I'm going to start this thread now since it looks like we'll need one for at least a little while.
It seems El Toro will be down for a little bit. We'll post any official news we hear in this thread as it becomes available.
For now, this is all speculation only!
-
Can we call Cedar Point for this one?
-
^Cedar Point doen't have a P&P, call Liseberg, they have one of these.
I hope whatever happened was not serious. Sounds like the Intamin curse is not only with the rocket coasters. :-\
-
Cedar Point DOES have an INTAMIN coaster with a lifthill cable....just an observation...
-
But we don't know if the lift hill is the problem. ;)
Might as well call both Cedar Point and Liseberg to be safe.
-
Oh god. The park CAN NOT catch a break.
I just feel bad now. Hopefully this isn't serious.
-
LOL true
Although at this point, it doesn't appear to be anything horrible like we have seen with Kingda Ka. We have no idea right now - the ride could be open as soon as tomorrow. I just wanted our readers to be aware so they know before heading to the park ;)
And thanks to Chuck for the first heads-up on this situation :)
-
Has this been a whole day thing?
Or was this a spur of the moment, bad bad thing?
-
lucky I didn't go today I hope it's back up this week.
I want to use my 3 exit passes before they expire.
WHen it was running are they just using 2 ride ops to check the seats.
If so they need 4 ride ops with such a long train it's double Kingda Ka's
-
^ No they had 4 people in the station doing a fantastic job!! I guess it doesn't matter how many people they have now if they can't send a train! Could it be the second train that's causing the problems, since it ran flawless with one?
-
Just got home, the ride was down the whole time I was there. This is speculation but I heard the ride could be down for 1-2 weeks. Today just wasn't a good day at the park.
-
While I noticed that it was down today, I did see one empty train run today during the evening. Hopefully this is a good sign.
-
Can we call Cedar Point for this one?
;D I was actually just joking around but hey, either way
-
The problem cant be that serious because they sent three trains through the course when i was leaving work at the park.

I knew you were joking, so I just added on to the joke to 'lighten' the situation. ;)
An empty train running is definately a good sign.
-
^ No it's not, that means everybody fell out! :P ;D
-
Waiting for 100% confirmation but I hear it might be open again with 2 trains running ;)
-
Last Friday I went to the park super early and got right on El Toro (waited 15 minutes) and it was awesome! I did see the second train on the track, but not in use. Then I headed to Kingda Ka and waited over an hour to get on it - it was my first time! Amazing! Then did a bunch of other rides before a big thunder and lighting storm came and shut everyhting down for a half hour. The park cleared out a lot after that, as school groups left for the day. Went back and did Kingda Ka again (this time the wait was under an hour), then El Toro ended the night. :-) So I hope they've added the second train - that will speed up all the lines a little bit, though the employees are still quite slow in loading and unloading. They'll get the hang of it soon.
-
2nd train has been running since this past weekend ;) The issue here was with the entire ride being closed yesterday. We hear it is back operating again now though.
-
does anyone know if it is operating with two trains or one ? That is after it was closed on Monday . Looking to try to visit after a day at HH either Thursday or Friday .
-
It was running today with two trains filled with very happy people. Dispatches were timely also. Hooray! :D
-
I'm going to be on vacation all next week. i'll be on Toro alot ;D
-
I'm going to be on vacation all next week. i'll be on Toro alot ;D
Okay. I'll say it.
I'm jealous!
Have a great time!
Ole!

Are They running el toro in the rain? Just curious i realize for the potential for re-rides on days such as those we have been having.
-
Yeah, it has run in the rain.
-
yes they do run it in the rain i went on it three time after work last night
-
When are the season pass exit passes good until? I'm not sure where mine is at the moment. Do you just go up the exit with it? Is there a certain row that they put you in?
Sue
-
I think June 30th. I have three of them and trying hard to get to the park before then. Maybe they will extend it since EL Toro was closed?
*Moderator's note* Please use complete spellings for words.
-
the exit passes expire the 30TH of June . You need to go up a ramp around the back kind of where vipers exit was not the exit for toro because they will only send you around to the other side . At least that is what happened when we went.
-
I think June 30th
I have 3 of them and trying hard to get to the park b4 then
Maybe they will extend it since EL Toro was closed ?
Sorry, called the park, No extensions, GRRR!!!
-

Sue
1. June 30th
2. Coastermom is correct, When walking towards the station stay left and use the Wheelchair access ramp next to Rolling Thunder's first drop.(Viper's old exit ramp).
3. Since they only send a certain number of people into the station, I was able to pick any row I wanted. We picked the back row however , because the ramp leads you right there and it's one of the best seats on the train.

I just want to update the status of El Toro after getting 4 rides in an hour last night. The crew for that ride is one of the best I have ever seen. They had 2 trains running and there was a 10 minute wait for it and at some points no wait at all. No stacking, the ops were drenched in sweat from running up and down the platform. I just wanted to give a huge thanks and I noticed to the ops at the ride. Amazing.
-
Dont be afraid to go to guest relations to give them the credit they deserve! The main op is of course our own Keenan, for those who dont know him. I know Diana especially would love it if you all went to guest relations and gave the crew compliments!
-
Rumor has it that Toro along with several other coasters were hit by lightning on Sunday night. Unfortunately, Toro didn't open today. I'm not sure what its status is or the other coasters (if any) that were affected.
Anybody there tonight?
-
Hey wade the same rumor started last weekend also. We were in the park and the power went out there was a really nasty thunder and lighting storm and the same rumor was floating around about toro wonder how true it is ?? And if it really was struck twice?? :D
Well if anyone was there and is around to tell if it is open or will open this week let us know.
BTW one more thing if it is WOOD and lighting hit it wouldn't there be some sort of smoke or small fire ? Anything ? just wondering ::)
-
Not necessarily, sometimes trees that are hit just split right down the center without fire/smoke.
-
I'm sure there are Lightning rods on Toro as with all other tall rides in the park.
I myself haven't seen them but that doesn't mean they aren't there. I wasn't looking for any either
THere are two ways Lightning rods are used either one or a few tall rods or many many small rods I would think Toro would have many small rods as the taller rods would be much more visible.
cool link below all about lightning with many photos and animation.
http://wvlightning.com/cgdesc.shtml
-
Thanks for that GREAT lightning link!
-
FYI - Toro did eventually open late last night. I'm presuming it therefore ran today as well :)
As for the lightning rods, yes, they all have them - with exception of Ka, I believe they have multiple smaller ones. The problem is with the computers and sensors. Apparantly, it wreaks havoc on those systems. So even though the rod save the structure itself, many other things can be damages.
Kudos to Great Adventure for working ALL DAY on it and still opening it even though the park was closing in just a few hours!
Hopefully somebody that braved the park today can let us know its status.
-Wade (who is getting ready to shut down the pc for another storm lol)
-
I'll be there tonight, I will update you guys in the Mobile forums.
-
I was there today, just got back. El Toro was running great. The queue was nearly full and got to the station in about an hour. Another half hour wait for the front though.
I must say, when the crew is quick this queue flies. But unfortunately they spend so much time trying to fit the larger guests on the train that it really slows things down. I mean I saw a few instances where they spent at least 5 minutes just trying to get ONE persons restraints closed. While I think this is nice, and I feel for the larger guests, you can't hold up the ride that long.
But there was a handful of times where the train was out of the station so quick that the train coming in the brakes never stopped at all until it was in the station.
EDIT - Forgot to mention, crowds were pretty light/average. The wait for Nitro was only at the stairs so it's about a 5-10 minute wait. Kingda Ka is closed all day.
-
Thanks for the update! This is very good news.
And welcome to udpates ;)
-
lightning is very mysterious. A friend of mine told me her house got struck, but only the appliances on the downstairs circuit breaker were affected. Only certain rooms were affected, weird stuff. Id imagine a surge of power going through the rod and into whatever harnesses the original bolt would do some damage to a computer system.
what i want to know is, why havent they come up with something better already?
-
Why not? Because if they could have, they would have! Not all problems can be solved; but many that can remain to be solved.
Remember that story about the head of the patent office in the 18oo's who said they may as well close down the patent office because every useful invention had already been invented?
Now, look at El Toro and Kingda Ka. Imagine what SFGAd may look like 50 years from now. I, for one, have no idea.
-
El Toro is closed today...
-
I rode Toro today so i don't know what your talking about.
-
I rode Toro today so i don't know what your talking about.
Don't you mean: "I rode Toro today, so it appears you may not know what you are talking about"???
-
i've been asking people about el toro and reading the forum.. from what i've found out, the lline can vary from 15 minutes to 2 hours. XD what do you guys think i can expect in about 2 weeks? i wanna go so bad, its killing me.
-
It all depends on the day, the weather, the other people who decide to go, maintenance practices we are not privvy to, etc.
Also known as you pays your money and you takes your chances. NO ONE can predict the park's attendance or crowds in advance. Now we know that all other things being equal, weekends are usually more crowded....
-
El Toro was open for a short period of time today. When Chuck posted that, it was down for the rest of the night.
-
gr.. i hate the inconsistency of when rollercoasters are open or closed :-\
-
Hmmm.
I'd prefer that they be inconsistently closed than consistently closed. Deja Vu, anyone? Chiller? Volcano?
TTD or KK their respective first years?
It's just a fact of life...stuff happens. If they can get a closed coaster up and running, more power to them. I'd rather see that than to have it closed all day just because it didn't open with the park or shut down later in the day....
-
well yeah i can understand that thats how it works with new rollercoasters.
it just sucks when you go and its not open.. especially when you've been planning a trip.
i understand though ;)
-
Does anyone know if ET is back open? I am going next week and if its got going to be open I'm going to change the date of my trip.
-
It is open again on a fairly consistant basis. I'd check here the day before or the actual day you go. If something is up, we tend to find out really quickly ;)
-
Toro ran very well yesterday. We waited only 45 minutes to get on with two full switchbacks. Two trains really helps out the capacity! From what I saw, it ran very well.
-KKR05
-
i went on el toro today. it opened at 11 and broke down once for 20 minutes while i was in line. i waited for the front so it took about 2 hours.
-
Expect Toro to be down for much of today. Trust me, they are working on it!
-
El Toro down is down today 07/10/06.
They were saying it might be open again on Wednesday.
The train is sitting at the turn before the lift hill.
But the bridge is open!!
-
Thanks for the update...
Fyi - it is "possible" it will open tonight or tomorrow but Wednesday is the official date they are shooting for.
-
Any word on if it opened back up tonight? I'll be heading to the park tomorrow with some friends who haven't ridden Toro yet so hopefully it will be open.
-
toro opened mid day today. Ran both trains just fine.
-
has el toro been open lately?
-
I am waiting in line right now. It is running two trains.
-
that's great!! hopefully it will be up tomorrow.. :(
-
I never got on it last night, the line was just too long.
-
i went to six flags yesterday.. SO HOT!! :o it was up and running yesterday and it wasn't a bad wait at all.. felt like 5 minutes because the line kept moving. i think we waited about.. 30 minutes. i don't think that was bad at all
-
I went on it twice last night in the pitch black. About 30 minute wait both time, maybe even less than that.
-
oh man! it must be so much fun at night!
-
I'm bumping this thread so that people can keep up with the status of El Toro. It had a minor issue last Sunday that closed it the rest of the day and for some reason, there was speculation on the internet (go figure) that claimed it could be closed for a while. This is NOT TRUE! El Toro is running great as of this posting with 2 train operations so go out and ride it :)
-
It was running VERY fast on Friday 5/25.
-
Anyone going to the park the next few days should take note of El Toro's lift hill... it will most likely be CRAWLING over the top, due to recent "problems" that the park thought were under control, they now think the answer is slowing the lift hill down at the top, ala SFMM.
-
If you haven't been to the park in the past few years, the park removed allot of flat rides due to solutions they thought they had wrapped up in a nut shell, ala SFMM.
They felt that El Toro was feeling like Rolling Thunder, so they closed it. Rolling Thunder remains open.
-
El Toro is closed and there is a crane up with people inspecting the first drop.
-
El Toro is closed and there is a crane up with people inspecting the first drop.
Seriously!?
-
Yeah, hopefully it opens soon.
-
Chuck, do you know exactly what is wrong with El Toro's lift?
I don't know, but it seems that a lot of El Toro's problems concern the lift. Although it is once of its signature features, and a great/exciting feature, could the lift be converted to a normal chain lift, if problems will always occur?
-
I really think it has nothing to do with the cable lift, but don't quote me on it.
-
The problem with the ride isn't the lift hill, they just feel the problem can be resolved by slowing the lift hill down to nothing.
-
El Toro should be back online again shortly if not already. Just be prepared for intermittent closures until all issues are officially resolved.
-
Toro is running amazing right now with two trains. The wait is about 25 minutes, the only thing is they slowed the cable lift down when it reaches the top of the lift.
-
That is great news.....
-
El toro is still the same with the change of the lift.
-
Here's video of the new lift (http://youtube.com/watch?v=gPktxGsoEHk)
-
I was talking to one of my family friends and he said that the lift on El Toro was slowed down at the top because the speed of the train was causing too much stress on the first drop. Does anyone know if this is true?
-
Basically, yes.
