Yay! 30 bents! :D

I love the fact that they have it listed for October 19th, which is tomorrrow.
-
Here's the newest entry...
October 19
This past weekend, we completed topography and tree markings for the new childrens' section ? Bugs Bunny National Park - and confirmed the final layout and placement for the childrens' rides. We also began excavation for the top of the lift footings and assembled more than 30 bents.

They seem to be updating the journal but where are the pictures? I want some pictures!! lol
-
I bet we will see some pictures when it starts to go vertical.
-
what are bents anyway? are they like sections of the struture?
-
Taken right from the journal "Bents are what the track sits on" ;)
-
WOHO NEW ENTRY!!! Not much to get excited over
October 24
The past two days we've poured concrete for the lift footings and pier caps and continue to fabricate bents for the lift area.

It's great to see them updating all the time.
-
^ Enjoy it while that last lol.
-
There's a new journal entry today :)
http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/parkpress/fallconstructionjournal.html
-
Well its on schedule to go vertical on or before monday. So maybe we'll see something before the park is closed for the season.
-
While I love how they are giving us detailed reports, does anybody else think that the latest entries should be at the top? It almost seems like its backwards to me.
Oh well. I'm thrilled with what they have added so far anyway :)
-
Nov. 3 - The major concrete pour was completed for the lift hill Oct. 28. With the footings for the lift hill and return drop in place, form work to complete the setting of anchor bolts and pier caps follows. The first bent frame was erected Oct. 28. Eleven bents are currently in place. With the mild Nov. weather we?re experiencing, we expect to make a significant progress by week?s end. Clearing for the Plaza de Carnaval continues with the removal of 54,000 sq. ft. of concrete walkway and site grading. We are currently preparing the area along Lahaway Creek. This section will consist of approximately 35% of the track for El Toro.
For the next several weeks will focus on lift erection and footing for the return track adjacent to the lift and along Lahaway Creek.
Update from Al Rubano ? Director of Construction
-
Where is Lahaway Creek? I have never heard of it before.
-
The small body of water where RAMT has its last curve into the station. There are also 2 fountains on it and the bridge that closed last season from where Viper was over to Medusa crosses over it ;).
-
Nov. 11 - The construction of El Toro continues moving forward. The mild November weather has been in our favor and enabled us to accomplish a lot over the last week. The lift hill has been assembled to a height of about 75 feet and several sections of track along the bottom of the lift hill are in place. Assembly and erection will continue throughout the weekend. We have excavated footings for the bents extending along the Lahaway Creek. Footings for the bottom of the return drop have been excavated in preparation to be formed. Al Rubano ? Director of Construction

Construction Journal updated...
http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/parkpress/fallconstructionjournal.html
At the bottom of the page...
-
Reading that made me feel like I was reading a Fromers guide book. "Here's a fun fact"
-
It's true ^^^
I got that fact sheet in my room, they handed it out to us at the top off.
-
Yup... looks rather similar to this lol - http://gadvupdates.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=84
-
Dec. 28 - On Dec. 20 the lift hill was topped off at 188 feet. We are now focused on bent assembly for the hairpin turn at the top of the lift hill to the first drop. Massive bents will be assembled on the ground, lifted and set in place to an erected height of 187 feet.
The winch drum for the cable and catch car system has been set. As we move forward, we are in the process of setting up a separate lift-detail gang to focus on El Toro?s track and mechanical assembly.
Work continues at a steady pace throughout the area. Last week a concrete pour for the station bent footings was complete. During this last week of 2005, excavation work in the Plaza del Carnaval section will continue from the return to La Cocina restaurant.
Al Rubano, Director of Construction
-
Thanks for posting that Chuck. Hopefully this journal update will be accompanied by some pictures. That would be awesome to see the last construction of 2005.
-
FlyinPhil is supposed to be getting us an ariel update soon. It's either going to be him or, the official site first. Our next tour will be in a few weeks.
-
I wonder what the shots will look like. Hopefully awesome. I cant wait until they construct the turn around and drop. That should look incredible from the air. I think six flags is doing a great job with construction.
-
And so far, construction is right now schedule :)
Yes, they are doing a good job!
-
I'm trying not to sound pessimistic but at the rate they're going, it looks like construction will be complete by June. it's the end of december and the lift hill isn't even complete. :(
-
Hopefully I won't be inserting my foot at a later date but I had the same concerns at one point.
Keep in mind that a TON of work is going on at ground level right now. The most time consuming part (besides the lift hill) is the bent construction. These are being pre-built on the ground and will all be raised in sections. A huge portion of the footers are also done so progress should be in huge spurts.
Apparantly, this type of coaster doesn't go together the same way we are used to seeing which is why it isn't anywhere close to as far along as Voyage or Rumbler. The lift hill was only a priority so that the workers can begin work on the complex lift system which is why they erected the bents as they were built for this section.
So, with caution, I'll say what they said which is that things are right on schedule. Of course, I'm not sure they would say anything else LOL.
I don't know what to think at this point David. I'm curious to see how things are later in January.
-
They starterd on voyager a good long time ago.. but that is made of steel supports right? I know el toro is going to be alot more complicated than that.
And also, i have my faith that the rest of the coaster will go up pretty fast. The ground work is way ahead of the coaster vertical support, which is a good sign because they can just, up and go as soon as they are ready.
However, i do not think bugs or carnival will be finished come opening day.. your probably accurate in saying more towards june on that one.

New pics + http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/parkpress/photos.html
Jan. 19, 2006 The high winds and rain this week were definitely a challenge. We continued erection to bent 65 at the curve of the lift hill. We started erection at column lines 101 to 107 which runs parallel with the station pass the invert of the first drop. Foundation will continue through phase four and layout continues for phase five and six.
Foundation work for retail structures such as the ride photo building and merchandise kiosks will begin in the near future.

Jan. 27, 2006 This week we continued framing of the hairpin turn at the top of the lift. To keep the job moving we are working on various sections of the coaster. We continued erection up to columns 115. We are assembling bents for column line 137, which is heading south along Lahaway Creek.
Layout for the kiddie rides in Bugs Bunny National Park will begin next week. Ride names have been created and approved for the new kids? section.

sounds like BBNP is all on paper and ready to go. They need to plot a few things and start building/theming.
Also, it sounds as though theyre going to pick up on ET
-
Wonder who had to approve the ride names?
Either of the two S-men?
-
That goes through PR and straight up to the main dudes or dudettes.
-
Feb. 4, 2006 We've had a great start to phase 5 and 6, although we tend to loose one day of work a week due to inclement weather. We erected 188 feet to bent line 71 and erected from column lines 99 to 115 and 141 to 166. We substantially completed phase 1, 2 and 3 and are approximately 95 percent complete with phase 4. We began installation of underground conduit on the motor control center to the base of the lift continuing to the top of the lift as well as the safety rigs located in the cross-over section of phase 5 and 6.
We completed area demolition in Bugs Bunny National Park and layout on two kiddie rides in preparation for the foundation and slab work.

Feb. 4, 2006 We've had a great start to phase 5 and 6, although we tend to loose one day of work a week due to inclement weather
One day a week in this weather ? Shouldn't they be working 6 day work weeks anyway. Now I'm confused as when they do work. Isn't there some kind of bonus money for finishing early
-
They can stop doing journal entries lol. I still can't believe this weather though, I freeze to death one day and then could go out in a t-shirt the next day. This is one strange winter.

well, it has been windy?
-
Just to clarify...
He is saying that they are losing a grand total of about 1 day a week on average due to the weather. Basically, they could be working 7 days a week but a few hours here and a few hours there over the course of that week total up to around 1 day of work being lost.
-
^ true ^^ and true..... I just wish the season could get here or I could go on a road trip soon. I know they are working as hard and fast as they can without getting hurt and etc.

New Update:
You can really see the drop coming together in this photo below

Feb. 10, 2006 Work continues at a normal pace with the exception of three rain days last week. We erected to bent line 73 and erected from column lines 116 to 118 and 167 to 170. Framing for the station unload deck is complete and we started framing for the station loading deck. The installation of underground conduit on the motor control center to the base of the lift continuing to the top of the lift and safety rigs in the crossover section are substantially complete.
We excavated foundation and footings for one of the kiddie rides in Bugs Bunny National Park.
We awarded contracts for the interior finishes, fixtures and equipment for La Cocina and the merchandise kiosks comprising El Mercado are scheduled for delivery the week of Feb. 13.
Things are moving along.
-
Those pictures are awesome, the track seems to be moving along a lot quicker now.
-
Feb. 17, 2006 After loosing two days for snow removal, we continued to move forward and erected to the top of column line 76. We now completed the hairpin turn at the top of the lift. Fabrication of bent 77 and 78 are in progress.
We have approximately 20 percent completed in phase 5 and 6.
Installation of Bugs Bunny National Park foundation work for two kiddie rides is scheduled to be completed by Feb. 20.

It's great to hear the word theming for BBNP. I have no doubt BBNP and PDC will look just as good as GK!
-
So I guess there are 4 rides total in BBNP? We already saw 2 rides sitting in the parking lot and we know that the kiddie carousel is heading there. So what is the 4th ride?
-
Five Themed Rides:
Bugs Bunny Camp Carousel
Daffy Duck Hot Air Balloons
Porky Pig Camp Wagons
Wile E. Coyote Canyon Blaster
Bugs Bunny Ranger Pilots
A Water Play Element
Kids can cool off as they run under this new, oversized, sprinkling fountain on hot summer days.
Bugs Bunny Wilderness Theater
Features a fun, interactive children's show starring Bugs Bunny and pals.
Looney Tunes Camp Kitchen
A snack bar-style eatery with wide assortment of sweet treats, snacks and junior meals for kids.
I found this on the main site's page for BBNP. Seems like a nice lineup, and I can't wait to see the finished product!

March 3, 2006 We continued erection through column line 83, column lines 99 through 136 and 138 through 176. The reason we break-up erection into sections is to allow for site access. We also erected through the station and continued into the hairpin turn outside the station.
We began painting Looney Tunes Camp Kitchen and Bugs Bunny Wilderness Theater. We ordered lumber and sculptures for the entrance portals of Bugs Bunny National Park. Porky Pig Camp Wagons and Daffy Duck Hot Air Balloons are scheduled to arrive March 15.
Al Rubano, Director of Construction
And now the text. Good update.
-
March 10, 2006 We erected to column line 93. Bents 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, and 131, 132, 133, and 137 are built and ready for installation.
In Bugs Bunny National Park, all the kiddie ride foundation is complete with the exception of the newly-added kiddie train ride. Operators booths are in fabrication and scheduled to be delivered March 20. Bugs Bunny Camp Carousel and Bugs Bunny Ranger Pilots are 50 percent erected.
Al Rubano, Director of Construction
Progress seems to be moving along nicely. :)

The mechanical drive is ready for installation on the lift. Phase 5 and 6 are approximately 65 percent complete.
We poured the concrete ballast and pad for the railroad track. We received the Daffy Duck Hot Air Balloons, Porky Pig Camp Wagons and Wile E. Coyote Canyon Blaster and began erection. The Bugs Bunny Wilderness Theater is painted and we began to install fencing.

March 24, 2006 Construction on El Toro continues to march forward aggressively for opening. The trains arrived and will soon go through inspection prior to installation.
The excitment is starting to really build in Bugs Bunny National Park as the team at Six Flags puts on the finishing touches. All the children rides, area theming, walkways and fencing are coming to a completion. The area will be filled with sound and colors for opening day March 31, when we introduce a whole new section devoted to our youngest guests.

better late then never.
I wish they would take a picture of the whole coaster not just little parts of it.
I want to see that drop
-
patience grasshopper, only 7 days.
Confucius says ...
"7 days without coasters makes one weak"
-
You haven't heard about the big set of curtains to be put around El Toro while the park is open until the coaster is....unveiled?

-
its just a big huuuuuuge tarp that sharpiro is going to pull. should be a pretty good media day if you ask me!
-
March 30, 2006 Al Rubano and the entire maintenance and new costruction teams are extremely busy putting the finishing touches on Bugs Bunny National Park. On my visit to the area today carpenters were busy at work securing the new entrance portal and completing the log cabin style Ranger Station. The fiberglass foreman carefully completed the addition of Bugs Bunny to the water tower. Painters were putting on the final touches to the kiddie rides and landscape added beautiful flowers and plants to bring the section to life.
All the shows will complete their final dress rehearsals for our big opening day of March 31.

April 8, 2006 The race is on for Six Flags Great Adventure and the opening of El Toro. Construction is moving along at a rapid pace.
By the end of this weekend we will close bent sections 85-88 and 133-137 at the hairpin where the train leaves the station and also the bridge section 176-179, which is the access point to the walkway along Layaway creek. We have roughly 35 bents remaining that will complete the hairpin turn in the Plaza del Carnaval area.
Keep a watchful eye on the next few weeks, because construction is moving quickly.
Al Rubano, Director of Construction

walkway along Layaway creek
This still makes me very happy!
-
I am extremely excited, as this is the first hints of a Toro opening being anytime soon. My guess is it will open same time Ka did....around May 21st or so.
-
walkway along Layaway creek
This still makes me very happy!
As am I stew. WHen we were on the tour thats where we stood between the ride. I guess that this path is going to connect to the bridge and than back outside from the ride. I still am not entirely sure where the line access is going to be.. actually i think it might be that same path.
-
The line is going to start pretty much on the "other side" of the path from where the walkway under El Toro is.
-
April 14, 2006 The iron workers completed the installation of the structural steel bridge cross-over section that will support the track that sends riders over the Rolling Thunder drop. Carpenders pre-fabricated the two bridge sections that extend between column lines 176 - 179 over the guest walkway that leads to and from the Lahaway creek bridge near Medusa. Final bent fabrication and installation for the super elevated hairpin turn will be complete by the end of the week. Millright mechanics complete the installation of drive systems both in the station and on the lift.
Excavation for Tango will begin tomorrow.
Al Rubano, Director of Construction
-
April 22, 2006 We poured the foundation for Tango and the ride is scheduled for delivery and installation April 26. The foundation slab for the merchandise kiosk is scheduled to be poured today and installation is scheduled for Mon., Tues., and Wed. of next week. Foundation for the ride photo kiosk is scheduled for Mon.
We are fully erected with El Toro in phase 1, 2, 3 and 4. We fully tracked out in phase 1, 2 and 3. 60 percent of tracking is completed in phase 4 and will be finished by next Friday. We started to erect bents in phase 5 and 6 starting at the cross-over section. Erection of the stairs and ramp section for the station is scheduled for Wed.
Al Rubano, Director of Construction
Very nice!
-
April 29, 2006 We are on the home stretch and have completed tracking in phase 1,2,3 and 4. We are setting column lines for phase 5 & 6 including the Rolling Thunder crossover section. Tracking in phase 5 and 6 is scheduled to be completed May 8.
Walkways and queue for Tango are scheduled to be completed May 8. The merchandise kiosk building structure installation is complete and foundation for the photo booth is complete, framing will begin Monday. Installation of the exterior fenceline is in progress and 50 percent complete.
Al Rubano, Director of Construction
Done with phase 5 and 6 by May 8th! Awesome!
How many phases are there?
-
6 is the highest phase I have heard them mention. :D
-
May 14, 2006 Progress continues with the setting of Plaza del Carnaval entrance portal icon. We are completing the finishing touches of fence work and queue line walkways for Tango. When passing Tango, straight ahead is the completed El Mercado gift shop. We are providing the equipment for the restaurant and finishes for the Bill-of-Fare for La Cocina .
Finishing touches and graphics are in progress in El Toro's station. All structural framing and track is in place and gauging of the track is 95 percent complete. Trains are scheduled to be placed May 15.
Al Rubano, Director of Construction

Latest update
May 28, 2006 It was a flurry of activity during the past week in Plaza del Carnaval, as team members prepared for the opening of the section on Saturday, 5/27. The merchandise department stocked the new El Mercado store with Mexican-themed and El Toro souvenir items, the landscape department planted dozens of tropical plants and shrubs to beautify the area, maintenance and ride operations tested and trained on Tango, the new family ride, and readied Rolling Thunder for its re-opening this season. Maintenance and park services cleaned up and washed away all the winter and construction residue, and left the newly-poured concrete bright and clean. Food service continues to work toward the opening of the newly-themed La Cocina restaurant.
The construction, maintenance and engineering departments continue to work toward the testing of El Toro, in preparation for the ride's grand opening...coming soon!
