Six Flags Great Adventure Announces 'The Dark Knight' Themed Coaster for
2008 Season
Six Flags Great Adventure announced today its new attraction for 2008: "The Dark Knight Coaster," an indoor dark coaster based on Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming movie The Dark Knight featuring
DC Comics' characters Batman and The Joker. The Dark Knight Coaster opens April 2008.
"Today's announcement represents Six Flags Great Adventure's continued focus on delivering a
well-rounded and balanced entertainment package," said Mark Kane, Six Flags Great Adventure's Park President. "The Dark Knight Coaster offers a unique experience that will appeal to families and teens alike."
The Dark Knight Coaster will transform guests into citizens of Gotham City ? caught in the middle of a city under siege and torn apart by The Joker.
With The Dark Knight Coaster, guests will experience the ride of their lives. Venturing through demented hallways of twists, turns and hallucinatory images, they are tormented by The Joker himself. Then as they set foot onto a distressed, vandalized train platform, they can only guess at what awaits them as they speed through six 180-degree hairpin turns, climb unseen hills, plunge into pitch darkness and dip into unforeseen danger. As they attempt to escape the terror, their only hope is that Gotham's Silent Guardian ? Batman ? can save them.
"The opening of The Dark Knight Coaster will be perfectly-timed to coincide with the debut of the next Batman film from director Christopher Nolan. We're very excited that fans will be able to have a
first-hand experience with the sites, sounds and thrills of crime fighting in Gotham City," said
Brad Globe, President, Warner Bros. Worldwide Consumer Products.
The Dark Knight Coaster will use storytelling, physical movement, video, sound and special effects to bring guests a one-of-a-kind dark ride experience. The $7.5 million coaster will be located in the Movietown section of Six Flags Great Adventure.

YES another coaster for the middle height group!!! my son at 44inches can ride with us. :) I am happy to see this and can't wait for the renderings and animation as well .
No more Batman themed rides ? :-\ Not even using other charactors from the Batman francise?
Me thinks we'll see some Movie Town action. IMO, this area is due for a massive makeover ;D
On the jackson township zoning and planning board agenda for october 1 states this
"1.
Administrative Approvals
a. Block 3101, Lot 11 - Six Flags Great Adventure
Ride removal/replacement and re-theming
"
So maybe they will be retheming the area. One of you can go down to the meeting on monday night and find out. :)
Then as they set foot onto a distressed, vandalized train platform
Why don't we ever see a Wonder Women ride ? :D
Why don't we ever see a Wonder Women ride ? :D
Haven't you seen the Wonderwoman Invisible Plane ride next to Chiller.
Easy to miss! It is in Freefall's old spot!
Why don't we ever see a Wonder Women ride ? :D
Why don't we ever see a Wonder Women ride ? :D
I been reading / maybe it will now go where Chiller is from its original freefall location ? :-\
maybe thats the reason why they are so quick to remove it ?
Just a website issue and it should be resolved soon ;)
Just a website issue and it should be resolved soon ;)
I'm confused with this :/
Wow Great Adventure 3 years in a row a new coaster, but minus 2
The meeting has ended for sf, here is what was learned.
- Chiller being removed.
- being replaced with enclosed ride with a dimension of 75'x45'x65'
- It will be a direct removal and replacement.
- There will be some themeing to go along.
The question was brought up about if there was going to be construction in undeveloped land, NO.
and MTWE was NOT on the list for removal, but personally i still think its strange to have a sign in the entry way.
It should. Plus Chiller had a ton of room from the unused queue. I'm wondering how they plan to make this huge box look semi-decent there. Skull Mountain backs to water and has trees near it. This will sorta just looked plopped there much the same way Spongbob does.
Its definately too big for Free Falls plot unless they busted into the backstage area with the building. Geez, don't they learn anything from Disney? Put the ride buildings BACKSTAGE!
Oh well, still a great addition. As for MTWE, who knows at this point. Remember, the Hydro Flume removal wasn't mentioned in the meeting minutes until mid-winter. Annoucing the removal of two rides now could affect season pass sales and they likely wouldn't need to start ripping it down until the season ended anyway. Thats IF its going.
According to Six Flags, The Dark Knight Coaster will “transform guests into citizens of Gotham City - caught in the middle of a city under siege and torn apart by The Joker.” The Dark Knight Coaster’s will use storytelling, physical movement, video, sound and special effects to bring guests a one-of-a-kind dark ride experience.
OK Angel :)
its been a month since the last update
I know I know its the holiday and its cold out ;)
this should hold us over for now
Does anyone think it is really going to be ready in April?

Maybe they are going to reopen "Adventure Theater" in Chillers observatory.
Anyone remember almost falling over in that place while watching the movie?
A picture from the wonderful Great Adventure History site:(http://gahistory.amusementpics.com/1988/19880039.jpg)
I can see it opening in April. The only thing they are going to have to worry about is theming. The ride will snap together in 3 days like a lego set :P
The Dark Knights Joker is Dead
The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams -- they separated in September, 2007. He plays The Joker in the upcoming Batman film, "The Dark Knight" and is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking role as Ennis in "Brokeback Mountain."

It does but maybe its just me, but it looks like theres a lot of leftover space from MTWe and Chiller....
If you read that one, it says the New Mexico park had the parade as well and it has been a "huge success."
What if they just have more floats already in the works? I bet we get half of the parade and they get the other.
"The Glow in the Park Parade is something that we wanted all along," he said. "Our guests are really going to be blown away by it when they see it."
"We are extremely excited about it," Six Flags spokeswoman Melissa M. Pinkerton said. "We have the best of the best working on the parade."
"We've already got a lot of roller coasters," Litton said. "This is going to be something entirely new for us."
Six Flags' 10 roller coasters include the Superman Ride of Steel, named the world's best steel coaster three out of the past five years by Amusement Today Magazine.
Hard to split a 5 float parade in two. :D
Due to extenuating circumstances, Six Flags New England will not open The Dark Knight Coaster in the 2008 season. Instead, we're excited to announce the Glow in the Park Parade ? a phenomenal nighttime extravaganza for the entire family.
In addition to the Glow in the Park Parade, Six Flags New England has a thrilling 2008 season in store for guests of all ages, including:
The return of the immensely popular Starburst? Thursday Night Concert Series featuring free concerts by top-name acts like Flo Rida, Mario, Natasha Bedingfield and Raven, plus:
10 world class coasters, including Superman Ride of Steel
Three children's areas - Wiggles World, Thomas TownSM and Looney Tunes Movie Town
New England's largest and best water park - free with park admission
An all-new Johnny Rockets Restaurant, The Works Pizza and Grinders along with a second Cold Stone Creamery
Season pass holders will also enjoy exclusive ride time on Superman Ride of Steel, the three time Golden Ticket winner for world's best steel coaster, on June 19 from 10am-12:00pm. Flash your pass and enjoy the ride! Other season pass benefits include:
Five free tickets for friends (valid on select days)
Over $300 in exclusive pass holder perks
Over 20 free concerts and special events
"Flash and Save," our new in-park discount program
Free Fright Fest
Unlimited visits to Six Flags Theme Parks, including Six Flags Great Adventure and The Great Escape, both parks within a 4 hour drive
With your season pass you can experience The Dark Knight Coaster this season at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey and Six Flags Great America Gurnee, Illinois with no entry fee.
We are extremely excited about the 2008 season and hope you share that excitement. As a matter of courtesy, we are offering our season pass holders who bought their passes prior to April 18, 2008 the opportunity to obtain a full refund of the price of their season pass. In order to obtain a refund, you must contact Six Flags New England at 413-786-9300 ext. 3464, on or prior to May 1, 2008.
