Yup, watching it now - on MSNBC ironically. Must be odd watching yourself go up in flames.
Such a shame. 85 years of history going up in smoke :( And this is really close to the Hotels and the Theme Park for those that are wondering.
-
That is quite an impressive fire. It isn't near the theme park, but in a backlot away from the main studios.

/\ With a fire that big, its close enough LOL
Its within a brush jump from expanding to really scary areas.
-
Just reported that the Cyclone ride at the Theme Park has been badly damaged.
-
True that. It looks like they have it under control now. Do those buildings look familar? I'm not a huge movie buff, but I hope it's not the Hill Valley/Sweet Apple/Bewitched area.
-
Would that be on the New York street area?
-
Nah. That would be in the suburbs. ;)
-
Reports that King Kong and a film vault are now involved - though not 100% confirmed.
-
It seems as if explosives are going off. Keep up abreast! Off to Seaside...
-
King Kong has been destroyed :(
-
that crazy
I just found some King Kong Video from Florida 1990 :'(
I loved that ride one of the best at the park
-
The clocktower is in Courtyard Square and they dont know of its status but NY street is gone :(
-

Good call Tom..
Its a sad day... Back to the Future set destroyed, King Kong attraction destroyed and over 40,000 film reels destroyed :(
-
wait what what WHATTTT
40,000 film reels destroyed :o
something like this that is so irreplaceable should be stored in a fireproof / waterproof / earthquakeproof / waterproof/ iceproof room
this is the biggest example of BACKING UP :'(
-
Just saw somebody on CNN saying that they do have copies stored elsewhere so they apparantly did take those precautions ;)
Here is a link - http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,361251,00.html
Most important Freeman said the black smoke is a result of plastic video containers burning in the vault, which firefighters worked to save. ?They moved 100 and 100 of containers out of that structure,? he said.
Ron Meyer, President and Chief Operating Officer at Universal Studios, said that the main vault containing film masters was not damaged.
?We were really lucky today.? Meyer said. ?Nothing irreplaceable was lost.?
-
Thats ashame that the originals were burned :(, Also you cant replace movie sets/props :(
-
The masters were not damaged. The damaged reels were replicas. I wonder what fortress they keep the masters in.
I really feel terrible for USH. It's one of my favorite parks, and that backlot is a sight to behold. I never thought that back in 2004 when I went through there that I'd never see some of those structures again. I wanted to take my girlfriend to USH and do that backlot tour too. :'( :'( :'(
-
Damn it....Now I cant see all this stuff when I go out there in 3 weeks!
