Weird NJ Style Places
« on: November 25, 2007, 01:59:26 AM »
Ever since I got my new Navigon GPS, George and I have been trying to put it through its paces. Tonight we decided to do a little touring so we checked out Weird NJ and found a nice abandoned mental institution in Skillman. We took a ride up and sure enough it was there and very creepy might I add. Over winter break, we want to check out more of these spots. Do any of you guys have suggestions and specifics to where we should go? It can pretty much be anywhere in NJ and within an hour or two from Trenton to PA.

I'm going to give you some very good advice here, DON'T GO INTO SKILLMAN AT ALL! Security WILL bust your @$$ and you will spend some time in jail. Also:

2. don't go into the ruins of Lamberton HS, they are very unsafe and could collapse at any time, also the locals will call the cops on you.

3. Do go to the Paulinskil Viaduct up in warren county. It's a very large train bridge that's been abandoned for decades. It also has tunnels running inside the support structure that are fun to explore.

There is alot more but i'm too lazy to post it right now.

Ahh yeah I read about the police at Skillman after we went there. I guess we got really lucky because no one came up to us or anything. We never got out of the car when we went. We pretty much just did a drive through tour. We are going to Gravity Hill in Titusville this weekend which should be cool.

Just pick it up at Barnes and Nobles for $4.00

For another good site go to Stu of Doom.com

I  also geocache (geocaching.com)  and have been to tons of WNJ locations.

So we took another trip last night. This time we went out to Gravity Hill in Titusville. I have to say, it was kind of a let down but the fun its on is so much fun to drive. :) If any of you want to try it out, take Route 29 north from Trenton to Pleasant Valley Road, which is right after a quarry on your right hand side. Drive on Pleasant Valley for a mile or so until you come across two roads name Barry Rd and Pleasant Valley - Harbourtown Rd. Make a U Turn so you are headed back in the same direction you just came and creep up next to the field about halfway between the two roads. We found the best spot was about 6 feet before you pass the tree on the right. Stop the car, put the car in neutral, and take your foot off the brake. If you don't hit the right spot at first, just inch to another spot and you will find it eventually. It is a neat little hill. Apparently you are suppose to do it without the lights on but we figured for our safety and the inability for us to turn the lights off, they stayed on.

Our next adventure is to find the ones in Jackson. We haven't done our homework to specifically where on the roads we must stop but if any of you have info, please post it. :)

I remember when I was younger driving down near Batsto area and just riding through the trails.
A few times we just slept in the car in the middle of the woods.
And waited for anything (The Jersey Devil) or what ever  :D
THe only thing I heard was the Maguire Air force bass Jets flying overhead in the early am.

I also have a Canoe I take down, there just fun to venture out
Yo
