Why is opening day this year on a Thursday?
-
I'll be there on that Saturday.
-
So who is going to the park this weekend and what day? I am planning either Friday or Saturday or both.
-
Shoe, I should be there sometime on Saturday. I need a Toro ride.
-
I am thinking sometime on Friday ! Hope Kingda Ka is open my son is finally 54 inches !! WHOOOO !!
-
I'll be there as soon as school let's out tomorrow...stupid rules against senior cut day. I'm going tomorrow, Friday, and Monday. Here's to a great season guys! :D
-
hopefully saturday but who knows?
-
I'm hoping to squeeze in a trip with my boys on Friday. We have a soccer tournament on Saturday so that isn't happening.
-
We usually like to attend opening day when possible, but a weekday doesn't work for us. This weekend we're hitting Kings Dominion so our first GA visit will be Sunday, 4/15. If anyone will be there then, let me know!
-
im goin friday anyone wanna meet up?
-
Typical opening day...
Good thing I was there to see friends more than ride coasters.
-New security checkpoint added before the ticket booths
-1 train El Toro operation (didn't have the patience to wait)
-Ka is being Ka (not that I care any more)
-Extremely crowded. They must have sold a ton of season passes last year.
-SkyScreamer is much taller than I expected. It does look very nice in the skyline. Hopefully it has a pretty light package.
-Parking lot...still not paved.
-Coasters After Dark - May 4
-Fall Family Fun night has become Fight Fest Preview- Sept 21 Probably due to the early FF operations.
-
Predicting Fall Family Fun Night is going to be packed to the brim because they don't really care who gets in to the park that day.
-
Did you happen to notice what side Rolling Thunder was running?
-
Yep...Right side was operating.
Heard there was lots of old lumber lying about, so maybe it got some TLC.

SO the crappy side?
-
Both sides on rolling are running today.
-
Why do they slways run the crappy side when they
Only run one side of Rolling Thunder?
-
Is this a riddle...?
Q) Why do they always run the crappy side when only running one side?
A) Both sides are crappy. Therefore regardless of what side is running, it will automatically be crappy.
Your Welcome Matt! Anymore brain busters? ;) ahahha

The "left" track is actually quite good when running well. I've gotten airtime on virtually every hill after it rained, but the "right" track sucks no matter what. And they ALWAYS operate the the "right" track when they go choose to only run one side of the ride.

Here are some pictures I took with my phone this past weekend. Enjoy!

Those pics are nice. Thanks! I have yet to sneak in my first visit. Things have been hectic for me.
-
There's no way that thing is 240 feet...
-
There's no way that thing is 240 feet...
Yeah I am going with the original 150 foot height they originally said.
-
So that gangbuster rumor about us trading SkyScreamers with Fiesta Texas was a hunk of bull. This is why I don't like the rumor mill...
-
I was pretty sure SFGA's Facebook said the height was changing? Let me see if I can find it.
Yup, their website says it's 242 feet. Clicky (http://www.sixflags.com/greatadventure/rides/skyscreamer.aspx).
SKYSCREAMER BY THE NUMBERS
Height Restrictions min. 48"
Ride Category Thrill (MORE LIKE THIS)
Introduction Spring 2012
Height 242 feet
Speed 40 mph
Swing Distance 48 feet

Edit:
Is that just a bad angle for the photo? They have one on their Facebook where you can clearly see it's about twice the height of the Big Wheel (unless it's Photoshopped hah)

is the red part of the tower really that long? or are my eyes shot?

Yeah its weird. I don't remember it looking that tall in the other pictures either.
-
I hope you all know that you have a killer park on your hands. Very lucky.
-
I made it on Sunday for a quick trip 2 hour trip at opening.
One nice change is they no longer hold guests back by the fountain at opening.
They let the crowds wait in the boardwalk area until the 10:30 AM opening which really avoids the big crowd surge.
I suppose they realized most people don't want to see Bugs Bunny open the park.
Even the security guards were saying it works out much better.
Operations were much better than opening day and the new security gate seems to help out.
The park started getting really crowded around 1PM.
Maybe the high gas prices are going to give the park a boost attendance this year?
Or maybe it is the super cheap season passes.
