The Old West Was Never This Wild!
CEDAR POINT ANNOUNCES DETAILS ON NEW ROLLER COASTER;
MAVERICK WILL RUSTLE UP RIDERS IN 2007
SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2006 ? Cedar Point will take guests to a new frontier in 2007. The historic amusement park/resort has announced plans for a new roller coaster for next summer named Maverick. Located in Frontiertown, Maverick will treat riders to multiple terrain-hugging elements that have never been experienced on a Cedar Point roller coaster.
Guests will begin their adventurous journey on Maverick by boarding steam-era-styled coaster trains with an ultra-sleek profile that will carry them along the 4,450-foot-long course. Linear synchronous motors will propel the train to the top of a 105-foot-tall first hill. From there, it's not straight down ? it's more than straight down! Maverick will take its passengers down to Earth at an astonishing 95-degree angle at speeds of up to 57 mph to within five feet above the ground! From there, the train will hug the terrain as it twists and banks around hairpin turns with quick but smooth changes in direction. Throughout the 2-minute, 30-second ride, passengers will also experience eight "airtime-filled hills," three inversions and a second launch through a dark tunnel that will leave them in awe as they reach speeds of 70 mph!
Situated on 5.5 acres between the Mean Streak roller coaster and Thunder Canyon water ride, Maverick will be Cedar Point's 17th coaster, more scream machines than any park in the world. Maverick will cost approximately $21 million to build, making it one of the single largest investments in the park's 137-year history.
"Maverick represents a new brand of roller coaster," said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. "It is only right that it be built at the Roller Coaster Capital of the World ? Cedar Point."
At the end of the 2005 season, the former White Water Landing ride was demolished and removed from the park ? although the ride's station remained for use with Maverick's queue line. Throughout the winter and spring of 2006, construction crews prepared and poured footers for Maverick, even before the park opened for the season. Speculation grew throughout the summer as to what Cedar Point was planning for the future. Up until this time, "On-Point!" ? the official Cedar Point online web log, has only teased the public and worldwide audience of coaster enthusiasts about the latest happenings at the site.
Guests who crave fun and excitement can ride Maverick when Cedar Point opens for the 2007 season in May. (Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride.)
"As a coaster enthusiast, I can't wait to ride Maverick," stated Carole Sanderson, president of American Coaster Enthusiasts, a worldwide club of coaster enthusiasts. "I believe Maverick will delight its riders with many surprising elements, including its compact layout and staggered launches."
Guests will be able to follow the construction progress of Maverick at the park's Web site, www.cedarpoint.com. Exclusive webcams, "OnPoint!" and the FUNtimes newsletter will help keep thrill-seekers up-to-date on the happenings at the ride site throughout the construction process.
Seems like an intresting little ride, not really a record breaker but it could be a diamond in the rough
-
Seems Like a cool coaster.
a 95 degree first drop.
Airtime hills, Looks Like Coaster theming will help this ride maybe good things to come with the pickup of the Paramount parks ?
here are some links

-
Am I the only one that thinks this is not a lot of ride for 21M? Sorry, to me it looks short and rather pointless... (bad pun). The 95 degree first drop looks as though it last for about 10ft. of track and will happen in about 2 seconds.
I'll likely get out there to ride it but I'm not sure what they were thinking in terms of spending that much capital on this thing. Medusa was 6 million less. Oh well, videos don't always do these rides justice.
-
Wasn't this a Intamin ride ?
It say Design by IntaRide, LLC of Glen Burnie, Md. ?
Yes I will be making my first trip out there next year and may hit kennywood on the way if anyone wants to go I know its a long way off but I never been to those two parks and very excited about hitting those coasters.
Yes 21 Mil is a alot I guess the theming and such ?
-
It's most definately Intamin but they don't do the actual design process. Although RCDB does have Ingenieur B?ro Stengel GmbH listed as the designer... who knows.
Another really odd part is the length of the trains. Yes, there are 6 trains but only 12 people per train!@! Thats just insane. This is a Intamin ride so I would never expect it to ever reach full capacity either.
-
If you listen to the interviews on the website Kinzel does say Intamin
Ride Manufacturer: Intamin AG, Switzerland Ride
Supplier: Intaride LLC, USA
they are the same
here is a good article on Intamin

-
Where are these eight airtime hills there talking about? I only counted like 2-3...
I will go out there next year, but that is alot of money for that ride IMO.
-
I personally think it looks cool. It's something different, not a record breaker, etc. Looks like it could be a very good ride.
I also think the 21million has to do with the theming. It looks to be well themed which I love. Hopefully this is something we will start seeing more of.
I also hope we get those dueling moments in real life.
How many Intamins is this in a row for CP now???
-
Seems like a fun little ride, doesnt seem it will top IOA theming wise, they did need a ride not as intense at TTD and MF. As for money....KK is only $9 million more, of course thats without the breakdowns and issues. Thats ALOT of money for that type of ride as people have said. Also there LSM's which can be hell to maintain
-
Umm LSM launch up the lift, mid-course launch, and magnetic brakes. Dont forget, its an Intamin...
-
Looks to be a fun ride. The launch below the station looks different but ita shame that they brake it before the second launch. Yea 95 degrees at 105 feet, it will barely be noticable. They did a great job on the site though !
-
Umm LSM launch up the lift, mid-course launch, and magnetic brakes. Dont forget, its an Intamin...
Well atleast they are running a seperate power line to the ride so they can keep it running consistently.
-
That barrel roll is going to be death.
SR kills and it's going half the speed into the barrel rolls.
-
Maverick is gonna be pretty cool I must say and to comment on the post above...
-
(http://maverick.cedarpoint.com/_upload/gallery/MVT056.jpg)
That looks sick!
-
I like the way it's low to the ground.
It will fell like it's much faster.
I will get out there next year and check it out
-
Looks like a fun inversion! Although we had one of those here at GADV 11 years ago and it was called Viper :P...Not only does it have the same inversion, it very well could have the same steel from Viper's heartline in it!
Thats incredibally low to the ground, I wonder how fast it will hit it though...

4-19-07 Update
www.pointbuzz.com/gallery.aspx?i=6465
also I read someone said they seen it testing on the Webcam ?
-
I also read that somewhere, pcman.
-
I seen a pick of it testing somewhere. Im not quite sure where though.
-
Theres a video of it testing on YouTube. It's a horrible quality and you don't see the whole ride just 15 seconds of it.
-
Whoa Whoa, Back Up There Bronco!
-
Some Testing video
but very crappy from a cell phone.

here some pics from CP site

As Wade mentioned before the drop is just to small for $21 mill they could have gone up to 150-200 feet or made the drop into a hole

Gotta love these rumors. I remember reading somewhere that there were some sort of issues with it and it would be delayed by at least a month. Good to see things right on track since Cedar Point needs for this to be a winner.
-
CP Made the right call to go with something that inverts, its been a long time since they built one...
-
The opening has been delayed until early June.
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/070508/cltu075.html?
-
This isn't cute! Vacation needed NOW! Can't wait past June 13th!
!
-
Dude, is it just me or is Screamscape getting things right more and more frequently? damn that sucks
-
Hope it's ready for Coastermania.
Yes Screamscape seems to have people that email him daily ?
-
Now who on earth would do that ;)
-
I did only once about Sahara Sams in Berlin.
THat was after I posted the info here ;)
-
The thing is, this ride is made by Intamin (well, Intarides, depending on your view of things) and the way I see it, the ride will open with much fanfare for, oh, lets see, maybe 2 weeks, and then throw a major part that is custom fabricated which only one factory in the world makes.... which = 1 month downtime.
I'd be amazed if this ride actually operated solid without intruption for the rest of the season for them and basically, they just lost the "off-season" to work out the bugs. Sucks to be them lol
-
Dude, is it just me or is Screamscape getting things right more and more frequently? damn that sucks
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
This explains that crying sound i've been hearing all day. Must have been those CP fanboys. ;D
-
I just thought of something ... is this the first park to have two rocket coasters? heh, good luck!
-
It's am LSM launch, so unless we're calling all launches rockets, nope. Great Adventure has 3. ;-P
-
You know, I cant name a park that has all of it's launched coasters running if they have more then one, Can you?
-
Kings Dominion!
-
I'm sure LSM are more reliable then the katapult / sling type launch like Kingda Ka
I read that the delay is due to the low to the ground twist heartline spin.
they may strengthen it out some
I guess to rough
-
Kings Dominion!
Nice Pwn Chuck
Is it possible that it is pulling WAY too many positive G's in that heartline?
-
The rumor is saying that its just too rough (Which was quite evident from the videos) and the engineer who rode it told them this.
It would make sense.
-
No one has rode Maverick...
-
The chief engineer always rides it before the public/employees.
I wouldn't rule it out.
-
If he rode, he would not tell them to change his ride as the water dummies prove it to be satisfactory, its something else
-
icon_STOP2007 - Maverick - (5/10/07) Screamscape sources have given us a little more information about what exactly is wrong with the heartline roll. If the rumors are true the G-force tests spiked between 6-7 G?s during the heartline roll, making the experience a little too intense. To solve the problem they had been dialing down the launch speed out of tunnel, but to get the G-forces in check the train barely had enough momentum to complete the run and was running a high risk of valleying in the second half. So at this point it seems they have no choice but to wait for the new track to arrive that will reign in the G-forces in the heartline roll.
Do'h
Just as i guessed, its too bad, that must feel awsome
-
Cedar Point just posted on their website that the heartline roll inversion is being replaced with an s-curve section of track. Sounds like another coaster we know, doesn't it?
-
:o
I hope they get a 50% off deal or something because that is total BS!
-
Wow, thats a big OOPS on the part of Intamin...Maverick went from Great to Good just like that....
-
Which begs the question...after the experiences they have had with Top Thrill Dragster and Perilous Plunge, just to name two, why does Cedar Fair keep lining up at the INTAMIN window?
-
B&M won't produce the rides they are looking for I suppose....I can totally see a Dive Coaster in CP though, but Intamin pushes the envelope and CF wanted that however they got bit in the butt with the gamble....
-
Millenium Force ?
it's done when its done I just hope in mid June
THe best part of the ride
I knew it was to good to be true
that was looking awesome with it so low to the ground
must have been to rough ??
-
Yes, too rough, It I think flew outta the turn into, Imagine Viper's rolls, but MUCH faster....
-
Where do you see that posted on Cedar Point's site? I couldn't find it.
I didn't realize that it was in On Point. (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/index.cfm)
-
Apparantly they only update the blog lol
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/index.cfm
-
LOL, I love how they make the "S Curve" sound awesome....
-
That's dissapointing about the heartline roll. :'(
-
My link wasn't good enough Wade? :P
-
Haha Maverick has been "Chilled"
Almost the exact same situation too!
-
The new Track pieces has arrived and is now being installed.
And ready for me at Coastermania ;)

SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2007 ? Round up your friends and get ready for one wild ride this summer! Cedar Point amusement park/resort has announced that Maverick, the park?s newest roller coaster, will make its much-anticipated debut on Saturday, May 26.
To help commemorate its grand opening, Cedar Point will distribute free Maverick T-shirts to the first 3,000 riders on the coaster on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, May 26-28.
?We are thrilled that Maverick will be up and running for the holiday weekend,? said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. ?Our guests have been very understanding and patient with us as we made these changes and now the reward is theirs ? a ride on Maverick!?
The coaster?s debut was delayed so that four sections of its steel track could be reconfigured and fabricated. The new sections of track were installed earlier this week.
Prior to the ride?s opening, the park will host a ceremony to recognize the winners of the Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross First Ride Auction. Participants placed bids to be one of the first riders on the $21 million roller coaster.
With its multiple elements and terrain-hugging layout, Maverick is a coaster like no other at Cedar Point. Maverick will treat its riders to a thrilling journey over more than 4,400 feet of steel track that will twist its way through rocky canyons, over ?airtime-filled? hills and around quick but smooth changes in direction. A 105-foot-tall first hill followed by a drop of 100 feet at an incredible 95 degrees, a twisted horseshoe roll which features back-to-back inversions and a second launch through a completely dark tunnel where guests reach speeds of up to 70 mph are sure to thrill.
Recently, IntaRide, the ride?s manufacturer, revised the rider height requirement. During pre-opening testing, IntaRide determined that riders must be at least 52 inches tall to ride.
-
Wow that was fast :o
-
heh, got lucky when I hit the webcam and caught it testing :)
-
when I was in the park (15th e 16th) the heartline twist wasn't removed yet... they have been very fast!!!
I saw some test when I was there... I think the train take too slowly the horseshoe... one time I have been afraid that he would have a rollback ::)
-
It opens today, I wish I was there.
-
3 weeks until I ride it :D
come on Chuck you can make it Hmmm (my great great grandma's funeral in Ohio) ;)
I won a Maverick T-Shirt at Eastcoaster
-
I was just able to capture some awesome pictures, from Cedar Point's webcam, of some of the first riders on Maverick!

it looks like a great coaster!!
I would come back to CP only for it! (and TTD, WT, Raptor & Mantis :))

What about Millennium Force?!?!?!?
-
Great reverse POV. I really liked the camera angle because you can see exactly what riders will experience during the ride and the different directions the ride throws riders. Maverick looks great! I do not think it will be all that disapointing without the heartline roll. I can't wait to get back to Cedar Point. Sadly, I won't be able to get to Cedar Point this season. :( Anyway, the two bunny hops looked like they offer a decent amount of airtime.
-
I was just browsing some roller coaster websites and came across the best video of Maverick out there! It can be found on coasterimage.com and is probably one of the best videos coasterimage has done! From watching the video, it looks like Maverick flies through its course and is extremely smooth. WATCH this video, you will NOT be disappointed!

What about Millennium Force?!?!?!?
I would not come back to CP for MF... I don't like it a lot... maybe if I'm in the park I would ride it, but... ;)
-
This is the first on ride video I've seen of Maverick.
Not really a POV and lots of screaming!!!
Maverick On Ride Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIm3kYnLjNA)
or
Maverick On Toledo Blade (http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070601/NEWS17/706010341&SearchID=73283156277700)
My favorite part is when she thinks the ride is over when the enter the launch tunnel.
Looks like I need a trip to Cedar Point...I haven't been there since the mid 90's.
Wicked Tweister, Millie, TTD, and Maverick would all be new for me!
-
Looks like the most airtime you can get at that park...that isn't saying much though.
-
Ogolo if you haven't been in CP since 90's, you had miss also raptor & mantis ;) they are very good coasters! ;D
-
Neither of them are particularly good apparently.
Raptor's 2nd half is apparently more boring than Disaster Transport and Mantis apparently isn't very friendly to males.
-
ehh, I wouldn't be so sure about that. Minus the crotch crushing of course, I actually liked Mantis. That first loop with the hangtime alone makes it worth the ride. Raptor to me is like the Hulk, it kicks major ass in the first half and then is a sleeper.
Keep in mind that where lore1991 comes from, these coasters are probably still better than anything local in Italy :)
-
Disaster Transport is awesome!!! Mantis isn't too bad, the fact that they run the coaster with mid-course brakes off makes it much better and intense IMO - same goes for Raptor... they can run it without the brakes and it's a good ride. The helix at the end is pretty intense.
-
ahahhahhahahah wadej maybe you're wright ;D
however, in my opinion Katun is better than mantis and raptor ;)
but i like them a lot! so silver, don't miss them when you'll be there :)
-
here is the official POV of Maverick!!! :) :) :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bybo5o_Dqzs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bybo5o_Dqzs)
-
Maybe it's better in real life, because that actually looks boring.
-
That video makes it look SO slow. In real life, you feel like you are taking all of the transistions/elemtns ATLEAST 2 times as fast. You'll see in September Chuck. You'll see.
-
I enjoyed the tunnel part at least = )
-
Time to unsticky...
-
Xtremecoasters has an insane Maverick video. Check it out! http://www.xtremecoasters.com/index.php?act=videoDownloads
-
Thanks for the link. Thats a nice video but wow is that POV shakey. Is the ride really that rough or is it just a crappy camera?
-
I would say more along the lines of the crappiest camera holding skills ever.
-
Why do they always have such horrible music on these coaster videos!
-
^ I was thinking the same thing.
-
Why do they always have such horrible music on these coaster videos!
Really!? I like how the beat of the music goes along with the ride. I thought this music was cool for this video.
