Title: Old Photos Scanned from film
Post by: PcMan on March 25, 2008, 03:55:59 PM
OK I'm a few years older then most on this board ( but feel as young as I did 20 years ago ) and I used to take a lot of pics with my old Olympus 35mm FILM camera and parks I visited in the 80's early 90's
I also been a ACE member since 1985 and went to a few Eastcoaster and a very small amount of local events back then.
So I decided to look through a box loaded with old pics and SCAN then.
I will post a few here in the much reduced resolution from the originals I scanned.  If you want the original pic in its high res. version PM me.
I will post here in around 800pixal width as I scan them so this link will be ongoing may take days / weeks so come back and see more
I also have some Hercules Media Day and Construction ,Georgia Cyclone, + Morey kamikaze +

Eastcoaster 1989 display, Pic is of the New World record Height and Inversion GASM \/. I also attended the Media day event need to find the pics

I really miss Journey to the Center of the Earth at Dorney.  That was a great ride!  I also really miss the old loading station and tunnel on Thunderhawk.

All of these pics are awesome Tom.

That looks like Mark Kane in the background of the GASM media day shot.

The Ultra Twister lift hill seems too much for a 10 year old! I stick with that story.

It's selfish to wish for, but I wish Rolling Thunder still had Douglas Fir under the steel rails.

Actually its weird to look back at these pics because when i think of that time it didn't seem old
I don't want to post any of the pics of me
the shorts are shorter and pants are tighter  :D

Awesome thread and awesome pictures! What model Olympus camera were you shooting?

I really like the houses you can see across the lake in this photo:
http://pcman.us/images/coaster/dorney/drop-800.jpg

Does anyone know exactly why Hercules was removed?

Title: Re: Old Photos Scanned from Film

I used a old Olympus 35mm point an shot
a small cheapy around $100 back mid to late 80's
it was also "weatherproof" so i took it canoing all the time and took many pics in Wildwood and other places over the years
i loved that camera

This scanned from prints on my flatbed scanner.
i did crop and reduce the resolution to fit the forums

here is that same pics in its original scan

Great find! I really enjoyed that video. I laughed when that one guy said it was smooth. Tom, was it smooth when it opened or was that just smooth for the time?
Title: Re: Old Photos Scanned from Film
Post by: PcMan on April 16, 2008, 09:16:46 PM
Not sure but i think it is rougher now , maybe since it was new and tight, smoother when new.
but this was the tallest coaster in the world for a few weeks (until Magnum opened) and it was a perceived smoothness for its size.
seems like it was yesterday

Hmmm

when will Kingda Ka loose its crown  ?

After looking at Tom's Hercules photos, I remembered a priceless onride photo of me and my Aunt.

Here's the onride photo-cover. The first drop looks awesome.

Here I am with my Aunt in the first row. This picture is from July 1998, which means that I was not quite 8 years old yet.

Eastcoaster 1989 display, Pic is of the New World record Height and Inversion GASM \/. I also attended the Media day event need to find the pics

I know this is a big old bump but this model is actually located in the Sky Tower at Magic Mountain for those of you who didn't (as well as those who did) know. Innervision and I both were able see this incredible masterpiece in life and let me tell you, 3D renderings may be the wave of the future but real life models are so much cooler.

I did not know that it was stored at SFMM

Early February 1989 \/
Keeping these small at 800 wide originals around 3000x2000 or what ever
(actually looks like the photo is auto sized to 550)

This is the Location of the Station if you looked at the coaster from the Q entrance \/ I have a picture of the coaster finished in this same location as many others I'm sure do

Great Pics Tom.

Just a FYI - if you do a full reply and click advanced options, uploading the pictures through there instead of just remote linking will enable the ability to click on the picture to expand to the full size.

Great Job with the scans....And please, if you have any others, I would just love to see them !!!
