Screamscape is reporting (http://www.screamscape.com/html/industry_news.htm#SixFlags) that Six Flags will be making their 2014 announcements on August 29th. Time for rumors!
Screamscape is saying (http://www.screamscape.com/html/six_flags_great_adventure.htm) that Great Adventure will have something "record breaking".
Now, Screamscape is tying it back to an old rumor of attaching a drop tower to Kingda Ka (a la Drop of Doom (http://www.sixflags.com/magicmountain/rides/lexluthordropofdoom.aspx) at SFMM). Honestly I think it's about time for a coaster. If you consider El Toro to be the last "real" coaster then that's 8 years next year (already!). Okay TDK was in 2008 and Green Lantern in 2011, and a lot of the public consider Green Lantern new. But still!
-
I still say the park needs more flats.
-
Maverick type coaster - drop tower on the back of Ka would be cool
-
How would the state allow a drop tower on Ka? They didn't allow the old queue under the launch track. I don't see this happening unless this is the last year for Ka. (I don't know if I would miss it.)
-A low Maverick type coaster back in the old Hydro Flume area and the middle of Roaring Rapids.
-Get a Wooden Warrior
-Add something in the old Chiller area and fix up Old Country.
-
Wooden Warrior isn't right for SFGA.
Well I hope its good as I am probably making my return to SFGA after 5 years away. Last years announcements chain wide were cool.
-
I wish it's a maverick type ride, but I honestly think it might be a wingrider or something.
-
I think it's about time Great Adventure got a new coaster too.
They're still low on the flat ride count, as this year they finally matched the number from 2006 at 19. As a note, GAdv had 22 in 1975.
-
Baboons moved into the theme park next year?
-
I don't see a new coaster coming so close to Green Lantern. I could see a record breaking flat, some additions to the safari and/or waterpark, and maybe a new nite time show. The new Six Flags is playing it very frugal.

Eh, 2014 will be 3 years since Green Lantern. Remember we got Ka in 2005 and El Toro in 2006!
-
Under totally different management ;-).
-
If it 2014 is a drop tower I hope capacity > 16 people.
Go for the record of the most people per drop cycle.
-
If we get a drop tower I hope it is like Falcon's Fury in Tampa. That thing looks awesome.
-
FROM screamscape:
- Rumor - (7/19/13) "Six Flags put out an interesting survey for SFGAdv guests asking them to vote for the best sounding name for an “Africa themed, intense thrill ride”. They were to choose from “Kimanjo, Zumanjaro, Kimondo, Kushuku, or Shango”.
This alone seems to lock in the location that the park’s next major ride will go in somewhere on the new Safari end of the park, no matter if this is the rumored freefall ride or something else entirely. As for the names… while Six Flags failed to explain what any of them meant in the survey, running the names through Google and Google Translate has yielded some interesting and even amusing results.
Kimanjo is the name of a location in Kenya.
Zumanjaro comes up with no results at all and appears to be simply made up, as if they tried to put “Zu” in font of Kilamanjaro. Sorry… as the old Disney ads used to put it, Nahtazu!
Kimondo is another province within Kenya, but also translated from Swahili as the word for a Meteor or Shooting Star in the sky.
Kushuku translates from Swahili as “Skepticism”
And finally, Shango translates from Swahili as “Chlamydia”. Ummm… yeah… they went there. Sorry… while Six Flags may end up starting a new Meme with that one, I don’t think we’ll be riding Chlamydia: The Ride anytime soon.
My vote is for Kimondo… as a shooting star is a perfect theme for a massive freefall tower I think. "
-
Drop tower in the old baboon area?
That would be a much better view than seeing the parking lot.
-
and it'd actually fit a theme and give the back end of Bizarro's queue more traffic.
-

There are other ways they can get us to Ka's tower without walking through it's infield ;). I'm not aware of Ka being shutdown anytime soon. This will be one hell of a walk though!
-
I never noticed Kingda Ka actually has be lit up, or maybe I've just never been there at night in quite some time.
The flat front of Kingda Ka could actually hold a decent sized drop ride. A cable snap could still be an issue it was put on that side of the tower. I've never been on the Kingda Ka tour so I don't know how close the cable is to the tower.
-
I would like to see a new set of flats and to have them in the Old Country area would be great . I would like to see the monkeys / baboons some how brought to the SORA I cant see how they are not there now anyway since they were put in cages .
As for a drop tower I could do with or with out it . Attached to Ka with the issues ka has sometimes I can not picture another ride attached to it . Maybe in the area that was the GK where the kids rides were but not attached to Ka .
I guess we will have to wait to Aug 29th to see !
-
So I haven't been here in a minute... I'll chime in here. I will leave it to the park to make the announcement, but coaster, it is not for 2014.
-
What Six Flags are going to get coasters... Lately the chain gets about 2-3 total.
-
Six Flags America is rumored to get some sort of coaster for 2014, I have no clue about the other parks.
-

The issue with the queue going under the track was because that is where the launch took place. The tower itself is perfectly safe.
-
Lately, at the end of Safari Off Road Adventure, they have been addressing the fact that the baboons are absent from the SORA experience. They have been hinting at the fact that they wanted to figure out a way to showcase them, and "do it right", and stated that there should be "exciting plans" announced soon regarding them. With the location of the baboon area, as well as the drop tower rumors...it seems that they could play well with each other. I also could be thinking too much, lol.
-
So they are going to resurrect Freefall as a play place for the baboons!
-
So tear down rolling thunder, install the worlds longest queue ever to reach the drop ride and have it pass through the enclosed baboon structure on your way? The scary part is I can see that actually happening lol
Or, as Jerry said, they could just be throwing a chunk of steel from Free Fall to go with the piece of scream machine track lol
-
The baboons have had their own coaster for years. Why not give them a drop tower?
I honestly thought they would bring the baboons into the "Temple of the Tiger" area and hopefully reopen that walkway.
-

That walkway will never open again as it is a walk through for FF and in turn making money for them ! Cash is always better then a walk way for customers to get from one side of the park to another faster .
The announcement of what ever the park is going to do should be intresting I would like to see Rolling Thunder stay as it is always a reminder of great times there from when I was younger and it is a coaster for the smaller of the kids to ride at 44 inches to get on .

YOL...T?
-
As Tom mentioned in the shoutbox, many are speculating that Rolling Thunder is coming down after this season so just in case, you may want to get those last rides in. Hopefully we'll know for certain on August 29th.
-
The worlds longest queue is going to start by you carrying an electric poker and making your way through the baboon section. If you make it out you will be allowed to ride.
-
Rolling Thunder reprofile, maybe? I doubt they'd just tear down an entire wooden coaster when they spent weeks fixing a rotwood issue on the ride, if they really wanted to get rid of it they would've just been better off starting their latest project right now.
-
I was also thinking the same thing maybe even a IRONHORSE make over but the coaster isn't big like the other two?
-
It does seem strange that they would spend a couple weeks fixing it if they were removing it. However, it does worry me that the right side has not reopened.
-
Rolling Thunder is such a simple low maintenance design. It's pretty sad the park can't keep it running well when small independent parks have no trouble keeping their similar out & back woodies running fine. Making RT into a steel racer is a no brainer for the mark IMO. Market it as a new racing coaster.
-
I seriously doubt they will remove rolling thunder.
-
Yes Matt if they could reprofile the coaster and make it a whole New experience
-
strange decisions this park makes....
Found out the wonderland announcement is Aug 30th. I'm guessing other CF parks will occur around the same time. Word is we are getting same dark ride as CP will be getting. But who knows.
-
Some Monday rumors from Screamscape to keep everyone occupied:
Keep in mind this is rumored only, but again I’m hearing that Rolling Thunder could be removed at the end of the season, and a drop tower ride somehow attached to the Kingda Ka tower. Other rumors for 2014 suggest that Ballin’s Jungle may return with a new kiddie coaster and that the Temple of the Tiger venue may get a makeover and Baboons from the Safari may move in.
So basically the "Remove RT for a drop tower queue" idea again? And, what's in Temple of the Tiger this year anyway? I know it was the small animals the past few, did they move to Camp Adventura now? And who wants Baboons inside the park that just sounds like an awful idea.
If the rumors are true SFGAdv’s next coaster may be in the works for 2015, and will be located on the former spot of The Chiller. The rumors suggest it may be a B&M coaster project… and if not a Wing coaster, possibly B&M’s first 4th Dimension style ride if they are ready to go ahead with the concept. The theme isn’t known, the area around the ride could become home to a new flat ride or two as well to try and build up this closed off area of the park once again. This is a very long term rumor and a lot can change between now and 2015, so this may only be a placeholder.
Well, there were also rumors of re-opening Old Country so this would fit in right with that.
-
I don't see a wing rider arriving in Old Country unless they demolish Chillers station, the batman stunt arena and leverage part of the backstage area. That's a ride with a big foot print. I've been hearing the RT rumor for over a year now so that has me somewhat concerned.
-
I want a wing coaster themed to...
Wait for it...
C L A W S !!!

We've been hearing the drop tower rumor for even longer :P

LMAO! Wow. Blast from the past lol
-
Wouldn't we all be surprised if it actually happened.
That kid was persistent.

"Follow your dreams, believe in yourself, and never give up. "
-
LOL It still cracks me up.
-
What a sad day it will be if they do remove RT ! We just returned from BGW and loved Verbolten if you have not ridden it then you dont know the suprise but if you have it is a great little event !! I dont know of anyother coaster in the US that has it ?? Now that would draw people in to the park ...
A winged coaster is cool too we rode Wild Eagle in Dollywood last summer it was different but I like a Dive coaster like Griffon better in my opinion.
What ever we get I just hope it includes some more flats !!

Actually chillers station would be perfect for a wingrider since it has queues to both sides of the station.

So in the Fright Fest Press release I noticed "NEW INDOOR LOCATION! The Manor"..
The Manor used to be on the walkway between El Toro and Ka.
Not that I'd ever expect them to start any new construction this early.
(Why have something ready for 2014 opening day?)
-
Geez. I really need to read these press releases more closely! That sounds awesome. I do have to wonder what they are using for a true indoor experience. There is no hypnotis show in the showcase theater so it could be there as well?
The new corn maze along the lake sounds good to. Both of these locations wouldn't interfere with 2014 potential plans though lol
-
The Mach 5 / Dino Island / Sponge Bob / 5D Movie Theater Building seems like a good place.
Showcase is for that Ghoulmasters Ghosts show now.
-
Good point. Didn't think of there.
-
As awesome as it would be too have a 450+ft drop tower on the back of Ka, I just cant imagine how much money they would save by just building a standalone drop tower somewhere else in the park.
-

But what if it were THREE DROP RIDES on the back of Ka???
Hmmm...
-
But what if it were THREE DROP RIDES on the back of Ka???
Hmmm...
Is that a not so subtle hint?
Would it count as 3 drop rides or 1 drop ride. ;)
At least something will be running when Ka is down...unless Intamin is building the drop ride too.
-
What I was told wasn't 100% confirmed but who I heard it from has never given me false info in the past (it's not Jim, Matt).
-
LOL at "it's not Jim, Matt". :D
-
LOL.
-
I heard 3 as well. There are technically 3 sides to that tower... And yes, it will be an intamin product if it happens lol
-
Supports have shown up at the park!
Found this on Facebook courtesy of Great Adventure Online (https://www.facebook.com/gadvonline)

And if anyone doubts these are Kingda Ka tower-style supports, I took this on 10/30/2004!

EDIT just posted by the park on its Facebook Page "In 2014 the biggest theme park in the world is going bigger once again! Our world-record-breaking streak is about to continue! Who's excited for Thursday's announcement?"
8 new pics taken today
from Jennifer Quinlan on facebook
many of the supports look to be small connector pieces not really anything large like ground supports
looks like they may attach to the tower

Nice pictures!
-
Those look like a lot more supports than for just one side of Ka.
-
Maybe they're using those to knock Rolling Thunder down. ;-)
-
jokes^
-
I'm not laughing. :-(
-
The idea of them literally knocking down a coaster with supports that were only brought in to knock down a coaster.... Priceless.
-
Just thinking ... How on earth did SFGADv get the state of NJ to OK this when it is so "UNSAFE " to use the line we have now for KK with the whole snapping of the cable thing that happened a few years ago . Half of the line was unusable even when both sides were loading so it is not just that they are loading one side now . It just confused me that the ride can have another ride attached to it but people can not stand in line under it or too close to it ? I just hope it works better then KK did in its first summer and that both rides can run together !
-
You don't need supports to knock down Rolling Thunder. Just run 4 trains for an entire day and it will shake itself apart.
-

Does the queue need to go under Kingda Ka? Looking at what's been discussed i think it'd be better going around it instead (god forbid any jerk throws his phone off the top of Ka).
-
I don't think the queue would go anywhere near Ka. If we are assuming Rolling Thunder is coming out than the queue will be in there somewhere, and hopefully GK will be open to FA through there as well.
Removing RT opens up A LOT of space though, I wonder what else is planned. [Not allowed to say smoking areas!]
-
All find out tomorrow I guess, if it's a 450+ft drop tower I'll be happy. I hope they don't remove RT though.
-
Sorry dude. Unless something major makes them change their mind, RT is done :(.
-
I once got in a huge argument with dark ride dan about rolling thunder being a horrible ride.... I had statistical evidence it was...lol
The said, sad day for this crew. Alot of memories for sure.
450' drop tower is hype though if you think about it.
-
So I was off by one detail. I thought it was going on the back of Ka. Whoops.
-
I'm closing this. Please continue discussion in the announcement thread.
