QUEASY RIDERS
'Filthy' Alton Towers restaurants slammed
By Bill Daniels

MOST of the restaurants at top theme park Alton Towers were filthy, a damning report revealed yesterday.

Fifteen of the 19 outlets failed to come up to scratch during an inspection by food hygiene experts at the theme park.

Just four were found to be up to standard.

Big name chain restaurants including KFC and McDonald's have now been ordered to clean up.

The KFC Katanga take-away was the worst - where hygiene was so bad it did not meet legal requirements.

It has since closed and is due to re-open in the Spring.

The report said of McDonald's: "A thorough deep clean and disinfection is required." John Tildesley, of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, said: "The majority of these faults can be readily addressed and we will ensure they are."

Even Alton's own staff restaurant was said to be unhygienic.

Other faults were dirty sweet scoops, damaged kitchen worktops and a lack of hot water.

An Alton Towers spokesman said the outlets run by the park itself needed only a few minor improvements.

He added: "We are disappointed by one of the independent franchise units and will make sure they comply with requirements."

Its the best park in the UK.

Best collection of coasters, theming and location.

This is really bad for them, they gotta get this sorted. Now.

If I recall, this happened to Disney World just a few years ago.  No company is imune to such issues and as SB said, they need to sort this out NOW and get back on track.  Alton Towers is a world class theme park and like Disney, this is simply unacceptable.
