Title: Coaster Celebration 2006!
Post by: DianaR on December 28, 2005, 01:58:39 PM
The Date: June 17th!

http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/ShowsAndEvents/index.html

I didn't see this posted yet and, I know it is quite a few months away but, I want everyone here to keep it in mind because we would like to try and plan some things to kill the non ERT time. All ideas/suggestions are welcomed and, would be appreciated!

I will most likely be there. I have the car, I have the cash. What's stopping me? Nothing. I will finally get to meet everyone at once!

I'll be there. I'll have to put in a vacation request though.

I'll be there
- food
- 2 Hours ERT on toro
- Discount for season pass holders

I didn't go last year as they wanted around $50 and I was already on Ka around 65 times along with a few others on this site weeks before .
But I'm not missing a chance to ride Toro for 2 hours
also did I mention Food.
see ya in line I'm the one in the blue shirt in my Avatar front seat

I went last year and it was a blast. The Nitro ERT at night was amazing, even if I did lose my keys and cell phone, and everyone was waiting in line for KK during the morning ERT so we went off and rode everything else alone since we already had enough of KK during the commercial.

Medusa, only people on the train
RMT only people
RT I was alone on one side and jglonek alone on the other. We really did race each other.

Great pics
yes I see some familier faces on that train
I think I'm on the right 3rd from the back blue shirt first pic

those 2 days are the best times I ever had in riding coasters (or at least the most intense rides) in being a ACE member for the last 21 years

I have a few here.

Thanks for sharing those pics

I was soooo bummed that I couldn't be there for the shoot becuase I couldn't be 100% sure on 2 consecutive days.

It would figure that we ended up doing the GK shoot anyway on the last day of Ka's shoot (it was fun watching that chopper).

Back on topic... I plan to be there :)

All of us really need to try hard to support this event by being there.  I know its on the verge of disappearing (again) so lets show them how much we appreciate it!

I am with you Wade, part of me wanted to kick myself for choosing the GK commercial instead but, I wanted my kids to take the oppertunity to earn their own season passes and, experience something cool in their young age. I almost always put my kids before myself but, I also knew I'd get my share on media day :)

Wade is correct, please get as many people as you can to partake in Coaster Celebration. Attendance is important in keeping this gift from the park returning every year. :)

I  WILL be there this year 100%
I will try to bring some friends who have not even been to the Park in more then 10 years.
I keep telling them about these World record rides  they don't know what they are missing.
I'm a ACE member  how did you others get invited for the Ka shoot  ?

I will be there and yes they will have to kick me off the ride also

Note: I called the phone # for this event and they are closed till 1-3-06
anyone know details other then what is posted on the web  ?

Besides ACE, there were limited "by invite only" guests at the shoot.  The majority of which got in through this site

I'll likely be a ACE member before CC2006 as well.

As for the details, they tend to get drawn up in the week or 2 before the event.  This has a lot to do with how many people register, the new ride opening, etc. :)

Ughh, couldn't it be one week later?  That's my finals, although hopefully I'll be exempt from all, I think I'm gonna need to take two.  I might have not been able to anyway, but it was so awesome last year on Nitro at night and Rolling Thunder racing.  I'd love to do the event again, especially with something to fill up the empty part of the day.

Hopefully I will be able to go, I was unable to attend last year.

It is going to be awesome to have a majority of the people from the site at the park hanging out for the day. I can't wait for it :)

Hopefully we can tie in something we did with central last year at this years CC ;).  Bri and I from ECC were on Medusa during last year's ERT all along ;(.  And it broke down with us on the breaks...good times.  Hopefully KK will be squeezed into this ERT as well.

Lori and I were there last year and we'll be there again this year!  Rolling Thunder is her absolute favorite coaster so with El Toro along side, we'll have a blast again.

Good idea Di trying to plan something mid-day.  Last year, we ended up just walking around aimlessly waiting for night ERT.

We may be there.

Were actually re-thinking our 2006 plans right now. Well, for one we may not be in CA in a few months and second since Josh isn't 54" yet (and still a little timid when it comes to BIG coasters) we are thinking that SFGADV may not be the best park for this year. They don't really have anything that is 48".

I was not there last year but do they give out name tags ?
I know it's kind of corney but at some ERT or ACE events they do.
I know at the Feb. Eastcoaster event in Allentown (indoor event) they show the name and town on the tag.
It helps sometimes with sparking up a conversation and seeing that you only live a few miles from another attendee and sometime surprised that someone came from Florida or England.
I will bring at least 5 people or maybe more.

Post by: CoasterPete on December 29, 2005, 01:55:45 PM
I actually like the nametag idea.  It's definately something possibly that all of us here could use for the day, not only to identify each of us by name but also association with Gadv Updates.

Pete

Post by: DianaR on December 29, 2005, 02:05:06 PM
Hmm, I think a nametag/sticker with GadvGuide on it for you to write your name on is a good possibility. :)  The one thing we don't want to do is force anyone who doesn't like the idea of sharing their personal identity, to do so. That being said, we can let everyone PM the mods for a nametag if they want to do this when the begining of May, end of April rolls around.

or a blank name tag at time of arrival. (unless someone had the time to do all this before hand ) ?
we could fill out ourselves  wear them as we like or if at all or at least during ERT times,  I would wear mine at the least during arrival, ERT and Lunch times.

At ACE events I been to in the past  the names came on the tags already but they already had our registration info etc.
Mine would read:
Tom (last name) AKA PCMAN
Sicklerville  NJ

You know I am going to look into getting official tags that you can hold onto and use whenever. Maybe like have a rollercoaster Picture and your screenname can be added to them. I know my boss would probably let me use the name maker at work. I'd just need the actual blank tags and the coaster pics.. Time for me to do some internet searching :)

Actually! I'm taking a trip to the craft store where I am sure I'll find exactly what I'm looking for!

Post by: WadeJ on December 29, 2005, 02:22:55 PM
I think what pcman may be asking is if Gadv is supplying or has supplied name tags.  This works for me if its just us.  But perhaps the park should be making tags for everybody that attends CC.

I agree, it makes it easier to strike up a conversation while in line, etc.

Post by: DianaR on December 29, 2005, 02:28:32 PM
The park doesn't but, I have seen buttons from ACE and other groups that have a logo and the member's screenname's on them. I'd like one to wear any time I go to meet someone I haven't met in person. If stickers or buttons aren't good there is also Lanyards but, they'd have to be tucked in a shirt or pocket and could get ruined quick that way.  :?

http://www.nametagsource.com/

plastic clip on or safty pin tags are around .39 each and up
I have about 500 self stick labels but are very thin  about 1" x 5"  but are very small
I also have other self stick lables in the 3x4 size  I can offer up but selfstick get wet fall off etc.

yes that is what I was asking if the park gave out tags  which I don't think they did
I can see it now  all the pictures from the event  and onride footage on the web the day after.
ok got to get back to work

I say custom tshirts. I actually would be willing to make a tshirt with a new guide logo on the back and your name/username on the front. I have all the equipment I need, I would just need to figure out a price for the tshirts. They last through the wash too so they could be worn whenever we all meet somewhere.

i say we sport duct tape name tags.  Anyone wearing a crazy colored tape strip on thier front, or back, surely is visable from a distance.  I know if you have some tape on your back ill approach you and introcude myself!

I have plenty of tape

Or I can just bring a sharpie and write our names on our Forehead
easy to see and make you look someone in the eye when talking with them

on second thought  na

Take electrical take and spell out your name with it.  If you like cursive though, it will be a challange.  We can make giant hats with our name on them instead of having sharpie on our foreheads all day long.

I will try to be there, but it's just too early to tell.

I have some ideas while waiting it out. What about a scavenger hunt? I'm always up for one of those. For example, you would get a clue, and you would have to figure it out to find a boz near an attraction, stall, ride, whatever. The first one to collect a few stickers or something and back to the fountain wins. If the clues are hard, it could easily take an hour or so. For example, you could say "A superhero" Now, you would think Batman or Superman, but the clue would be hidden in the Daily News Shop at SUF's exit. Aha, so it can be tricky! I personally think it would be a lot of fun as long with we abide to park rules.

We could also have a Midway Games Tourney :D  I know how you all would love that! (probably the hardest games to win) Also, we could have a good old GAdv trivia contest. You can take those into consideration. I look forward to CC, and I hope I can go!

Twisted won... hands down, he had everybody else beat.  Were going to try to not discuss much of the old hunt though because were hoping much of it will be reused at CC2006.

I'm not sure what area you are from but keep in mind that many members on here might be willing to help you out with transportation ;)

You could only charge for the price of gas and in Jersey its nothing compared to New York. I swear the state line of Jersey to New York is a difference of 40-50 cents in gas prices.

By the way, how does Coaster Celebration work? ERT in morning and at night and regular operating day in between?

I say we all make our own shirt With our Screen Names on the fron and back with GADVupdats printed underneath. Designed by ourselves for everytime we go to the park and for cc. We add on to it. So we can tell who everyone is, and advertise the site for more members. its cheaper and it saves the trouble of knowing how many to get and its what, $2 a lain white shirt.

Post by: blazzinmatt on December 31, 2005, 01:06:16 PM
Well I think that making the shirts for the guide will advertise the sites more and most people will buy a shirt which will help pay for the site and make it that much better. I think Wade and the rest of the Admins have been doing one hell of a job keeping up the site and updates and stuff and all the sites in the guide deserve a little money. The money will help make the site stay up and active and looking great.

Since we don't expect everybody to have the money for a shirt (esp. the young guys and gals), we'll do the best we can to make sure that EVERYBODY that wants one, gets one :)

Of course, we still need to finish the design....

Now please get back on topic lol

I'll deffinitly be at CC again.  I attended the last 2 that were held, and they were both great, and with El Toro I can just see better things.  I remember the line for KK at the begining of last years when it wasnt yet open and me and Twisted went to Medusa and that was completly empty.  3 Front row rides and 3 back row then heading back over to get KK just as it started up...just great.  11 Nitro rides at night with Coastin' Steve in our row...fun times.

I can't wait till this years, more friends, more fun, more coasters!

The reason I didn't go last year was because of the driving issue. My parents didnt wanna drive me out to the park and they said I couldnt go. But as for now I can drive to Jersey and have done so, so I will be able to visit CC this year and meet everyone :-D
Title: Coaster Celebration 2006!
Post by: sfgadvfreak on December 31, 2005, 08:47:09 PM
Yup.  Last year I thikn I just got a ride to Twisted's house and just went from there....but this year I can drive so I'm sure I'll be able to take anyone that's near me as long as I meet them beforehand
Title: Coaster Celebration 2006!
Post by: blazzinmatt on December 31, 2005, 08:51:11 PM
Well I am in Staten Island so I am sure that driving people will not be as useful as those who live in Jersey, but I am sure if someone needs a ride I will be able to accomodate them. I can't wait until CC to see everyone and we will definitely have a great day.

BTW 100 posts! :)

The meeting spot for us has been right near rolling thunder.. for pretty much as long as i remember being a part of any boards.  If we were to have a meeting spot.. it would be there!

Haha...I think I met everyone I know from any forums for the first time in front of RT.  That was about 4 years ago now...wow.  I'm looking forward to getting my 3rd CC under my belt.

This will be my first CC and my first time meeting everyone from the forums. It should definitely be an awesome experience.

As of right now I plan on attending... but with me trying to find a new job right now, I can't promise anything until the time comes.

It would be really nice if CC attendees got a discount price on QBot's that day, that would make it like ERT all day.

The ERT sessions are hard for me to deicde what would be better.. I like Nitro a lot more at night, but night rides on Ka, El Toro, and RT would be just as good... desicions, desicions... I guess I'll just have to wait and see what the park decides.  8)

As for shirts, I'm game for whatever... maybe we can get it to have the site name and Coaster Celebration '06 on it too?

Thanks for the heads up.

Hopefully this isn't because of something with El Toro

Hopefully it is not because of ET... unless of course they are moving it earlier :D

Well, from what I'm reading on rec.roller-coaster, it may be because of Cedar Point!

Coastermania at CP is also on June 3rd, so the move may be so that people who want to go to both parks will be able to.

I personally don't believe it, but it's a nice thought to entertain.

The event at CP  is a big event and has been going on for over 10 years.and it's a ACE event not a public event like Six flags will be.
It's that they may want the ACE reps and others there (GrtAdv)

I will be asking these questions this Saturday at Eastcoaster event.
Title: Coaster Celebration 2006!
Post by: WadeJ on January 31, 2006, 09:57:47 AM
That would be a good question to ask.  I have a feeling that Gadv is looking for some serious backing by the enthusiast community on this ride.  In fact, IMO, the last coaster at Gadv that REALLY interested the enthusiast world was probably Nitro back in 2001 so it has been a while.

It would seem to make sense to make sure this event is available to ACE.

Post by: Cyclonic on January 31, 2006, 11:54:12 AM
If I am not mistaken (not looking it up right now), the CP event is Coastermania, which is a park sponsered event, not an ACE event.

Ether way, I think it is a good idea to push it off a week to allow those who would travel to do both.  I think they really were hurt last year when Putz had his event at Dorney on the same day as CC.  Alot of folks that would have done both instead had to choose.

^ Feh..

The Dragster and Millie ERT should be at night, with the Gemini and Blue Streak in the morning. I mean, what's better than night rides on MF and TTD?

When I was at CP, it felt like I had three days of Gemini/Magnum ERT

I dont get it, CP has TTD and MF ERT in the morning.

Last year, GADV had ERT on Kingda Ka in the morning! I dont know why they wouldn't want it at night...

I'm at Eastcoaster as I write this
The date is June 17th  Saturday
There are flyers and Kristen  also mentioned that El Toro should open late Spring  no date yet.
She also had a cool  Video of construction  from start to topping off
it shown a lot.
She was very excited out the new CEO and talked about the experience that Six Flags wants everyone to have

Well, we were just going to spend a relaxing week in Pigeon Forge, TN with a little time at Dollywood.  We're going to get one of those honeymoon cabins in the mountains with a jacuzzi inside and a hot tub on the deck.  However, after Eastcoaster, I just have to get to Holiday World and Beech Bend so I think we're going to do a bit of driving to squeeze them in as well.

I have not been at the last years or any other past coaster celebration .
Does this one get crowed as this is open to the general public and it's on a Saturday.

I know there will be ERT  from 8 to 9:30am  then again late at night
and the buffet around dinner time.

thanks

I was there last year on the day of Coaster Celebration, but I didn't register for it. During the day it was a normal spring Saturday, but at night it got real empty so the ERT will probaly be really good in the morning and at night.

Post by: Bubba Z on March 02, 2006, 01:38:20 PM
Last year I only made the morning portion of it due to work.  I basically paid for parking, breakfast and a front row ride on Kingda Ka.  Now if you didn't wait for the front you could have easily gotten three laps in.  This year I plan to stay the whole day instead of just 2 hours.

With that said.  No, I didn't find the morning ERT that busy.
Title: Coaster Celebration 2006!
Post by: Nozzy on March 02, 2006, 02:18:06 PM
I was there all day.
They had donuts and little cups of juice for breakfast.  Morning ERT was pretty empty, but Kingda Ka was testing for about 45 minutes into the period.  I waited for it to open and wound up getting one front row ride at about 9:59, but the other morning ERT still had no crowds because the GP just mobbed Kingda Ka.  Rolling Thunder was racing that day too.
It then was a normal day until about 4 or 5 I think, when the buffet opened.  It was chicken with nachos and cheese if I remember correctly.  They had a raffle for merchandise and everyone got a Kingda Ka keychain.  Nighttime ERT started right at 8(attendent checked for wristbands at the entrance of the ride) and they had lights on for Skull Mountain.  Nitro had 3 trains so everyone could reride unless you wanted the front or something.  I stayed on for about a half hour.
I don't remember the daytime being particularly crowded, but it was in May last year as opposed to mid-June this year.

hmm.. that's a very good point, I guess I can't use the "it's my birthday too" excuse ;)  I knew that having a niece and nephew on my birthday would have it's drawbacks... it's a good thing they're both so dang cute  :)

It is possible to come home during the break and go back lol

I know I had to do that one year.

Anyway, here are links the Coaster Celebration flyers.  Keep in mind that Kingda Ka WILL be added to the schedule.  These are early versions of the document and it will be updated at some point.  For now, this will still work to get you signed up :).

I want to attend but  the cost is a little unfair to season pass holders.
I'm not cheap but

- I just paid $40 for a parking pass and now I have to pay for parking again
- I just paid for a season pass
- Processing fee ??
I only been to the park once this season

I never did attend this event in the past and still debating on this year.
I will be going to Dorney's event (only $21) that includes ERT lunch etc. and I don't have a season pass for Dorney.
I'm a member of many other coaster clubs and this one event is the most costly.
But seeing that El Ttoro will be open I may be going this year.

Just to clear things up for you, if you have a parking pass, you DO NOT have to pay for parking.

$35 for season pass holders is not unfair, nearly all events charge something for pass holders.  The fee is basically because you are renting the rides for the hours of the ERT, and believe me, it costs a whole lot more to run those rides then you (or the collective whole for that matter) are paying, so you are getting a deal there.
Title: Coaster Celebration 2006!
Post by: PcMan on April 28, 2006, 11:33:02 AM
Yes that is fair.  I was just mostly talking about the parking since I did just buy a pass.

One person says it's included, another person says it's not, so if I have to pay in advance. There is no selection on the form for NOT PAYING the parking fee.
Title: Coaster Celebration 2006!
Post by: Cyclonic on April 28, 2006, 11:49:51 AM
Do not pay for it in advance.  When you get to the gate that morning, just show your parking pass like you would on any operating day.  I have gone to this event for several years now, and that is how it is done.

No On-Site registration, but people have reported that you can still register by phone. Call the park and ask!

Great news, word is the park has flipped the ERT schedule.  The Nitro side of the park is now on the morning ERT, and KK and El Toro will be on the night time ERT.

While I love Nitro at night, I can't wait for ET and KK night rides.
