Great Adventure Attendence levels of the past
« on: March 12, 2008, 10:32:15 AM »
Since I know a few on this board recall the figures of the past, I was curious if my brain was working correctly.  Didn't Great Adventure achieve attendence figures of over 3 million in the mid to late 90's or around the year 2000?

This quote from the article here - http://washington.bizjournals.com/washington/stories/2008/03/10/daily11.html?ana=yfcpc is why I'm asking.

Quote
Six Flags, which sold eight theme parks to help pay down debt last year, had 2.8 million visitors at its parks during the quarter, up 3.7 percent. Park goers also increased their spending by 3.5 percent.

Unless the 4th quarter does not include Fright Fest, this number seems rather low to me when you consider Great Adventure could pull higher numbers as a seasonal park alone than all of the parks combined in a quarter.  Am I missing something here?

To the best of my knowledge, Six Flags never releases individual park attendance figures.

I don't think they ever have and they ever will  publicly.

They don't.  That is why I'm asking :D  Numbers from previous seasons are fairly well known from years gone by through various methods.

Yeah, Dan and Rob and Bubba switch off by counting on hand how many people come through the Turnstiles

Actually, I thought they counted the number of shoes that pass through the exit each day, divide by two, and subtract the number of shoes that enter the re-entry gate, also divided by two...with minor adjustments for those in strollers or other conveyances or who have a number of feet less than two...

I was more referencing reports such as this one that just came out - http://www.parkworld-online.com/news/fullstory.php/aid/762/Disney_does_it_again!.html

Open the PDF file in the article.  Not a single Six Flags park is in the top 25 in the world.  And Great Adventure BARELY made it into the top 20 of North America.  These were the reports I was hoping others could recall from the past ;)

For those that don't want to bother opening the PDF, Gadv had reported attendance of 2,720,000 for 2007 which is down .5% from 2006.

So yes, my presumption at the top was correct.  In the 4th quarter, the entire chain only pulled in 2.8 million peeps which is barely more than our one single park pulled in for the season.  And its a seasonal park.

I remember Great Adventure being in the top 10 just a few years ago.  Dan?  Somebody?  Help me out here! lol  Am I losing it?

Go back and look at the number of Disney parks in that top 20....it's always been thus.  I don't ever remember Great Adventure being in the top 10....and in fact, have often thought that the attendance figures for Great Adventure, which are estimates, are understated, along with Six Flags Great America.

I've been to Cedar Point and to Kings Island many, many times....as I have to Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Great Adventure.  The latter parks seem far busier to me that the former two....and always have.

I just finished watching the surveillance tapes from this pass season and ... I came up with 3,521,104.  That's 12k more than Morey's pier and 8K more than SFMM.

3.5 mill was the estimate for 2001, 3.3 for 2000 and 2002 and two numbers came out for 2003...first estimated as 3.1 and later changed to 2.9.
