Plans for a 500-room hotel to be built on the grounds of Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson recently received approval from the township Planning Board for changes to its original site plan.

"We're here tonight because we're requesting (the board) consider a shift in the footprint," project attorney Ray Shea said at the Planning Board's Nov. 21 meeting.

Construction on the hotel, which was scheduled to begin in the fall after the project received the board's approval in August, had not begun as of press time.

Shea said the change in the plans, which will increase the distance between the hotel and the Kingda Ka roller coaster from 60 to 90 feet, will result in a "minimal impact."

The move also allows the hotel's parking lot to be turned 45 degrees, which will line it up with the park's main lot.

"When do we say enough is enough in reducing spaces?" asked Committeeman Sean Giblin, who sits on the Planning Board, regarding the safety of park visitors.

"At some point . . . we have to come up with more parking," he said, adding a second exit also should be considered.

Shea said the board is scheduled to hear plans for the expansion of Six Flags Great Adventure's parking lot next month.

Before the Planning Board approved the amended site plan, Mary Ann Vinciguerra, who lives on Route 537 in Jackson near the park, requested they wait until the parking-lot-expansion plan had been heard.

Vinciguerra, who said she has attended meetings regarding the theme park since 1973, was on vacation when the hotel was approved.

"I was a little disturbed to find that the 500-room hotel had been passed in one night," she said. "I was upset about that."
