Title: Prices Increase
Post by: WadeJ on January 06, 2006, 10:02:23 PM
Looks like things are changing already.. I'm not really complaining because I think the Season Pass is STILL too cheap.  But somehow, I have a feeling it will creep up slowly for the next couple of years.

http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/TicketInfo/index.html

FYI - Season Pass prices go up $15 this coming Monday

PS - Anybody that pays full gate price AT the park is not very bright

Maybe this year they actually will pull their SP prices when the "sale" ends. Last year they kept saying that SP's would raise after a certain date and they never did.

Hmm maybe I should get my SP before the price goes up. I usually get it during Fright Fest, but for some reason it totally slipped my mind and I never got it. Its going to be fun getting it processed at the beginning of the season  :?

Did I read that page correctly?  $59.99 for regular admission at the park???!!  Ouch!  But I did notice that for once they are finally offering a "starlight" admission.  After 5pm its only $25.00.  Is the $59.99 correct though??  It just doesn't seem possibly to charge that much.

Well, if you think about it, all of the orlando parks are over 60 now so it isn't really a stretch.  And this area is very expensive as well.

Another thing to keep in mind is that buying  a day pass online before going to the park is still under 40 bucks.  So basically, only a moron would pay the full 60. (and I'm sure some will)

I found it interesting that for the first time ever, the "lowest price of the season" may actually hold for season passes.  This is the first time I've ever seen them list the new higher price.

You're right Wade. I'm just very suprised at the drastic jump in one year and thought it would've been faded in over maybe two years instead.  I guess it doesn't really matter b/c I already have my 06 pass.

That's what I was talking about. Magic Mountain is even more rediculous. $49.99 at the gate, $49.99 for a season pass. But some people will go to the gate.

Last year I remember seeing people getting "greif" from SFMM employess because their pass wasnt proccessed yet... It took people well into 9 am to get in, which is unreasonable to me since the ERT starts at 8 and ends at 10... I got mine renewed from SFNE ($55) a few weeks ago luckily.

Well if ERT starts at 8 then they should get there earlier. I just ordered my pass because my mom didn't wanna pay the new, higher price for the passes. I can't wait to see what the 06 pass looks like, although I am sure people have it now. Anyone tell me whats on the pass?

ERT starts at 8... yes, but Magic Mountain didn't feel the need to bring in extra employees to work in the GR booth, or SP booth... making people have to wait longer.

The new pass has Mr Six on it actually..

Having Mr. Six on the pass is extremely ironic in my opinion. Wonder if they didn't know about them ridding the company of the character.

I'm not sure about that Wade. Last year I just went up to guest services and said I need a parking pass. She said 25 dollars please, got my tag and left for the day. Can you  buy a season pass to HH ? Then if that was the case you could buy a parking pass that way.

Couldn't you always borrow a  season pass from someone who doesn't drive yet. That way you could get a  parking pass with there pass.  What about this , you tell them you just moved to NJ and show your NJ drivers licenses as proof?

Just a couple of Ideas. I think having a pass from SFMM would be a cool souvenir.

man you have to be an idiot not to buy a pass if your going to go more than once.

I too have an urgent question... Since the prices go up on Monday, I want to buy my season pass Sunday online. However, it says "must buy two"! Does this not mean I can't buy ONE SP for myself at this price???

Apparently not online. C'mon the ride from Sayreville to Jackson ain't that bad! Hit the outlets!

Have you tried Pathmark yet? I'd bet you can get single tickets there again as well.

^^ NO NO NO! I double checked it last night because i was thinking the same thing. This is what it says:
Quote
2006 Prices valid through Jan. 8!
Theme/Safari Individual    $74.99
3-Park Combo
(Theme/Safari/HH)    $109.99
Hurricane Harbor Individual*    $74.99
Season Pass Parking*    $30.00

Prices effective Jan 9.
Theme/Safari Indiv. - Online must buy 2    $89.99
3-Park Combo
(Theme/Safari/HH)    $129.99
HH Indiv.* - Online must buy 2    $89.99

6% NJ state tax not included
* Tax not applicable
See "More Details" for shipping fees

Its only after today that you have to buy 2 passes online. Which is bogus in my opinion as well. But yeah, you can still buy one single pass as of today and only today.

This is not the first year you had to buy 2 passes online. I know that I tried last year and in order to buy SP online you needed to buy two. I wound up waiting until opening day and just buying one at the gate.

^ I've heard that you can, but I always got mine at guest relations in October. Wait, this is how I got my parking pass. (I think one year)

Pay the ten dollars at the parking booth. Keep the receipt to be handed in as credit. Pay the twenty dollar difference and walk away with a parking pass for 06.

Something I just looked up when talking to my friend.  A daily ticket to Walt Disney World is $63 without tax.  Now, I love Great Adventure, but I don't think it's worth Disney-like prices.  They really should have dropped the gate and raised the SP prices.  I know people who didn't go to Gadv before because they thought it was too high of a price, now what is this going to do to them?  I just hope this doesn't hurt attendance.
Title: Prices Increase
Post by: Bubba Z on January 09, 2006, 08:47:31 PM
Hold on, you want more people in the park? I like the idea of the gate price right where it is. With all the bonus stuff thrown at non season pass Holders for discount it's their own fault to pay 60bucks at the gate!!!

Remember all theses promos --- 2fers with coke cans, discounts with on line purchase, Burger King etc. etc.!!

I think they have been giving away the gate for years. It's about time they raised the price.

OK, so I just looked up the price for a season pass for SFA 54.99. With the gas and tolls you are still saving around 30 bucks. Downside you would need to wait to April 8th to have it processed.

Honestly rj, with the way SF is being led right now, it won't hurt us, enthusisasts too much in attendence is down. Honestly we probably wont get a coaster before 2010 so why force the money issue and make more people come to the park.

Post by: rjholla2003 on January 09, 2006, 09:15:18 PM
I guess that's just my mentality.  I'm one of those people where if I was in charge, I'd try to make the park so attractive that you'd be pulling a WDW and closing the park  from time to time because it's so busy.

Yes, it's true that they have been giving away the gate in recent years, but that was only because of the insane deals that they had.  If they cut the price a little and removed some of those deals that make the gate a steal, people would be attracted to the park because it's improved and it's cheaper, plus you'd make more off of them since you don't have loads of people getting half off, a friend in free, $10 off, and other things.  They'd be paying closer to the normal rate, or just the flat rate.  Everyone wins since the guest feels like they are getting a better value, attendance is up, per capita spending goes up with customer satisfaction, and the company makes more money.

what's the difference of setting a standard price and getting rid of the coupons, than raising the price and keeping the coupons?
Title: Prices Increase
Post by: stew560 on January 09, 2006, 11:02:49 PM
At least with the coupons people will say "At least they still have the coupons!" If they just lowered the price, people would say "Where are the coupons?" Plus it would possibly damage marketing relationships with Coke, etc.
Title: Prices Increase
Post by: Bubba Z on January 09, 2006, 11:09:49 PM
^yes very much so. all I'm saying is,  if you can't find the deal that's out there then you deserve to pay the $60.  I go to the park at least 20 times a season. In my mind $120 is a fair price. Plus I save $170 with a parking pass so actually they pay me 50 dollars to come to the park.
Title: Prices Increase
Post by: rjholla2003 on January 10, 2006, 12:43:48 AM
I'm not saying to abolish all coupons, I'm saying to tone them down a bit.  That way people will be happy that they have a lower gate, and even though coupons will be a bit harder to come by, people will still have them, and appreciate them.  IMO, that would get more bodies in the door than raising the gate and keeping the coupons.  The price raise will turn off people.

It will be interesting to see how all this plays out.   I have a feeling they are going to phase out a lot of the discounts this season, or at least tone them down.  Even if they still had $10 off or even BOGO, they'll still make more money than they would have with the old prices.

Also interesting that SFMM (http://www.sixflags.com/parks/magicmountain/TicketInfo/index.html) just raised their price to $59.99 as well, which is the same price as their "Play Pass".   It's cheaper to go to Disneyland (http://attractiontickets.tickets.com/buy/TicketTrans?storeID=DLR&ticketGroupID=DLR_TG_TIXX2006_1D1P&tokens=Yjl75NxINb5NXriV%2ByuwljDDDJx2gLbk0TIfLDi63tB9CR1jdhbf7dUI4hJ7eQhixoR06kHziHIo9oocMBdOWvHB%2B1zz3s7h65xXOBpAc%2B%2FVRnmlv67B1XT20T392vFhYUI%2FqhjKxkMGBi4QkoKFQAVY7CiN01WC1c4YbCEUZOu2DVCto85j1H6QQrLKAwkIWuZoj%2BQLBd7cUqvbpZzKCpGCv0qBbNzjgec9Y8mf9UAz8bld9clw032EmuakXsl5agFrq7Srg32mHtpBS%2BKK51rIViepGVtZfMv0nuXbWCTYxxAo%2FsN1crbqtRYxxc93%2FK%2BgrfyWZErLdk37uavY%2FNdoMs7aHbQ0bSW%2FqNVNZbD23zrYo9UJ%2BVsyxvEG8EUKu4saJsy%2F1zf23zrYo9UJ%2BeAQ%2FHB6V15jhzoLn4zTTeTPGWFsLw6WTyUevSsIll0X3GDMRFMmr4sRkeMKhBTdJhXiKMaq9RUI) now!

I'm not positive as I've never been there but hasn't MM always been less than Gadv?  I know the season passes there are a joke (49 bucks?).  What made them suddenly realize that it has the same expenses  and high priced rides as Gadv so they might as well charge the same?

IMO, having the wrong pricing structure has been hurting this chain for years.  And unfortunately, this had to be done (even though I don't agree with all of it).

But, gate prices should be lower, discounts should be fewer since it adds a perception of importance and value and season passes should be MUCH higher than they are now.

Do you see Disney and Busch parks constantly touting buy one and get one free?  No way!

I agree.. they have way too many buy one get one half off gimmicks floating around that everyone knows about.  What they should do, is make the price more affordable, and than drop the coupon things and whatnot.. so that people pay a reasonable price.. but everyone pays instead of one person pays like 60 bucks.

You don't see Busch and Disney giving away their parks because they are worth it.  :P

Actually ... both DCA and Sea World San Diego have had deals in the past (and currently) that allows you to pay for Disneyland and go to DCA the next day for free.

Sea World has had a "Play Pass" for the past few years too.

This is what I hope we evolve to as well.  Of course, were not exactly at DCA status where it would be that big of a deal to have a 2 day pass.  I think this is the direction they hope to go in a few years.. and well, maybe they're on their way.
