Six Flags and The Home Depot Announce Supply, Marketing and Sponsorship Alliance

Last Update: 9:02 AM ET May 8, 2006  http://urlci.com/b1719e

NEW YORK, May 8, 2006

The Home Depot, Inc.
announced today an agreement in principle under which The Home Depot will become a Six Flags Corporate Alliance partner. The Home Depot and its Home Depot Supply(SM) Division will serve as the exclusive supplier of commercial improvement, building supply, construction, repair and maintenance products to all Six Flags parks across North America. The alliance will also provide for extensive co-marketing opportunities in The Home Depot retail stores and Six Flags theme parks.
Under the agreement, The Home Depot and Home Depot Supply will provide Six Flags with all materials to construct and maintain its parks, giving Six Flags one source for its material needs. With its broad portfolio of wholesale distribution platforms, Home Depot Supply has the capability to provide Six Flags with a wide range of products and services, to address everything from core infrastructure needs to routine daily maintenance.
Six Flags tickets will be sold at all The Home Depot stores located within a 100-mile radius of a Six Flags-branded U.S. theme park, expanding the parks' accessibility through an increased number of consumer touch points. Six Flags will also receive a sponsorship fee and a range of promotions, including NASCAR show car appearances and Kids Workshop clinics at select parks. The Home Depot will also hold a corporate outing at each Six Flags-branded park.
The Home Depot will receive significant signage and branding in Six Flags parks, and the companies will collaborate to showcase innovative The Home Depot products, including VIVA!(R) SunPatiens(R), a revolutionary, new, inter-specific flower that thrives in full sun and high heat conditions; and long-lasting, low-maintenance Veranda composite decking that offers the beauty of wood and will not shrink, rot, decay, check, splinter or suffer termite damage. Six Flags will look for opportunities to leverage The Home Depot expertise in areas such as bathroom remodeling and outdoor living to create a more family-friendly environment in every park.
Extending Six Flags' commitment to children and families beyond the park borders and into the community, Six Flags and The Home Depot will jointly construct several KaBOOM! playgrounds for kids in cities near Six Flags parks. The Home Depot is a founding sponsor of KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit group whose mission is to build a safe and healthy playground within walking distance of every child in America, and together they have built over 400 playgrounds. In July 2005, The Home Depot announced a three-year, $25 million commitment to build 1,000 playspaces in 1,000 days.
"Adding The Home Depot to our Corporate Alliance roster is pivotal. Six Flags will benefit from this relationship on a number of levels, from sponsorship to preferential pricing for our materials business, to the extensive marketing we'll receive alongside one of the country's most respected brands and the grassroots community service aspect that is so crucial to rebuilding the family connection to Six Flags," said Mark Shapiro, Six Flags president and CEO. Shapiro added, "I'm thrilled that we'll be able to market our ticket programs to the millions of people who shop in The Home Depot stores every year. Increasing the number of touch points for reaching our customers is essential to our strategy."
"This relationship represents a powerful example of the unparalleled benefits that The Home Depot can bring to its customers," said Bob Nardelli, chairman, president & CEO, The Home Depot. "Not only can we provide a strong depth and breadth of construction and maintenance materials and professional tools to build, maintain, and improve Six Flags theme parks through The Home Depot and our Home Depot Supply Division, we also offer an opportunity to extend our partner's brand in our retail environment as well as through sponsorship assets like NASCAR. When you combine all of this with our joint commitment to community relations, it is hard to imagine a more compelling total offering in the marketplace today."

Well I didn't see this coming.  Hopefully with the beneficial pricing on materials they can afford to build a better sign for Home Depot than the Papa John's banners.  On the subject, where will the Home Depot signs go?  Will they pick a ride or will they be out in the open?  Hopefully this will spruce up the park though with wood work and flowers, but how much can they really do midseason in regards to wood work?
Still alive, contrary to popular belief.
