Title: Goodbye open internet?
Post by: rjholla2003 on April 26, 2006, 11:35:38 AM
The internet as we know it is in danger.  TODAY(!) congress is having a hearing in which control of the internet may be given away to the major telecommunication companies, many of which have stated that they will give preferential treatment to sites that pay them hefty fees.  Sites like this that you visit every day are in danger because of this possible legisiation.  It is better late than never, make your voices heard.

Well that just stinks! (Signs Name) Even though I don't normally believe in Internet Petitions, when the topic is the Internet, maybe it will have an effect.

The amendment, offered by Representative Ed Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat, would have prohibited broadband carriers from impairing or blocking competing Web content and services.

Wait? I'm agreeing with Markey? OTSR's and Internet for everyone!

I'm not really a believer in in internet petitions either, but I figured that I may as well give this one a shot.  I've seen Care2 make a difference in some New Orleans stuff, so who knows.
