OK they will have the Biggest
- malls in the world
Tallest Building
Biggest themepark
Will they build the biggest coaster ?
The Middle East has committed $1 trillion to build and operate new leisure developments, according to new study. Dubai alone will spunk $381.4 billion, Saudi Arabia $184.4bn and Abu Dhabi $131.3bn in a race to create viable tourism facilities.
Much of the spending will be on high-profile entertainment brands.
Dubai has Universal Studios and a Marvel theme park; Abu Dhabi has its
Louvre and Ferrari World. Last week
Emaar signed with Sega to develop in-mall entertainment zones in its 100-plus malls planned for MENA and India. The strategy makes sense. The UAE needs to pull in international visitors; internationally-recognized brand names will be a key marketing tool. There will also be space for home grown attractions ? Dubai Shopping Festival plans a theme park built around its Modhesh character.
But there are still theme park brands up for the grabs. The most famous of which,
Disney, has to commit to a Middle East location, despite rumors it plans to open in Qatar. It has parks in Paris, Tokyo and Hong Hong, and a Middle East location would, in theory, cater to a MENA and India demographic.
Another US theme park brand,
Six Flags, the largest operator in the US, has 21 parks and last year welcomed 30 million guests. Each of its parks has a different theme.
