Title: Live Green Lantern Camera!
Post by: jglonek on February 10, 2011, 11:18:02 AM
The park has posted a live Green Lantern construction camera (http://www.sixflags.com/greatAdventure/footerNav/greenlanternconstruction.aspx) on their official website!

As of this writing I'm mesmerized at the crane moving back and forth.

I'm surprised that chang had the old B&M kicker drop before the ride really starts... I never noticed it until now.

You really feel it in the back row.

Like how Bizarro and Batman have that little flat part post-lift but pre-drop.

There are wooden coasters that do that too, such as Big Dipper at Camden Park or Son of Beast at Kings Island....

Wikipedia has a background on it, according to the article B&M had it used on all their coasters except the vertical drop coasters and clones before the 1999 season, where Apollo's, Raging Bull, Medusa,  Afterburn, and the Georgia Scorcher all had one. The batman invert clones all have them and so do the medusa copies (scream and medusa @ sfdk). The only coaster built that doesn't follow this is the Batman floorless in SFne, which appears to be a scorcher copy built to run floorless trains. B&M apparently used the kicker as a stress reliever on the lift chain so it could last longer.

Also on the page it shows Alton Tower's John Wardley asking Walter Bolliger "What if the ride stalls out?" Spawning one of my favorite quotes "Our Coasters never stall. They work perfectly the first time."

Was there an opening date for this thing? I'm starting to think it won't be done before I move to Florida in late May

That's what I figured a kicker drop was, I just assumed B&M used them on all their coasters (besides flying) with curved drops. The Batman floorless at SFNE does this doesn't it?

I said that,  it is the only coaster that doesn't conform to their building pattern. But it does look a lot like a Georgia Scorcher clone.

Jerry, I feel the same way. I hope they can make great progress over next week because the weather is supposed to be gorgeous, 45 degrees and little weather qualifies as gorgeous after the last couple of weeks.

Superman looks really faded in that picture.

So does the freshly painted Chang. I think it's just the bad image quality.

This GL will fit great in this park.  As for the Cam, why is it  turned away from the site, almost every day? I know there's no one at the park besides the construction works but someone should control this thing.

We did just have a pretty strong storm roll through with a lot of wind. It could have turned it.

It was that way for the last three days. If you could find a way to get it back in portion that would be awesome. Thanks.

I'm sure they are working on it. They stated on the park's Facebook page that they were having some issues with it.

We really can't do much since we have no affiliation with the park.
