I know this is way out of this season but what roller coaster do you think will be gone next?
Scream machine is my guess
-
LOL. I'll leave this be. ;)
-
I'm picturing Dan's face turning bright red with steam coming out of his ears LOL
If were talking major rides, I may have to agree.
-
If it wasn't for Bizarro, I would believe Medusa...
But most likely Fling
-
LOL. I'll leave this be. ;)
Me too, I don't wanna wish any of them away. Scream Machine isn't going anywhere soon. Its reliable and its a staple of the park and our first ride that really put Great Adventure on the map.
-
I say we wait for good old mr.spider of doom. But in my opinion i think Blackbeard or Buccaneer. Both seem to be wearing down alot without much care being taken to help fix them up.
-
I hope it is not either one kingdakafan as both are good ride for littler guests to ride . One thing that SFGADV is missing is flat rides and smaller rides for the middle height range kids . Which happen to ride both of the rides you mentioned . I say get rid of nothing and add more flats .
-
I personally don't want these rides to go, but they are getting pretty run down. But I agree, they do need more flats. Preferably a water ride.
-
"Usually" what does in a ride is the cost of maintaining it. Popularity probably comes in second. Gasm is in both realms unfortunately.
With that said, as far as coasters go, I could also see superman going. It would be a very easy ride to rip out and relocate.
-
Like Dainan, I was counting Medusa out for a while. I'm still not counting Houdini, Musik Express and Autobahn down for the count.
-

Tell that to Great America. ;)
-
It seems superman breaks alot this season. Opening day it broke on the lift till 2nd day. I got stuck on it saturday when the ride ended and it came back to the station and wouldn't swing back down.. I think it had similar issues the other weekends I was there too. I'd rather they rip out GASM since it's been unpopular for years. Same with Rolling Thunder. I don't go on either enough to see them break down though since they both give me headaches after a couple rides in a row. I think GASM takes up enough empty space to put new coaster and a few flat rides. Rolling Thunder would probably cost to much to take apart.
-
I hope they don't get rid of Rolling Thunder, it is a Classic Racer and there are not too many of them left in the World. I would love to see new Train's and a Re-Tracking, and the with Park's recent mindset of restoring the Classic's, I could see it happening. And how would El-Toro be without Rolling Thunder to cross over? Scream Machine I could see being sold for Scrap, and that is Prime Real Estate in the Park, it is a very visible spot and anything new there would be a big draw.
-
Rolling thunder isn't going anywhere. I agree. At this point I could see it getting more of a REAL rehab rather than being ripped out.
Gasm has a lot of constant work that costs far more to keep up with than RT.
Now how about Sky Ride? I'm honestly extremely surprised they still have it!
-
Yeah, the Skyride is the real shocker. Hardly any parks still have them and Great Adventure isn't exactly the one you'd expect to still have one. Even Disney got rid of theirs for crying out loud.
-
I personally love gasm, it was the first looping coaster I went on. Sure, it has its downsides (being bumpy) but it is still a great ride. You can't beat those double loops!
-
I think that rolling thunder should go back to raceing and never mind that make one side go backwards again . NOW that alone would draw me in to ride it a lot more then I do now .
-
I had a question about rolling thunder, maybe someone can answer. When it was new in the 70s/80s, did it make that same high pitched scraping whine noise when it turns out of the station to the lift hill and when it does the last turn into the station? The high pitch sound toward the end of last season was my only problem with the ride, I'm cool with shaking and how it feels like it flies off the tracks.
GASM takes up a lot of perfectly usable land since nothing can was inside it’s area. I wondered why it was still there. I didn't know it's history till this year.. Most outsiders that go to SFGA probably don't know it's history either. GASM Rehab such as new trains, paint and brakes might be enough to revive it. It’s the only ride I must lean my head forward the entire time and stop riding after a couple because my head hurts for the rest of the day.
-
Rolling Thunder Raced just about all last Season during the "Peak" month's. It will again this Season around the end of June until the end of August. It always made the "squealing" sound at the turn around before the Brake Run, but it has gotten worse the last few years.
-
Rt has done that for as long as I can remember. For various reasons, they do not lubricate the track which is partly why this happens. Honestly, that doesn't bother me anywhere close to as much as the seatbelts.
IMO, Gasm was as good as gone had they built the hotel expansion in what was the season pass parking lot. That area was "supposed" to be completely different ... Think animal kingdom lodge, and I think gasm would have been in the way for a wide array of reasons. I'm sad the hotel wasn't built but I'm happy gasm is still here as its one of my favorites. Plus, I think they lucked out by noy building the hotel anyway with the current economy.
-
It's funny to look at but on the plans they drew Kingda Ka, Supes and Rolling Thunder, but left out Gasm. However it still says Existing GASM and it sits inside the fence line. So who knows if it really would have stayed or not. The pool area would have been fun to watch Kingda ka launch.
I would also have to agree a little, that a 500 room hotel would have been tough to sell out every day. It was a pretty design tho.
-
Hey Jimmy, welcome to the site. Here's a video of Rolling Thunder racing in 1984. Although I don't condone on-ride videos or photography, this is of historical significance. It shows Coaster 2 (left side) going backwards, aka Rednuht Gnillor. You'll see Sarajevo Bobsled if you don't blink and a few other rides that were at some point, the next to go. ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLSHl0uUw9w#noexternalembed=1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLSHl0uUw9w#noexternalembed=1)
RT will screech from time to time on a dry, hot day like all woodies. This one has a prolonged screech because of the lack of lubrication anywhere on the track. The ride uses an older style of brake that relies on friction for the trains come to a safe stop and any moisture on the track can prevent the trains from properly stopping in the station. (They love us when we mention this.) ;) There is also an environmental impact.
Older coasters rarely have problems as they don't have much in the lines of technology or much that could go wrong.

Didn't they put on new axles and wheels along with some sort of suspension for last season?
-
The music in the Rolling Thunder video made me feel like I was either in a shopping mall or watching a Chris Isaac video.
-
^ lol. I'm putting in the Isaac c.d. tonight and thinking of
you your post ::)
-
great video, I never been there when they raced even in past seasons, since I always go when it's slower for more reride times. Cool to see lightnin' loops in the video.
-

Sweeeeet ;)
-
Wait the left side rolling thunder goes backwards!?
-
Wait the left side rolling thunder goes backwards!?
Many years ago it did . It NO LONGER does . Though I am sure there are many of us that remamber it and would like to see it happen again ...
-
First of all, the screeching isn't due to no replacements as much as old coasters skid. In a way, its the same thing. Yes, it is also the oldie style braking system. Since Rolling Thunder is actually painful (due to skidding over the 20 years)now I say that it is first to go. To wrap it up, the screeching in the 80s was from the brakes but now skidding is also a problem. In abput 15 years El Toro will due the same, and it will hurt!
-
El Toro will not nearly need as much maintenance brake wise as Rolling Thunder since it uses magnetic fins to slow its entry into the brake run making for a much easier stop and less frictional wear on the brake pads themselves.
-

El Toro is also Manufactured completely differently from Rolling Thunder.
-
Rolling Thunder is an entirely different animal. IMO it's only a matter of time until the skid brakes are replaced with magnetic and/or squeeze brakes. Once this happens, "failing the skid test" won't be an issue and the ride may actually be allowed to run faster (lubed track).

Alright I agree. With new technology these days wood coasters would be much smoother and faster. But come on, RT is pretty rough!
-
It really isn't. It squeals a lot, but I wouldn't call it rough. Kingda Ka is worse.
-
RT is jolty, not rough. If you want rough, ride a Vekoma or Colossus at Magic Mountain.
-
or the great nor easter.
-
....which is a Vekoma.
-
Or mind eraser at sfa - which is also a vekoma - which is an slc that is 10 times more brutal than nor' easter lol
-
which unfortunately is the only steel coaster to ever work consistently at SFA
-
Gotta say, for being a rough ride, I have never really seen a Vekoma shut down anywhere I go.
-
or the great nor easter.
That was my first ride... its hurts alot more with the old restraints!!!
-

LIKE I SAID: The squelling is the sound of the skidding, it just appeats normal. Thats final!
-
Oh,
and do you people like RT's new restaints or the old ones. So far my favorite ride's restraint is Bizzaro's shouldar/seatbelt syle. But I think TDKC has comfortable ones too.
-
Gotta say, for being a rough ride, I have never really seen a Vekoma shut down anywhere I go.
I have ..... Great Nor Easter was down for like an hour ..... stuck on the lift hill. =)
-
Kind of off topic but is Two Face at SFA closed?
-
^^ yeah, they took it down.
-
What kind of ride was two face?
-
It is the same lay-out as a boomerang. But it's inverted. I've never been on one, but even though they are made by vekoma apparently they are pretty good. I say they because there is 3 others, 2 in america.
Kings Island, and California's great adventure. Both named Invertigo.
http://www.rcdb.com/545.htm?p=520 (http://www.rcdb.com/545.htm?p=520)
-
It looks like a short ride.
-
Honestly, if SFGA is building something new, RT is going. Even though it's one of GA's oldest rides it barely draws a crowd. Take Busch Gardens for example. The Big Bad Wolf was one of their premier rides in the 80's. But they're tearing it down on Labor day. Which explains all the ACE members flocking down there this summer. I don't know what GA will do, but if RT is going I think they should give some life before it leaves.
-
Rolling Thunder isn't going anywhere. The ride is a staple of the park and considered family friendly with the low height requirement. Add in the amount of work they've done in recent years, the fact that nothing technically is wrong with it and the fact that it interacts as part of El Toro, I'd say there is nothing to worry about. Personally, I have a feeling we'll be seeing it get even more TLC in the coming years just like we have with many buildings and other older rides such as the carousel.
The Big Bad Wolf was more an issue with parts not being available and the excessive costs to keep it running. Combine that with lower ridership and you have a problem. RT has neither issue.
-
The only thing rolling thunder needs is polyurethane wheels!
-
Three words Spider of DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
-
RT will outlast Kingda Ka. It already has lived a longer life than Lightnin' Loops, Shockwave, Viper and Chiller. It will most likely stay longer than SUF too.
-
Three words Spider of DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
If we do see the Spider of Doom this year, I am willing to bet its on something that will get redone. I don't forsee anything being removed because really, its been a good season.
-
If there is a next ride to go I would have to say Scream Machine.
-
RT will outlast Kingda Ka. It already has lived a longer life than Lightnin' Loops, Shockwave, Viper and Chiller. It will most likely stay longer than SUF too.
Lightin' loops was removed because people died on it. It had too much negative publicity. Viper was too much to upkeep in its late years. Shockwave was a very rough ride, and the chiller was like a prototypical design that had a lot of problems with valleying and the LIM's. Rolling thunder had a valleying problem late last year, but they seemed to fix it
-
Is it a possibility that skull mountain will be removed?
-
^ doubt it
-
I honestly don't see any furthur attention to Skull Mountain for another 10 years. :) As for SUF, if anything, although I doubt it, would be rotated to another park. Rolling thunder is not going to see much but the general rehab and painting job. And the Scream Machine, well I just have no clue. O0 ;) Lol
-
SUF will stay just because its a line eater.
-
Actually, I'm split 50/50 on SUF and GASM. Supes is a prime canidate for the ride rotation program due to its placement on flat ground in the parking lot. GASM simply due to maint. cost and ridership. Personally, I've decided to give the edge to supes. And honestly, I don't care lol.
-
SUF will stay just because its a line eater.
Clint , I'm confused ? That queue never moves. Nitro is true B&M people eater, not a flying sit on the break run coaster.
-
Yup, SUF only has a huge line because it takes forever to load. Although I'd say it is still popular which is why I would think it my be rotated elsewhere.
-
SUF is running in its 7th season. Viper had 1 hour long waits in 2002. It's still "new" to people as they've only ridden it 5 or 6 times. Give it time. It's just something else to do.
-
That and SUF is considered "unique" for the atlantic coast area
-
its considered unique everywhere else too!
-
SUF will stay just because its a line eater.
Clint , I'm confused ? That queue never moves. Nitro is true B&M people eater, not a flying sit on the break run coaster.
I should rephrase. It rounds up alot of people and just keeps them there.
-
SUF will stay just because its a line eater.

Behemoth is the ultamite in B&M Line Eaters.. You never stop walking while in line when all 3 trains are running.
-
Wouldnt it be cool if big bad wolf came to great adventure?
-
Idk!
-
yes that would be freakin awsome!!!
-
But will it?No.
-
No because we don't have the terrain to make it as cool...and we don't need a ride that has reached the end of it's service life. I like rides where parts are available.
-
Hence being one of the reasons why Chiller was sold off.
-
wait, sold off? so its going to another park?
-
It could. If I recall correctly, it was purchased by a holding company.
-
so its going to be rebuilt? if so, please give a WOOT WOOT!
-
Would they rename it?
-
would they retheme it?
-
Last I heard about Chiller, it was sitting in the field of an abandoned farm doing nothing but rusting. If it was purchased by a holding company, do not count on it coming back as the rumor I heard was that it was going to be recycled steel.
-
NO! They can't do that. That's terrible. What they should let you do is buy a piece on E-bay!
-
I guess that's good. You can pretend you're the park and use it as a lawn ornament. Or maybe a paper weight, lol.
-
Or an endless money pit? All three options were tested. :)
-
yea the chiller doesn't deserve the fate thats it is going to have
-
every coaster deserves a second chance!
-
It got plenty of chances to live. Plus the fates have been dealt already. Haven't you guys been reading?
-
Yes, considering it outlasted Spinnaker, Time Warp, Jump, and a countless number of older rides, which had more uptime in their final season than Batman Chiller had in its entire life span, I'd say Chiller had enough chances to the point where one could be drawn to the conclusion that fixing Chiller was someone's sexual fetish. It even had two redesigns!
-
Chiller Will not come back is my guess.
-
I know this sounds wierd, but the coaster can't help that its a lemon. Its not the chiller's fault. It's GA's for not fixing what needed to be fixed int the first place: Trains, brakes, lims, and track. They waited too long. And closing it doesn't do much.
-
Ummmmm, no. It's Premier Ride's fault for engineering a lemon!
-
I 100% agree withh Wade.
-

Waited too long? They spent TEN YEARS doing nothing BUT fixing it! Let's not forget that it opened for literally hours in 97 before it went down for the rest of that season.

-
Maybe this video I found will change your guys minds.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWgX5WSbLeA#noexternalembed&hl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWgX5WSbLeA#noexternalembed&hl)
So Sad.
-
I see nothing...
Nevermind, fixed. And that doesn't erase 10 years of unreliability. Sorry!
-
oh is saw that video, good, but sad
-
I miss Chiller...:(
-
i miss it too. but like rj said. 10 years of reliability issues, that's just too long
-

Two? Are you referring to the G-Rolls and the restraint designs?
-
I think he is. Those are the only two that I know happened to the chiller
-
the LIMs had problems too
-
Yes as you stated before.
-
Yea, I'm just clearing it up.
-
Bring back Chiller!!!!!! :D
-
Yeah, NOW!!
-
I think this could be a possibility for next year. If they won't tear RT down, they might retrack it. Lately, it's been getting so rough its becoming a ball breaker for people. I think if they retrack it, it might get some more attention from people wanting to ride it. Because the last time I went to SFGA, There were tourists asking the regulars about RT and they were telling them, "if you want to lose your manhood, then you should ride it." Anyone else think it should be a good idea to retrack RT?
-
It's been getting better over the years. I actually consider the left side "rideable" this season. That's quite a leap from the consistent jackhammering it did to your back just last season.
-
Yes, but the right is open for the majority of of the year, compaired to the left
-
Fright Fest is starting soon. And one of the major things with Fright Fest is the Big Black Widow. Now if anyone who's a fright fest regular for the past few years, you've probably noticed that the Ride with the spider on it will not be with the park the next year. The chaos ride was the first with the spider on it. A few other rides had the spider on it too (The Chiller, the most recognizable). If I'm thinking right (I might not be), A ride could get the Widow on it this year. It doesn't have to be a coaster, it could be a flat ride.
-
I fell in love with RT left side. I originally hated RT for being rough/bumpy and the high pitched metal shrill as it turns onto the lift hill. RT left side really broke my hatred. It has a lot of air time. The right side is why I was always so negative about RT, never lost my manhood on it though. I have rode every car on both sides back to back finding that the left side was more exciting than the right.
-
Wouldnt this go with Next Ride To go?
-
I really don't think we'll see any rides go this year but I think we'll still see the spider just to mess with us :).
-
i think we could see it on the scream machine
-
it would be cool to see it on nitros massive supports, meaning refurb!
-
That would be cool!
-
king kong style!
-
Haha even cooler!
-
new idea, anamatronic spider of doom!
-
That would be sweet!
-
they could icorperate it into a new terror trail, the spiders lair!
-
Just curious, what refurb does Nitro need?
-
New paint job definatlly.
-
New station decorations, too. The fans don't work.
-
Now just a doggone minute. I'm a Nitro fan. And *I* work.
-
^I hope your joking...
-
Yes, baaadddd joke LOL
-
I thought it was funny.
-
Me2.
Do the lights still flash on the walkways?
-
I didn't mean you fans. I meant the ones that hang from the ceiling.
-
I had to read it twice to get it haha
-
Do the lights still flash on the walkways?
No, unfortunatley they don't
-
Glad to see wow is back with a bang!
-
wow?
-
^GADVwow ! The local news reporter for outpost!
-
This site has only one official news reporter?
-
Well, he is not "official", but we consider him as one. :D
Also, he is all we need. He posts pretty much everything.
-
Well, He's got my thanks. But why don't you make him an associate or something
-
You should somehow get six flags to put this website on theres!
-
So yeah....I don't think any rides are going to be removed.
-
Depends, Do they have any really big plans for next year?
-
sounds like it.
-
Well, BG and Disney are the only companies that I know who have stuff planned out way ahead of time.
-
Exactly, that you know of. And it has been said that Six Flags is going to be doing it big in 2011 for their 50th anniversary. So while we might not be getting something huge this year, besides a much needed extra slide at HH, we are most definitely getting something in 2011 if the plan remains the same.
-
Maybe they'll build a coaster that will circuit the park. Kind of doubtful, but anything's possible.
-
I say inverted impulse ftw! :D
-
then we should of got possessed from guega lake
-
I do not think Cedar Fair would have sold us a ride knowing that one of their parks needed it.
-
Guega lake was a part of cedar fair before it went all water park? I thought it went from Six Flags right to the water park.
-
No. The entire history of the park can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geauga_Lake%27s_Wildwater_Kingdom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geauga_Lake%27s_Wildwater_Kingdom)
-
That probably took up what space was left in my brain. But hey, what can a couple of bangs against a wall fix?
-
Nitro never struck me as needing a new paint job, other than to simply get rid of the awful color scheme it currently has. But I miss the flashing lights in the queue--they were kinda neat.
I don't think any of their rides need to go, other than Ka if they can't get it to be reliable without eating a hole in their budget. They need more attractions interspersed with what is already there. They need to fill in all of those ugly empty plots before they should consider creating any more of them.
-
..... Idk!!!??? I think we should get a dive coaster!/
-
dive coaster is a 20 million dollar bandaid. It wouldn't even stand out at SFGA after 5 years. It would be like batman. superman, or medusa. Not nitro, ka, or toro. That being said I think it will one day soon replace GASM.
-
We have too many Steel coasters as it is. A GG woodie over the lake and through the woods would be amazing.
-
Don't say you have too many steel coasters, or the old, infamous ride rotation may come a visitin' and take one out to go somewhere else...or they may pull a Paramount Parks and remove a ride to replace it with something else.
-
I see that coming anyway :(.
-
Just as long as it's not Nitro or Rolling Thunder. :)
-
Nitro isn't moving anytime soon.
-
Don't say you have too many steel coasters, or the old, infamous ride rotation may come a visitin' and take one out to go somewhere else...or they may pull a Paramount Parks and remove a ride to replace it with something else.
I am not sure which ride they would rotate, besides for SUF but that has no turn out value really so I don't think many people would object.
-
i would! that was my first looping coaster!
-
My first looping coaster was the rockin' roller coaster in Florida. SUF was the first one that made me feel like I was getting a wedgie.
-
Good. now let's get back on topic. SUF is most likely to get rotated. If so, what will replace it?
-
And why do you think it is most likely to be rotated?
-
I am not sure which ride they would rotate, besides for SUF but that has no turn out value really so I don't think many people would object.
That's why.
-
if it were to be replaced, like i said before impulse is probably going in
-
No way. An impulse is simply asking for Chiller back. SUF should just be turned into a nice garden which it is now. That was a mistake cramming it into the parking lot.
-
Atleast it eats lines on a packed day!
-
ok then, what about a b&m standup?
-
Atleast it eats lines on a packed day!
No, it traps people on line on busy days. It's throughput is terrible! It's like Batman...except it loads slowly.
-
ok then, what about a b&m standup?
a. B and M stand-ups, and stand-up coasters in general, were a fad whose time has passed. There is a reason the last one sold in the whole world was The Georgia Scorcher.
b. Given Six Flags' current financial position, to expect a new B and M stand-up coaster is about as realistic as to expect the park to give away free, unlimited food of the utmost quality with admission, which of course will cost no more than it does not. notgonnahappen.com
-
If the park were to have any chance of getting a stand-up at all, I would have to say we would get Chang.
-
...which only has two trains. Not a good fit at Great Adventure unless they were to buy another train. . .
-
chang is great america bound.
-
well they should re-introduce the standup. there are none around here and people would get a kick out of it.
-
Have you ridden one?
B and M has tried valiantly to sell standups and has not succeeded. Parks have watched other parks, and noted the ride is wildly popular...at first....it does not have sustained drawing power over time. Parks have thus determined there are wiser choices for their money.
-
Another hyper-coaster for example.
-
That is correct. Stand-ups are popular for the first year and then die down.
-
I've never understood the "fad effect" of stand-ups. I don't think they "get old" any faster than any other type of steel coaster that doesn't suck to begin with. I realize I am not the typical park-goer, but there are very few coasters that I like less now than I did when they were "fresh."
That said, I would rather see more suspendeds and traditional sit-down loopers with great layouts over anymore "gimmicky" steel.
-
Most stand-ups don't have a huge theme to go with it like say "alpengeist" or others.
Stand-ups are put on flat land and don't really have that much to enhance them. Shockwave would be a good example.
-
They don't have to be put on flat land though. There's only a handful of them out there, so there hasn't been much opportunity to showcase the possibilities.
-
I think Riddlers Revenge is a great themed ride. And its not just flat, You are dipping into the ground at points and riding in cutaways.
-
The old Batman in Houston was pretty well themed.
-
Some Stand-Up Coasters do hurt too depending on the drop's and G forces. I know when I went on Mantis at Cedar Point, The op's tell you "make sure you lock your knees on the first drop and stand up perfectly straight or else your "junk" will get crushed".
Most people go on them once just for the credit. this was the same situation with me and mantis. I think a standup would be a bad decision. However going on Griffon @ BGE, That coaster is just plain old awesome to ride and to watch it go through it's course. It almost looks like it is a bird flying through the air when it is traveling the track the way that it executes the turns and drops combined with the width of the train.
Six Flags could really capitalize on a Dive machine and theme it very well and it would still have great popularity.
-
I don't know....I just feel that Dive machines are the current fad like Stand Ups once were.
Plus, I am repeating my earlier post and saying we definitely need a third woodie. For between $5M-$10M, they could build a GG that would obviously be great. Ravine Flyer only cost $6.6M and it has a freakin bridge too!
So while I am not disagreeing that a dive machine wouldn't be a great addition, I just don't think its what Gadv needs right now.
-
Heres a list of most of the types of roller coasters.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Types_of_roller_coasters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Types_of_roller_coasters)
While I agree with overlord about the dive machine, idont see where a wood could go or how it could tie in with any of the themed sections.
What I think we should get is a new dueling coaster (or coasters) But we could make a dueling wood coaster.
-
Trust me, if they can make a wooden coaster themed to Terminator, I think they will be able to do something spectacular in Gadv.
-
A dueling woodie themed to superman and lex luthor.
-
Ugh, no more commercial theming, please! Theme the ride to the area of the park it's in, but leave comic books and movies out of it, please!
-
You put it on the lake and call it Lakefront Flyer II and you are done.
-
The next woodie better be named "THE Jersey Devil", be themed VERY well, and interact with the natural forestation as much as possible, or I'll rip my hair out. I prefer that it's Gravity Group that's building it as well. :)
-
NOW THAT IS A GOOD NAME! they could have it in the woods on the lakefront and have an anamatronic jersey devil. They could create a whole storyline about how the jersey devil came to six flags to spread terror at the park.
-
I agree a Wooden Coaster set in a wooded environment with a Name "The Jersey Devil" THIS IS A NO BRAINER.
I brought this up before they built El Toro and hoped they built it into the woods.Make it so you can't see the ride at all this is how the Beast and the Voayage add to the ride its like a Terror trail that leads to the coaster make it that much more frighting.
Parks don't get it the Top rated coasters are those that take you on a journey like The Voyage,The Beast,Boulderdash and Prowler.
It doesn't have to be big, tall or even to fast to produce the thrills a great coaster has
just leave some trees and add a few simple tunnels or sheds.. :)
-
If it could be located in the NJ area of the park; Nitro could use a wooden neighbor. :)
-
True, Great adv. could use one more coaster in that area.
-
The only coaster I've been on riding through the woods is Nitro and we all know how good that ride is. I would love to see a GG woodie at Gadv but only if Rolling Thunder gets taken out. 3 wooden coasters isn't a big deal it's just I'd rather have steel as a new addition than wood with Toro and Thunder.
Srosnerules, that was a beautiful post about Griffon. It IS like a bird flying through the sky. They are one of the most intense coasters out there and one at Gadv would fit in because it's the only style of coaster we don't have. That and 4d.
I really want to see a Jersey Devil themed Maverick! Now that would make Gadv a Roller Coaster Capital. Good coasters that is!
-
Jersey Devil themed Maverick? But the Jersey Devil eats steel, so the coaster has to be wood so you have a chance of escape. :D
-
The only coaster I've been on riding through the woods is Nitro and we all know how good that ride is.
The closest tree to nitro is like 50 ft. it doesn't exactly do a wooded run like, say, runaway train.
-
In fact runaway train was even more wooded when the park first opened. It was more like say boss or beast.
-
Three woodies is too much, but 10 steel is not enough? Mmmm kay. ::)
Unfortunately, Great Adventure doesn't really have any "terrain" if you know what I mean, so it would be harder to make a journey through the woods as interesting as Voyage, Boulder Dash, etc... But a free-form out&back-style layout with plenty of room to keep trees on both sides of the track is the way to go. A twister layout would require larger patches of trees to be removed. The more secluded a coaster, the better!
-
Well there are many types of steel coasters. With wood coaster there are Out&Back's and Twisters. We have an Out and Back and a Twister/Out&Back. What other style of wooden coaster wood you want at Gadv?
Nitro's tree seem really close when riding it. Then when I think about it so does RMT. I would like a fast paced woodie running throw the woods behind the lake and peaking over the tree tops but I don't see it happening. A dive Machine across the lake however...haha
-
Woodies give different rides from one another due mainly to the maintenance they get from the park. Lots of people like them because the ride feels like a "live" experience because of the "give" of the wood. I've heard people refer to steel coasters as stale. The layout/style also makes a difference, as it does with steel. The wooden coaster can also be designed in the cyclone style-or a triple out-and-back with a figure 8 layout and a double out-and back layout. GAdv uses the figure-8 and the racer on RT...of course :)
-
Yes and they also have double figure eights, and the mobius loop, where you do a circuit on the track but end in the other station. and dueling coasters, like gwazi and dueling dragons
-
I Have heard people say that even though I am not sure why. Nitro is a great overall ride!

-
of course it is. all it needs is a new logo on the station and a fresh coat of paint, and it'll practically be brand new!
-
i agree. nitro hasnt had new paint since it opened and is like medusa was two years ago. they could just repaint it different colors and not the whole shabang like medusa. I like black purple and yellow for a new color scheme.
-
Why don't they give it blue supports, silver center track and rails. and re-color the yellow on the train to silver?
-
I think it is fine as it is!
-
With pink for the rails? ???
-
No Nitro is a good ride I do not really think it needs a paint job for now. Can you imagine Six Flags Over Texas gets a huge "new" coaster.(Texas Giant) SFGA gets a paint job for Nitro?
-
I can see the paint fading from Forked River.
Nitro needs new paint more than a Chance Chaos ride needs new parts.
-
Nitro looks ok, except for the rails. Hopefully they will redo the color scheme with something more pleasing. The colors always seemed way out of place. Perhaps they will finally do it the way it was intended and call it Superman. ;)
-
i think rolling thunder or maybe rt but not kingdas ka or suf there perty new and they do have very good lines. well havve to wait till next year though. we will see
-
^
Both of the rides you mentioned arent going anywhere. they are both major attractions and runaway train has been at the park since it opened in 1974. Plus gadv cant afford to lose two wooden coasters that would leave the wood coaster count at 1.
-
^Technically, RT is counted as one.
Runanway Train is an exceptional youth ride with good reliability.
^^SUF can leave cause it's easy to to rotate.
^^Kingda ka could leave if it has another major problem with it.
-
I do not think they will take KK out. As long as it holds the record for being the tallest coaster in the world, it will probably stay.
-
Even if it ends up becoming chiller?
-
At least for a little longer. Remember we had chiller for a decade and it wasn't even a record breaker.
-
Only reason why we had it for a decade was because they thought the problems were fixed.
-
^^Kingda ka could leave if it has another major problem with it.
KK will never leave for I say another......10 years.
Edit: At LEAST 10 years
-

It was supossed to be Superman?
-
Yes, Nitro was originally intended to be a Superman coaster.
-
Why the change then?
-
Maybe it had to do with all the intamin superman coasters going up around that time. 3 superman hypers from 99 to 2000.
-
Were they the ros'es? If so then they should redo the others as well.
-
Yeah, they were the Ride of steels. Darien lake, SFA and SFNE.
-
SFA's SROS is being repainted red and blue. Thankfully. :-*

-
I kinda like the name Nitro better.
-
But the paint job... well that's another story.
-
is nitro supposed to stand for nitroglycern sorry if i spelled that wrong.
-
You forgot the "I". So close, but a very good try.
I don't know why they called it Nitro. It was probably an employee poll when they were building it I guess.
-
Idk but Nitro is still one of the meanest coaster names around. NNNIIItro.
-
I think it's a great name (and a great ride), but one of the lamest color schemes EVAR! It needs a meaner look--black and red or something.
-
gray supports and crimson red tracking. That'll look kind of intimidating.
-
As long as they don't re-theme it to intimidator #3.
-
They won't, Two coasters are enough.
-
Uhm. Jersey Devil.
-
Um...No? That's gotta be a woodie since he eats metal. ;)
-
I think Nitro works.
-
As long as they don't re-theme it to intimidator #3.
Cedar Fair's trademark says "outlook not so good."
-
Um...No? That's gotta be a woodie since he eats metal. ;)
I knew it someone was going to say that.
-
Um...No? That's gotta be a woodie since he eats metal. ;)
not necicarally. you could be escaping from the jersey devil and he could be chasing you eating the track behind you trying to get to the train.
-
Cedar Fair's trademark says "outlook not so good."
agreed. They're not gonna be like people predict, especially the giga coaster.
-
I LOVE the name Nitro as is!
-
You could even say it rox
-
^^ hahaha lol.
As long as they don't re-theme it to intimidator #3.
What is going on with that ride?
-
Or those rides?
-
Well, among other things, in Cedar Fair's most recent conference call, the news came out the company tried to cancel or at least defer those rides, but was unable to do so. And that Shoot The Rapids at Cedar Point was originally slated for the 2009 season, but was deferred for a year.
-
What losers. Their gonna end up going out of busness. Meaning SF gets all the rides! :D But seriously, you can tell people youre gonna build stuff and then just not do it for another year. Thats kinda how ga messed up with chiller its first year.
-
How exactly could they get all the rides? They don't have the money to buy any parks, even if CF went out of business.
-
cedar fair would sell the rides and six flags corp could end up buying some of them. we could use the flats
-
(http://loudounlady.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/pot-kettle-black.jpg)
-
???
-
It's the pot calling the kettle black/talk about a company closing its parks on a board dedicated to a park who's company is bankrupt. Nobody wins if either company goes under. Jobs and local economies suffer and we loose some great parks and rides.
-
You do have a point there. The pic just seemed "random" at first.
-
Ya I had to double take
-
Dan's superior language of colorful metaphors is incomprehensible to most mortal humans. It takes careful study and practice to become fluent in it. :)
-
How long did it take you to get used to it?
-
I am still learning. ;)
-
Maybe I'm from the same galaxy cuz I got that one on the first take.
-
So what do you think will be leaving the park this year now that the season is over?
-
El Toro ;)
-
Honestly, I don't think anything will be removed, we might get a new flat-ride, but nothing will leave.
-
Speculation's gonna be hard this season with the Spider of Doom flying away. If I had my way, it would probably be...nothing. We don't need to lose things in what will most likely be a quiet year.
-
We'll lose something somewhere. I can't remember how long it's been that we didn't lose somthing over the off-season.
-
Parachutes were painted to look nice for buyers. ;)
-
It looks great if your a fan of the Lifesavers candy wrappers.
-
I can't imagine there is anything else we could loose.
Maybe Fly Me to the Moon back to ANY of it previous incarnations.
They still have the Mach1 props in the graveyard!
That would be more like a gain and not a loss.
-
I'd guess the RoundUp's and GASM's days are numbered.
-
Perhaps we will know soon, but chances are near even that we may lose Dan Snyder/Mark Shapiro. The bondholders are challenging the re-organization plan and its plan to keep current management. Say what you will about Dan/Mark, but they inherited a huge mess, then got the worst economy of our lifetimes, then very bad weather as well...
-
I read somewhere the spider was seen on northern star arena. But that hardly makes sense.
-
You were probably reading last year's posts, lol
-
Or Screamscape, which is a distinction without a whole lot of difference.
-
I read somewhere the spider was seen on northern star arena. But that hardly makes sense.
They just throw it there when they have nothing better to do with it. It was there a previous season i believe.
-
I don't know where it was this year. I went to the park twice and looked everywhere, and no hint of a spider.
-
Well that really means nothing major will be removed... isn't that common sense?
-
well, they could of axed the spider.
-
well, they could of axed the spider.
Or perhaps it was placed in a location where it couldn't easily be seen? Or I guess it could have been flying from place to place and we kept missing it.
I guess we'll all know for sure come next Spring :). Ugghhh.... how many more months of speculation???
-
4 months
-
Give or take
-
Any updates on Major atractions?
-
I'm hoping we don't see that horrid Fly Me To The Moon next year to be honest. Bring back The Right Stuff. Or something else :/ BUT NOT FLY ME TO THE MOON!
-
bring back the themeing,too.
-
I still remember the dollar store crepe paper adornments for Spongebob Squarepants. Seemed like something Kennywood would do! Pie pans, anyone?
-
shower scrunchie, maybe?
-
Shower scrunchie with a HANDLE!
-
Have not read through all 12 pages, just the last page. Money sense and smart sense would seem to say GASM would be next to go.
-
Welcome to Outpost witty300!
Actually, I think that might have been my original prediction way back on page 1 or 2 lol. For better or worse though, I can assure you that GASM is here to stay for at least one more year ;).
-
I say two, but I'm not that accurate with predictions.
-
Thanks Wade for the welcome, and i think it is fair to say GASM has a year or two left.
-
I think that or Rolling Thunder is gone in the 50th year anniversary thing.
-
Rolling Thunder is a classic racing woodie, there's not many of them left. although it is old, it is still reliable and always seems to draw a crowd even on an empty day. By those means, Rolling Thunder does take up some space good for another coaster, but so does GASM and don't count out chillers old spot, too.
-
I really hope we get something else besides a coaster for the 50th anniversary. The park is in dire need for some good quality flats or even a good dark ride, since we don't have any.
-
WAR ON LINES
-
We need to keep all the rides open ***cough cough Kingda ka cough cough*** to even out all the lines.
Or add more flats I like that idea. :P
-
We need to keep all the rides open ***cough cough Kingda ka cough cough*** to even out all the lines.
Or add more flats I like that idea. :P
You make it seem like the park likes having Ka closed. The park can't control it's down time in most cases.
-
^ I think the point he was trying to make is why get rid of any rides for no reason, while at the same time making light of kingda ka's down time issue.
-
Exactly!
for a flat we should get a zipper!
-
carnival ride death trap? SURE!!! ;D
-
...which is virtually uninsurable...and in New Jersey to boot?
Nope, no Zipper at Great Adventure any time soon...
-
new jersey has the highest lawyers per capita and the highest sueing rate in the country, we have the second highest insurance rates and we also have some of the highest medical bills, too. By those standards, no zipper for SFGA.
-
Is Tango stil an option to open next season or has it already been removed?
-
probably in their scrap yard
-
It looked really bad in that spot. Just sitting there.
-
ZOMG! Twister is in peices!!! LOOK AT GADV.COM!!!! :o :o
-
It's probably taken apart for maitenence. don't over-react to it. All of the flats get taken apart for yearly maitenence.
-
Tango is still there http://www.gadv.com/photogallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=8 (http://www.gadv.com/photogallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=8) look at the bottom right.
-
Well, I've been wrong before. But I do know that the flats get taken apart for yearly maitenence around this time.
-
Oh, I would think by now they would take it out.
-
which one, Tango or Twister?
-
mhmmm, BOTH!
-
It doesn't look like there is really anything going on with Tango at the moment (not hinting at anything) so not sure about what's up.But Twister is just getting a rehab
-
I hate twister. I hope they just tear it down.
-
what's wrong with it. It's a nut-cruncher, but I'm way past that. It also draws a fair crowd during the day.
-
It's probably taken apart for maitenence. don't over-react to it. All of the flats get taken apart for yearly maitenence.
QFT. It's no big deal.
-
For those that do not know, QFT means quoted for truth...sort of like megadittos or sumthin'
-
I hate twister. I hope they just tear it down.
Okay,so you want them to tear it down, only for them to have ANOTHER open pad/smoking section there?Nice, good to know you care about the park.I don't like Twister for the most part either but I DEFINITELY do not want it to be removed and then have one less flat, and that's something we need desperately.
-
It cracks me up every time a ride goes down for annuals that people freak out. And while fantasy fling and Spin Miester were perhaps bad examples, even they were taken down many many many times before they finally had to be retired. They follow manufacturer guidelines and many times even take extra preventative measures.
As for Tango, this father of 3 was rather pissed about that last year. It's a great ride for the 2-6 year old crowd because it's a step above the REALLY little kiddie rides and the parents can ride with the kids as well. My hope is that much like Houdini, since it didn't get ripped out, that it still has hope. I can understand their thinking last year and I'd really rather the place keep all of the "open" rides open instead of never knowing which ride would be closed on each visit so hopefully things improved enough that it can make a comeback.
And unless something recently changed, we have nothing to worry about this year in terms of ride removals :). The only exception would be if something physically met its maker and had to be retired but most of the ride collection is in decent shape at this point.
-
I hate twister. I hope they just tear it down.

No I did not mean it like that. Tear it down for a better flat. How about a rainbow!
-
WHY? There are plenty of places to put in other flats, including your Rainbow. The park needs capacity. No ride needs to be gone unless it can no longer be maintained, has safety issues, etc. Remember, every ride had its own fanbase...just because you may not like it doesn't mean there aren't others who love it. There are.
-
YEs I know we need more flats. IF we get more flats we could even out lines, please the non coaster type people, annd the people that are to short to ride the major coasters. REpaint twister, add a rainbow somewhere.
-
I would like "ROLLING THUNDER" to leave! That ride is so old and it hurts! lol. I know its a classic ride, but that space could have something better. A darkride maybe?....
-
Heaven help you if Rich and Sue get hold of you. Or me, for that matter.
Rolling Thunder is a classic wooden coaster (set) that desperately needs taken care of.
-
I wasn't a fan of RT either. But it's not the kind of ride you remove.
-
I guess you're right. RT is a classic ride. I just don't like it cause it hurts. I got on it anyway sometimes. Lol. :)
-
"The Lady In The Lake" if it happens, might count as a darkride....
-
Which it won't.
-
Which it won't.
How will I put that to perspective for you? Hmmm, uh... try winning the lottery four times, get struck by lightning indoors twice and be hit by an asteroid in the middle of a meteor shower, all within a week.
-
Or Dick Kinzel will buy Six Flags as a part of the bankruptcy reorganization. Actually, that is more likely to happen than any witchdoctor named Claws being part of theming in the Six Flags Theme Park family in months where the temperature is typically 70 or more.
-
^Who is Dick KInzel?
-
^Who is Dick KInzel?
CEO of Cedar Fair
-
...at the moment.

I guess we were right eh?
-
wow!what perfect usage of an "eh"
-
I thought it was 'ay in Canada speak?
-
It's deffinatly eh, eh.
-
Matt dont judge my canadian skills
-
Wasn't. When I read "eh", I always think of it as "ehhhhhh", not "ayyyyyy". What an epiphany!
-
The Canadians get an eh in understanding Canadian dialect, you see?
wow, of an area where sodas are called pop, fathers are called pop, and all women are called honey by many...yes, sir or ma'am, as the case may be
-
Over at GADV.com last season I said that Scream Machine was next to go, and I was tsk-tsked at by everyone. I was also tsk-tsked when I said that Houdini was opening again...
So tsk-tsk me if you'd like but my bet is that the next ride to go will be Skull Mountain... well either it will go or be rehabbed with a better storyline, new effects, etc.
Don't take this as me wishing it away, because I really like it, so I hope it just gets the affects it needs. I'm just saying that now that GASM is gone, Skull Mountain will have the shortest wait in the park. The Dark Knight is too young, but I could see it getting some major revamp in a few years as well, if the new CEO likes theming, which we'll figure out soon.
-
lol
Skull Mountain isn't going anywhere. It's cheap to maintain and very reliable. The parts are also easy to get. Yes, it will eventually be getting a major rehab but it isn't going anywhere. The rehab would be more around the physical structure - fixing leaks, paint, rotted sections, etc. And of course, the ride itself.
There are far bigger issues for the new CEO to figure out. Having a few rides besides big coasters is probably one of them. It would seem the theme is a far less important concern right now but we'll see.
-
A dear friend had once forewarned me that I would no longer recognize Great Adventure within the next ten years. I think losing GASM, Freefall, moon flume and, Looping Starship, is the starting point to no longer recognizing the park as I did when I was a young kid. Only 7 survivors remaining, Rolling Thunder, Mine Train, Parachutes, Big Wheel, Congo Rapids, Skyride and Log Flume. I know change is supposed to be good but, I shutter at the thought of what's next!
-
Oh and that dear friend was Steve U. He told me on our very last park visit together that major changes were coming. I don't know if he even knew it would start like this...
-
IMO, the next Ride Rotation should be TDK to SFNE and Pandemonium to us :D
-
Although it'll never happen since they draw good crowds, my personal preference would be for Superman or Kingda Ka. Actually, what I'd really like is for them to make use of the empty areas and not take anything else out.
One thing I'm getting real sick of hearing is people on the Facebook page saying to get rid of Rolling Thunder. Over my dead body!!!!
-
Rolling Thunder is now in the top five most reliable rides in the park, it shouldn't be going anywhere.
-
Rolling Thunder will never leave! And even if there was even the slighest rumor of it leaving, everyone would unite against it. It's not possible to hate Rolling Thunder so much that you want it to completely leave...
Personally, I enjoy Rolling Thunder no matter how rough it is, but what I hope is that GCI does a full rehab of it and gives it Millenium Flyer trains. I don't mind MF trains since they're based off older trains, but I wouldn't want Timberliners because they take away from the old charm of the ride. I would just leave the buzz-bar trains, but they tear the track up since they're so heavy.
-
RT would be even more boring with shorter wheel-base cars (MF's/TL's). The lever action of the long wheel base is vital to the airtime on that ride. Unless there's something really messed up with the construction of that particular Cobb woodie, Rolling Thunder could run great with decent maintenance and lubrication (and magnetic brakes to allow it to be lubricated). Adventureland back home has a single track Cobb out&back very similar to RT in height, length and design and they have had no trouble keeping it running well for 32 years with 3-bench PTC cars. Surely GAdv has more budget to take care of their wood than Adventureland.
-
Depends where their money's going...(insert cheap KK crack here).
-
Say what you will about Six Flags, but they took excellent care of Thunder Run at KK...Twisted Twins...not so much...in fact, those coasters closed years before the lease was rejected.
Al Weber and theming? Yeah, right.
-
They have an imbalance when it comes to the way they handle budget. More money goes some places, while some areas don't get what they fully need.
It's quite similar to how the state gov't is run, the same way for almost 50 years.
-
One more flat down??
http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=1403 (http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=1403)
-
It is inside of part of the park that hasn't been opened in two years. I'm not surprised.
-
It is sad to see it go as there is now no hope that the area is going to be reopend anytime soon . Why not just make GA a coaster park only and get rid of everything else ?
-
Because we already have one Cedar Point in this country?
-
:( Bummer.
One of the few originals left. It opened 2 years after the park and I believe came from the 64 Worlds Fair like the Skyway did.
In typical Six Flags fashion, it got a total full rehab in the 06/07 off season and then went SBNO the following year to sit and rot.
I understand the way money and business works and it actually did make sense even to me to close this section off after Chiller was gone but why in the world they couldn't have found a few bucks to relocate the ride to one of the TONS of empty ride pads is beyond me.
And my boys love this style ride. Go figure...
-
I am kind of disappointed with this, many of the employees I've talked to since chiller left said that the area was in limbo until something drastic happens.
-
The fact that they're removing Musik Express is probably a good sign - the ride was falling apart and looked like trash anyway. If anything, it means that they are considering redeveloping Old Country.
And to the kid who keeps saying "the next Cedar Point" - Cedar Point has one of the best flat ride collections in the world. Stop bashing Cedar Point - you don't know what you're talking about. The park you're thinking of is Magic Mountain. Cedar Point is the #1 Amusement Park in the world because it has so many good coasters and so many good flats.
-

By the general public, NO ONE talks about Flat rides in any of the parks. If it's a kid then that's an exception. Cedar Point doesn't get its fame from its Flat ride collection, only because of the amount of roller coasters they boast about way too much. All the Cedar Fair parks and all the Six Flags parks get value and popularity from most people because of their collection of roller coasters. I almost never hear about Knoebel's, Kennywood, Holiday World and even Hershey because they "don't have anything worth visiting for." Yet, both Knoebel's, Holiday World and Kennywood have rides that are worlds better than most of the ones at other parks.
-
And someone needs to get to Magic Mountain...one of the best parks anywhere, and knott to be sneezed at.
-
I actually thought they redid the musik express just before chiller closed anyway, and just because they tore out a ride doesn't mean they're going to work in the area. Just look at the pads by the chairlift.
-
Not to mention that was a totally different they that closed that area to start with. Management has changed. Drastically. At the national level. At the park level. What was done in the past is no indicator at all of what may be done in the future. It has little to nothing to do with how the park will be run in the future.

Hershey park has 11 coasters.... thats pretty good. i always here about hershey..
-
You wouldn't if you lived in New Mexico...for example. But they have darn sure heard of Cedar Point in New Mexico. America's Roller Coast.
-
^well Hershey Park, yeah probably considering the obvious relation to Hershey's chocolate... just saying
-
You might think so, but very few people nationwide have heard of Hersheypark. Awareness for it in industry surveys is actually quite low. It's not like the chocolate company has done anything to promote the park nationally in decades.
-
I tend to hear very positive reviews of Knoebels from the common folk. They see the value in it more than a lot of enthusiasts do. Personally I'll tale Knoebels over any theme park with a bunch of coasters, because none of those places offer the overall package like Knoebels does and at such a reasonable price and with great food to boot!
-
The only person I know where I live who's been to Knoebel's also has high reviews, and he wishes more people would spend the time to travel out there for a trip. The only time I hear about Hershey park is when there's an athletic event or a competition and everyone wants to visit the park because it's there.
-
Hershey park is a great park has 2 great woodies and alot of flats and is cleaner then sixflags
-
I was extremely underwhelmed by Hershey. It was run pretty poorly in my opinion. They ran one train on everything except Fahrenheit and Storm Runner. I actually felt that Great Adventure felt cleaner and more balanced. I felt the high point of the park was actually the woodies which I enjoyed.
-
I guess hershey is one of those parks that only runs multiple trains when they have to. I wish we got a storm runner-like ride instead of kingda ka...

Problem was the lines weren't short. Sooperdooper looper with one train operation was like over an hour because it take so long to go around.
-
That is not typical for Hershey. Usually Looper has two trains running on a day like that and is such a walk-on you can re-ride a dozen times without getting off. The Great Bear crew is atrocious and Comet dispatches are horrible, but that's just as much the fault of the seat belts as the operations. The rest of the coasters in the park are operated fairly efficiently IMO.
-
Hershey was great when I visited on a road trip to Cedar Point. Also along the way I was the lone car passenger that wanted to stop at (or even knew of) Knoebels, so it got passed by. Take that for what it's worth.
-
Although Knoebels attracts people from as far away as California (well coaster enthusiasts anyway), it really only markets to eastern PA I think. It's a gem of a place that most outsiders don't know about.

i think sfga should take down rolling rust aka rolling thunder
-
Welcome to the site... But just to warn you that RT has a lot of fans here so be prepared :).
-
I think they should take down Kingda Ka, El Toro and Superman and build 50 flat rides!

Welcome to the site Italian!!!
Like Wade said, tread lightly on RT. But feel free to bash on toro and kingda ka as much as you want!
-
Rolling Thunder is a treasure. It is one of the very best wooden roller coasters in the country.
Why anyone would want it taken down, I do not understand.
Welcome, italian124. What is your favorite ride at SFGAd? And how would you feel if someone insisted it be taken down?
The park is, after all, changING.

AD Green Lantern To that list

No, keep El toro. That's the only one on Matt's list that doesn't break down every month, and it's not a 54-inch ride.
-
It breaks down every day!
-
I was next in line and it broke down.1 hours later decided to go on it for the last ride and it broke down... so ya it does break dopwn all the time
-
The only time it "broke down" on me was when it rained opening year and during FFFN when they were adding the second train. So I guess I'm all luck.
-
Pretty much all Intamins break down for at least a short time on a daily basis it seems.
-
At least every coaster breaks down at some point during the day for some reason, lol.
-
I won't deny that, except most older rides seem to run flawlessly more often than not. But Intamins are definitely prone to more frequent maintenance calls. More often than not, it seems it's just a minor computer glitch that they fix in a minute or two and the ride is back up.

So true. I gained a whole new trust for coasters after working Space Mountain. The ride would go down for the silliest things at times, but that's just how hyper-safe they are.
-
King's Dominions coasters were pretty well run. I don't remember any of their rides breaking down during the day.
-
It's all about timing. Some go down for as little as 2 minutes, other times...well...we have Kingda Ka to show us that. LOL. If you're not in line...or sometimes in the station, you'd never know. At most, you might notice from the queue that the train dispatched a little slower than normal.
