Six Flags Great Adventure is holding a contest (http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=69421318512&topic=13285) on their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/sixflagsgreatadventure) to, well, enter a contest. But wait - it's pretty cool!
Here's what's going on:
There is a contest from now until next Monday that will let you win a chance to participate in the Spring Break Stride-A-Thon on opening day next Saturday, March 27th. It's pretty easy to enter the contest, and all the information can be found here (http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=69421318512&topic=13285).
What's the Spring Break Stride-A-Thon? Well, 7 people who won the Facebook contest, along with "guests" (hmm? I guess picked at the park) and riders from 94.5 WPST will get to ride Bizarro for 8 hours consecutively. The last person standing on the ride will win a VIP pack for 4 that includes "a personal tour guide, front-of-the-line ride access, complimentary meals and much more!"
I know I'd never survive this, although I do hope we can watch! Good luck to all those who enter!
-
Is that a VIPeter tour? ;)
At least the picked a ride that is not so easy to re-ride.
8 hours? I don't think so.
-
I can give it a chance that someone can ride bizarro the whole eight hours, since bizarro is smoother than silk.
-
I Might actually try this. Ill try and get it in my schedule

dude id go for ten hours on that ride. i just cant get enough of it.
-
SAme i think im going to try this!
-
I'd love to merge the topics but our currently system isn't very uh, customizable in how to do it. (Also known as it just stacks by time so I can't keep my article as the news topper).
And you guys are nuts. I had three hours or so where I could ride this nonstop and I had to give up and lay down after 7 or 8 rides.
-
Not all of us. Make it Rolling Thunder and I am so very there...along with Rich and Sue and.....uh....uh....
-
I don't think even Dan would want to ride Rolling Thunder for 8 hours.
I could do Nitro.
A couple of laps is more than enough Bizarro for me. Just doesn't hold my interest.
-
I could not do 8 hours on RT. But I would love to do 8 hours on Nitro!
-
On second thought, I'm sure Nitro's helix would do me in before the 8 hours were up. That's the only really intense section of the ride. The rest is just plain fun. I could do 8 hours on Diamond Back. It's helices are not that brutal. Same for Apollo's Chariot. SFOG's Goliath is way too intense for marathoning. I rode it non-stop for an hour or so and I called it a night before ERT was over. It's just too good.
-
Nitro is probably the only one I could joyfully marathon like that. I know I can do Kingda Ka...but it does hurt after a bit. El Toro I would love to do, but around 12 I start to feel a little funny. I used to run laps on Medusa, but now 8 is my limit. Even with about a 30 minute break between lap 8 and 9, I still felt it very strongly. There's apparently a big difference between 18 and 24. :(

Ever marathon alpie? a lot of fun other than the whiplash in the first brake-run.
-
Make sure you post here if you actually enter the contest so we can see your entry!
Seems a few people have started posting their pictures.
I hear they will also be having the flames on extra high for those 8 hours.
-
GASM ride-a-thon now THAT would be painful.
-

No, the second half of that ride is so dull, I get bored after a couple of laps. Big Bad Wolf on the other hand... I could ride that for a week. If only... :(
-
This event should get National Press / TV coverage
great free PR advert.
As long as it doesn't turn ugly

I remember marathoning it when Drachen fire was SBNO during hurricane dennis. No one was there and it was the only ride other than wild maus(now at BGA)that I could go on. I was less than a half an inch short to ride nessie... Which is now my favorite operating ride ever since BBW...
-
at 25, I've done everything each row one after another last season, but "quickly walking" around is what made me dizzy on some rides like batman, the nitro helix has it in for me if I keep my hands up. I get bored on Bizzaro around 8 times, so I don't know... and the whole recreating my facebook.. :(
-
Remember the guy from the radio station that was going to ride The Dark Knight 100 times on the opening day for the ride. Hopefully this turns out better.
-
Yeah, my eighth grade trip was on the rides opening day...
-
94.5 WPST is going to discuss their part of winning a chance to be in this contest tonight.
From their nightshow page (http://www.facebook.com/pstnightshow):
Could you be the "Last Rider Sitting"? Contestants will ride on Bizarro, only stopping to let anyone off, and continue until there is one rider left. Winner will win a VIP tour through the park (which includes front of the line passes and complimentary meals). The contest will happen on Saturday, March 27th! Since you are a fan of the nightshow, YOU will find out exactly when to call tonight! Listen for details!!

Probably so. Makes the contest even more enticing. LOL
-
Still wondering if Bizarro is going to be open to the public opening day. I guess it would, with one or two trains for the public and one for the contest?
Although how many park visitors want to be up there with the puke buckets, i don't know!
-
This is a really interesting contest. I love how there are two parts to it. I'd definitely love to compete in the Stride-A-Thon.
So what pictures are your favorites of the ones entered so far?
-
there is a nother way to get on the ride you just have to listen to 94.5 pst. they have pass to the event to that how I got my pass.

There is a FACEBOOK contest as well as the radio station contest . If you visit the facebook page you can enter the contest there as well by posting a photo of you in the park having a Six Flags Day . It is NOT only through the radio station .
-
Glonek, It'll probably open after 4 or something like that...
-
I won the photo contest so I will be competing in the Stride-A-Thon on Saturday!
Anyone have any tips on how to last as long as possible? I'm pretty confident that both my guest and I will be able to ride as long as is necessary to win, but any tips would always be appreciated :)
-
Don't eat McDonald's for breakfast and wear something warm.
-
Eat a chessy bean burrito at taco bell!! and throw in a fiber one bar for dessert! ;D
-
Wear some warm clothes and eat a light breakfast . You may also want to take some headache meds before hand as after 7 or 8 rides on media day I needed them really bad . Depending on where you sit you may have a really loud speaker . GOod Luck and enjoy !!
-
That's awesome coasterdude, and I wish you the best. Have you ever done any riding marathons like this before?
I was able to do Kingda Ka 20+ times without getting off, but at 5 or 6 on Bizarro I had to give up. The twists and turns are brutal, and normally I'm fine on it when it's just once or twice lol.
But whatever you can do to feel great and not get sick!
-
Thanks everyone :)
I plan on getting a really good nights sleep and eating something light, like a granola bar. It's going to be cold so I will dress comfortably and maybe wear something with a hood that I can use as a pillow. Ear plugs or earbud/headphones are going to be a must to block out the loud speakers.
^And no, this will be the first time I compete in a marathon. I have ridden rides many times consecutively before, but never anywhere near what this will be.
-
Do they pick your seat? If I got to choose, I would sit in the middle.
-
And towards the front of the train.
To be fair they should really rotate seating once in a while.
-
I'm not entirely sure how seating will work. I'd imagine they will place us in the rows and rotate us every once in a while.
So far only one other person has said she won on the facebook page, and she seems pretty confident. I'm hoping she's all talk.
-
Everyone talks smack on facebook...
I wouldn't want to ride on the front for atleast 5 rotations, since you start getting wind rash and it's very irritating.
-
^Since it's going to be fairly chilly, I will probably be wearing a winter jacket with a hood that can block off most of my face if necessary. When I say I will be prepared for this, I mean it. lol

Congratulations Coasterdude!
8 hours for a pack of Stride gum!
I know it was our support at 3:00 PM that pulled you through.
-
Wait, he won?
-
YEAH MAN! GREAT JOB!!
-
So I'm back now and I'm still cold. And I mean chilled to the bone. That was fun but absolutely brutal.
We started out with about 18 riders and after three hours we were down to 8. After 4.5 hours we realized nobody was getting off until the end. It then just became a battle against time instead of the other people.
In the end, 8 of us finished the 8 hour marathon. They took us off the ride and escorted us "backstage" and into one of the trailer buildings which was actually pretty nice. They definitely weren't expecting 8 of us to last the entire time, but then again neither was I. They told us they would give one of us the grand prize and the rest would get an "All Inclusive Pass for 4". They drew our names out of a hat to determine the grand prize winner......and I won! It was so satisfying to win that after riding for so long.
Anyway, SF did a great job yet again with this contest and promotion. Even though it was painfully difficult, it was a lot of fun.
EDIT: And for those of you wondering, we got two 10 minute breaks throughout the entire thing. One ofter the first 3 hours and one ofter the next 3.
-
Wait, he won?
And, you say that as though you had no confidence in me Steve, lol. I had that thing locked up before it even started. :)
-
I wished you good luck and gave you a nice hand shake before you came in. I was just asking a question because I did not see a 100% confirmation on it :P
So wait, what did you actually win? It said much more so I want to know all :D
-
^Lol I'm just joking around. How was the first day of the season from your side of things?
And the prize was a VIP tour for 4 including a tour guide, front of the line access, meals, and "much much more!".
The other 7 people got "All Inclusive" package for 4 which sound like a similar thing but with no guide.
-
I edited my post ha
Went very well. I am really excited about this year.
I wanted to know what the much much more part was. I can read the front page you know :P
-
Well, I also got a pack of Stride gum. Is that the much much more? I think the much much more was in reference to what you get with the VIP Tour. Maybe an on-ride photo or free games or stuff like that. I'm not entirely sure.
For me I'm just happy I completed this. I was successfully able to defend my title from the scavenger hunt. The prize is just a bonus.
-
Did Angel stick around the whole time too? lol
-
Angel was there for most of the day but left after about 6 hours. She didn't come back after that as far as I know.
I must say that the entire PR group, including Angel, Kevin, Paul, Dory?? and everyone else was awesome. They are all so good at what they do and it was really nice to spend the day with them. Keep up the awesome work PR!
-
Wow, congrats. I don't think I would last an hour.

Yup :D They have a great crew :) Congrats! I'm with Matt - probably wouldn't have made it past 1 or 2 hours on that ride LOL
-
congrats, I went on bizzaro a few random times throughout that day and was suprised when I saw that the same 8 were on it around 5pm as 2pm. I didn't think anyone would be leaving at that point.
-
I see der point.
Wow, who just HAD to.
-
Haha I got a litle chuckle out of that one.
-
^^^Yea, after about 4 hours we all pretty much realized that nobody was getting off. I'm still surprised that 8 of us made it the whole time.
And in case anyone was wondering, my entire body was sore on Sunday. I'm just now starting to feel normal again, lol. Doing that couldn't have been good for my health, but it was fun :)
-
Was it rue they put the flames extra high?
-
Ok CoasterDude time to keep that crown.
How about 6 hours on the Cyclone at SFNE!! Ouch..

Oh no way.
Hey, at least it doesn't go upside down?
-
^^yea...I'm going to pass on that one, lol.
