed is that if you click the "top level" link at the bottom of the thread you are in, it takes you to the actual home page of the site.  What makes this bad is that its the full graphical version, not the WAP portal.

So I'm just letting people know we are aware and working on it :)

I am thinking about getting a sidekick but I have heard mixed reviews and its kind of big. Plus T-Mobile is charing an arm and a leg for the web plans. :(

Cingular kicks butt with the Rollover
I have about 4000 rollover minutes
ALso I did get the Cingular 8525 3g shown above. (selling my 8125 if anyone interested)

Sidekick Na  get a Windows Mobile phone
A pocket PC kicks butt with so many free apps and utilities.
its just a little bulky so I have a small backup phone I can just slide my SIM card into.(something you can't do with Verizon and Sprint)

Also with Cingular don't get the unlimited DATA plan($59-$69)  get the  $19 unlimited smartphone plan and you can still use it with a pocket pc phone but for much less.
I can access any "real" website with my phone and also Google maps for mobile is awesome.
Wade try this site as your home page  www.6abctogo.com they have everything on it Stormtracker radar etc. I was using Yahoo mobile but this has better radar and other cities.
also the best thing about it if you travel is if your in another City/State you can click change city and you will have all the info for that area. I was in Orlando in Jan. and I just typed in the city and had all the local news ,weather/radar/lottery/sports/movies/flighttracker (great for flight info) etc. also great when at a park to see the storms coming.
give it a try

I have many free apps if needed  a few off hand
Wififofum a wifi hotspot finder like netstumbler very cool and free http://tinyurl.com/3dfgdo
