Alright, so I am definitely going to Cali this March for Solace. I am hitting DCA, DL, SFMM and KBF.
This August I want to go on a big trip somewhere else. I have a few options but I don't know which one to choose from. Here are the possiblities...
-Worlds of Fun, Six Flags St. Louis, Silver Dollar City and Celebration City, Magic Springs, Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags Fiesta Texas
-Dells(Mt. Olympus, Timber Falls Adventure Park), Six Flags Great America, Indiana Beach, Holiday World, Beech Bend, Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom
-Paramount Carowinds, Myrtle Beach Area, Six Flags Over Georgia, Lake Winnie, Dollywood, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Paramount Kings Dominion
-Great Escape, La Ronde, Six Flags Darien Lake, Paramount Canada Wonderland, Canobie Lake, Lake Compounce, Six Flags New England
Which one would you choose?
-
do the dells trip. I would kil to get out there.
-
I also agree with Nick. You get to hit up some kickin' woodies out there, probably most of the top 10 in the country.
-
No brainier, DELLS. Save the Texas, Tennessee trip for Sept /October when it's still warm out west compared to here. Dollywood in December was also one of my favorite trips last year.
2006, Year of the wooden coaster. That's basically what I've planed my trips on around this season.
Trip 1 : Sept/ October
Trip 2 : opening day
Trip 3 : Sept/October
Trip 4 : June July
Is when I would do those trips
-
Dollywood in december is nice, except for none of the outside roller coasters are opened! Ive been to that twice.
-
40 degrees or higher and they open the coasters. 10 morning laps on Thunderhead was great.
-
okay so I guess i went on extra cold days. I will be in Tennessee for Presidents Day weekend, strictly for a hike though. Im pretty sure dollywood isnt open then anyways.
-
I told you the Dells!!!
-
100% gotta say the Dells.
-
I'm with everyone else, hit the Dells, HW, and Beech Bend. You won't be disappointed. Don't forget Little-A-Merric-A, they are supposed to have the Meteor ready by then, with luck.
-
Do the Dells, and then everything and anything you can hit between here and there. You could hit some major awesome coasters on that trip.. And the best part is, most of them would be wood 8)
-
Yes, I would be getting alot of wood coaster credits. I am going to try to hit SFOG and Dollywood the weekend of the Ace Spring Fling. I wanan ride Goliath and Thunderhead.
-
Dells!!!!
I am starting to save now to go with you guys!
-

Ok, so if we take the drive out to Wisconsin on a Thursday night (over night) into Friday.. do The Dells on Friday night and all day Saturday, SFGAm Sunday and Monday, Indiana Beach Tuesday night, PKI Wednesday (most of the day, we won't need a full day) Beech Bend Thursday morning, Holiday World Thursday night, and SFKK Friday morning... drive home Friday night into Saturday morning. Sounds like a good trip, I did the same one last year  (Last year I did SFStL and didn't do Beech Bend)
I really can't wait to ride Hades and Avalanche again.. and try out The Voyage and The Kentuckey Rumbler. Should be a blast, I wish it was July right now so I'd only be a month away... I guess I'll live since I'm going to Cali in about 60 days 8)
Rob
-
August is entirely too far away.
-
I'm wishing I was 20 again
Oh well, Have fun guys!
-
Sounds like a awesome trip
All the wooden coasters and the New Voyage and Rumbler
-
Alright guys what do you think? Cedar Point or Kennywood?
-
Kennywood since you've been to CP and they have nothing new except a swing. Plus it's a shorter drive to KW.
-
Im going with CP, its on the way and riding MF and TTD are always worth the stop. Plus ive never ridden MaxaIr, and the swings will be there.
-
I visited CP last year for the first time. Me and my friend stayed at Breakers and MaxAir was one of the hotel early access rides. We rode it three times in a row before the park opened and it is an amazing ride. I hope that everyone gets a chance to ride it or something like it. What a thrill and such great height.
-
I'm going to go with Bubba on this one. I'd go with KW if you have to decide on one or the other. Personally, I'd do both :D
If you have never been to KW, do that.
-
Well you see the thing is, this is just gonna be a break between the lonnggg drive between here and Wisconsin Dells. So, you got to think drive 9 hours and stop at CP for the day then drive the other 8 hours to Dells?? Or, drive to Kennywood(which takes 6 hours to get to) then take the 11 hour drive to Dells area. The only reason why I say CP is cause its splits up the long drive and MF is a good reason too.
-
Ok, that makes more sense for travel. But if you have never been to Kennywood I would stop there for more credits.
-
Well lets see, let's wiegh out the pro's and con's...
Cedar Point
Pro's
- TTD
- Millennium Force
- Wicked Twister
- SkyHawk
- Max Air
- Better Operations
- More than 1 train on all coasters no matter what the crowds are like.
-Splits up the drive a little more down the middle
Con's
- We've all been there before and don't really need any new credits and will be riding Delerium at PKI later in the week.
- No Phantom's Revenge or Jack Rabbit.
- That's all I can think of.
Kennywood
Pro's
- Phatnom's Revenge (easily one of the top 5 steel's in the country)
- Jack Rabbit's Double Down
- The Exterminator
- Very relaxing park, excellent atmosphere.
- Free parking
- Less expensive than CP
Con's
- One train on MOST coasters, regardless the crowd size.
- Driving through mountain-like roads... very frustrating with lots of traffic stops. (one of the main reasons I havent gone here since 2003)
- Will make for a much longer drive to the Dells on Thursday night into Friday, taking away a few hours of our Hades ride time (there's my main reason for chosing CP)
- I can take an over night trip earlier in the summer to hit this park, or go during their Halloween event in October.
So yeah, I'm chosing CP, I really enjoyed TTD and Wicked Twister enough to not need KW. I'm also not a big fan of looooooooooooong drives, especially when I do a good portion of the drive.I'd much rather get to The Dells as early as possible on Friday morning.
Rob, who cannot wait, even though its over 5 months away

This place is in Dells and this is another reason I am not goign there. SCAD tower and bunjee jumping, my kind of stuff!!
-
I pretty much need to go to that place. But im sure you have to be 18 and sign your name in blood on about 15 release forms.
Maybe after may..
-
Half the price for each ride on each of those attractions goes to the paper needed for all the waviers!
Each of those looks awsome, except for the skycoaster, which looks a little small. I would love just to free fall 100 feet into a net!
-
Do NOT forget to go by and ride Avalanche. At least one of us thinks it is by far the best wood coaster in Wisconsin!
And, if you haven't been there, Geauga Lake IS worth the trip. If you have a Cedar Fair pass from any park EXCEPT Cedar Point, the pass will also get you in at Geauga Lake.
-
Yeah, we will be going on Avalanche.
And no, were not going to Geauga Lake. I have been there before and would rather go to CP.
-
I'm wishing I was 20 again
Oh well, Have fun guys!
Me too, but you should at least get out to Knoebels this year :)
-
Alright guys what do you think? Cedar Point or Kennywood?
Go to Kennywood. you've never been there, and it is a great way to start a trip, since it will be less taxing then walking a mile out and a mile back at the point. KW has a great atmosphere, awesome rides, great staff, and good food. Well worth the stop.
-
lets not forget.. kennywood is ALOT cheaper!
-
I think they made up their mind already since Rob does all the driving
-
I think they made up their mind already since Rob does all the driving
 That and the fact we already booked the hotel for CP! I couln't pass up a $45 a night deal... split that between 3 and its almost nothing!
