The cable.  And you'd think Cedar Fair would learn after Dragster did the exact same thing.

This is always my greatest fear getting on these launch coasters!

Btw- Not sure if people are REALLY looking at the video but on the way back down, the train must have run over either the cable or the catch car because holy crap the seat for the poor kid on the left gets wrenched forward off the frame.  That is FREAKING SCARY.  At first I as all annoyed at the "back pain" mentioning in the article since after all, the ride was just like any other roll back; with the addition of cable shards.  But the back pain was likely from being slapped by your own seat!

Two things crossed my mind on this:

If this were Kingda Ka or any other Intamin with OTSR's, the injuries would have likely been much worse IMO.  The kid was able to duck down and cover his face through much of the debris being thrown and then when the seat was forced forward, he wasn't crushed by the OTSR.

Anyone know if Ka was closed today?

And those park guests should go play the lottery because they are VERY lucky to have so few injuries!

Wow!  Even more amazing is that this video got out.
My how things have changed. No secrets anymore.

It looks like the left seat is bent on the way up too.
Hold your cursor on the head rest and you can see it change after whatever happens.
And then it is bent even more on the way back down.
Very lucky indeed!!

I wan't to know which way the cable snapped and all that. A laceration to the leg is crazy.

I do believe if TTD is still running, there will be no problem with Xcelerator getting back up and running.

The cable was more than likely stressed and may have had some fractures in the strands. After all if we have learned anything from all the shows on Discovery & Science channel, the cable acts like a rubber band and expands and contracts. Like everyone else is saying, Accidents do happen. It is unfortunate, but things do happen.

Another question, was it the same cable manufacturer used as the SFKK drop tower incident? And yes sros, you are completely right with the elasticity of the steel cable, but you would think it might be worth the extra money and get a cable with a higher factory of safety.

Don't know, Does Knott's have the money to get the stronger cable? And don't they replace the cables on the launch rides like every 4-5 months?

What if they already had a cable with a higher safety rating? It's hard to tell these things. More than likely, some investigations will be done as to the durability of the type and size of cable used. All I know is that when you do look at the video, the riders were hit with a large amount of shrapnel which was probably hot to begin with because of the launching. I wouldn't be surprised if some people got minor burns from the shrapnel also.

If the factor of safety was higher in the cable they used, it takes into the account of the cable snapping such as this.

Could be the wear and tear. No one will know this until the investigation comes through (if there's one)
