HOLIDAY WORLD TO ADD HUGE COASTER, NEW HOLIDAY

SANTA CLAUS, IN-----The world's top "air-time" wooden coaster was announced this morning as part of Holiday World & Splashin' Safari's largest expansion in its 60-year history.

"The Voyage is going to be an air-time machine, with riders experiencing a feeling of weightlessness for a total of 24.2 seconds," says Will Koch, the parks' president. "We're taking the traditional out-and-back layout to the extreme, with the steepest drop on any wooden coaster in the nation. The Voyage will be 1.2 miles long, placing it among the planet's top three longest and fastest wooden coasters."

The Voyage, which will be part of Holiday World's new Thanksgiving section, will feature three drops of over 100 feet, with the first drop's angle of descent a steep 66 degrees. The top speed of the three-train coaster will be 67.4 miles per hour.

"The Voyage will have five underground tunnels9which is a world record," says Koch. "And some of those tunnels will be wide enough that we'll roar through them twice, creating a total of eight Runderground moments,' one of which will include a Rtriple-down' feature. We'll also have two sections of extreme, 90-degree banking."

"For 2006, our focus continues to be family fun," says Koch. "We know our guests don't like to stand in long lines, so we're investing heavily in increasing capacity in both parks."

Other new attractions for 2006 include Bahari River, an action river for Splashin' Safari. The Thanksgiving section in Holiday World will also include Gobber Getaway, a turkey-chase-themed interactive "dark ride"; large restaurant; and more.

The expansion for the park's 60th Anniversary Season will total $13.5 million. Koch predicts a 10-percent increase in attendance next year, plus the creation of 100 new seasonal positions.

Holiday World will open for the 2006 season on May 6. For more information, log on to www.holidayworld.com or call 1-877-Go-Family.

I am now marking your words Alex! " BEST COASTER OF 2006"

We shall find out in the next 347 days. I watch the video a lot and I still can't  believe how long it is.

For the year maybe, but the whole decade?  I hope not.

Though it is fairly long.. it is only the 3rd longest in the world.  I suppose beast is still the longest and i have never rode it before.  I can only imagine how long it really is.

Well...I strongly suspect THE best new wood coaster for 2oo6 is currently under construction in New Jersey.

I guess we will just have to wait and ride.

And there is the little matter of a fine GCI being built in Kentucky.

After the rides, then we can argue.  :)

Aren't opinions grand?

Yes Nick, The beast is long but it also has a trim every 400 ft the train travels. Also I'm not sure about the lift's speed but it took us two days to reach the top of Beast.  I only see this having one slow spot  the entire ride. Besides the lift hill and brake run of course....goes to watch the video AGAIN to find it.

Then there's the second longest wooden coaster in the world....which will quite definitely throw you for a loop (and make you wish there was a brake every four hundred feet...)

^I had fun on it, maybe not my knees but the loop was cool. It wasn't as bad as Mean streak. The Voyage should be a great comfort ride compared to the first four on that list.

What you guys don't realize is there is a 100ft elevation from the lift hill to the back end of the ride, which means that when it is on the return trip, it will barely lose ANY speed. Someone on CB said that at the end of the ride it will still be going 50mph!

This thing is gonna be amazing....August couldn't come sooner!

Alex, I realize all that , but at 1:48 from tunnel to tunnel the ride slows down. Which was my point "one slow spot on the ride"  Not sure where I was misunderstood from saying the ride is slow? Yes, May 6th  can't come quick enough or when ever I get there.

I didn't look at the video again, but I bet that the slow part is a nice, flat piece of track that in actuality will serve as a MCBR.  Holliday World said that the brakes there will not trim the speed at all when The Voyage is in operation though.

What is this? Did we lose our record already? Or did we beat theirs out and just some misinformation.

Try 76 degrees!

And yes, it will be the steepest drop on any wooden coaster...

They, like Cedar Point, haven't gotten used to not having the record anymore.  HW got it worse though since they didn't even get to open the coaster and it was beaten.

Now, make that just a bit steeper, a bit smoother, lengthen the queue a bit (not everything is an improvement), and look over your shoulder at the new, recently improved best running ever Rolling Thunder with Rich and Sue in the front seat!  (Hey, a man can dream, right?)

So I get to ride this bad boy in October.

According the HoliBlog... the trains are in the park and they will begin testing this ride by the end of next week!

As far as this being the best new wood for 2006.. we shall see. That is a pretty far fetched desicion, being as how none of the new wood is open to the public and an opinion. I believe it will be an awesome ride, but give it 4-5 years and then tell me its still better than El Toro... I have a feeling El Toro is the most under-hyped coaster ever built (and that's MY opinion)

Rob - Who can't wait for Holiwood Nights... 7 hours of night rides on The Voyage should be pretty fun!
