Six Flags announces plans for Qatar amusement park (and Korea, China and India too) I spoke today to Six Flags President and Chief Executive Mark Shapiro who was in Qatar where he announced plans for a $300-million resort including an amusement/water park, luxury hotel and spa.Located along the Persian Gulf, the indoor-outdoor 11-acre Six Flags property ? much smaller than most amusement parks ? will feature thrill rides, roller coasters, water slides, family entertainment and plenty of air conditioning. An hour?s plane-ride away in Dubai, Six Flags already has a much-larger amusement park project in the works. The 60-acre Six Flags Dubailand will feature 30 to 40 rides, including three to four major coasters. While no rides have been confirmed, Shapiro did say Dubai would be getting major coasters on the order of Kingda Ka, El Toro, Nitro and X2.Six Flags also expects to announce expansions in Korea, China and India soon, Shapiro said.
So wait a minute, this is basically Roller Coaster Tycoon Dubai Edition for Shapiro?
Looks like we might have to plan a group trip to Dubai. What time to we have to start the drive Bubba!
Over the weekend we learned that an plans for Intamin to build a bigger/faster version of Kingda Ka for Dubai are off the table. That doesn?t mean that something big isn?t still in the works, it just wont be another Kinda Ka / Top Thrill Dragster style coaster.
