*please note, in case of bad weather Nitro will be open instead.
That's sounds like a nice event for a great cause. If I'm off , i will be attending this event.
-
ahhh, beat me to it. And I thought I had something nobody knew yet LOL
I'm there as well if I'm around :)
-
very interesting. That's awesome that Great Adventure is holding this event for Toys for Tots and the Salvation Army.
-
Uh-oh. Last ride for the 2009 season? if i heard that correct it sounds like what they said for medusa. Iwant to do this but how much do we need to donate? cuz i have truck oads of stuff just sitting.
-
With Medusa they put a sign up for it. They wouldn't tear Kingda Ka down without a huge media release, anyway.
They're doing this because it's for charity and they want to build good PR.
-
This thread is about the park is trying to do something NICE.
Why you are even mentioning Kingda Ka being torn down? Geeze!!
And yes I will try to be there too.
-
this seems really cool I'm glad GA is doing this.
-
I just saying... I'm glad Six Flags is doing this too. And If I'm open for the thirteenth I would be very happy to give to charity.
-
Very neat idea! We're hoping to attend. Rich could fill the park with donations! Get to ride a coaster and give to people in need--sounds like a win/win to me.
Now can we just hope KK is down so that we can ride Nitro instead? ;D
-
Yeah, if it rains, I'm in. :P
-
If there's a cloud in the sky, we'll end up riding nitro.
Still good in my book!
-
I am going to try to be there. It would be a great end to the season and for a good cause.
-
Very cool idea I have to see if we are around I would LOVE to go for a great cause .
-
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D! This sounds soooo frikin cool to me. Because i never went to hoilday lights. And i don't care if it is a rainy day because nitro is my favorite sfga ride, then kingda ka, then bizzaro, then batman, after that, superman, next el toro, and runway train.
Not to menchion all for a great cause!!!
-
1)They stopped holiday lights like three years ago, and this is the first time they're doing this event.
1.a)None of the rides were open anyway.
2) You put superman in front of El toro?
(It's your opinion and all but that got my attention)
-
Six Flags had winter lights for 01-02 and 02-03. It was a drive through like PNC bank did.
-
Speaking of Winter Lights That was something that we enjoyed . I wonder if it just didnt bring in enough people to keep it running or was it that people expected something like Hershey has.
-
I remember going in 2001. Hazy, but in my mind. It was pretty cool seeing all the coasters with snow on them.
-
just $5 to go on ka without donating anything?? i don't get it..
superman? idk.. too hard for me to rank. I love them all now, even gasm. superman breaks too much for me to hit every row in a row.. it always gets stuck for 20 minutes with me over the brake run after several rerides every single time i tried it this season..
-

$5 IS a donation to the Salvation Army to help them in their work.
-
I am going to bring a TOy for Toys for Tots ... Gotta love them give to them every year and now I get to enjoy a ride for it !!! YEAH
-
Kingda Ka in freezing temperatures is amazing...plus thats how you get your rollbacks. :)
-
I want a rollback soooo bad. Is it fun?
-
It's scary the first time. The second time it's pretty fun.
-
I am so there. This is a great event and a really great cause for Six Flags.
-
ahh. thanks. cash is my easiest and most frequent donation, I'll guess i just show up during that time frame, give cash to the salvation army along with the bag of clothing i never wore, to go on ka. seems easy, just getting there after work on a friday is the hardest part since I can be anywhere in NJ.
-
It wasn't scary at all. It was dark when I got mine so the only way I could tell was due to the red tower lights going the opposite way they usually do.
-
when was your last rollback?
mine was in '05 before the launch track broke.
-
My double rollback was April 2007.
-
No one cares Clint...geezzz!!!!
haha
-
I've never had a rollback D:
-
No one cares Clint...geezzz!!!!
haha
Those cold weather rides were probably some of the best rides we had, wouldn't you say so?
-
so who is definitely going Friday? (add to the list below) the weather looks like it will be nice as of right now...
-Matt Shoe
-
I'm still tentative.
-
I will be there working. I hope a decent amount of people come out. Its for a good cause.
-
I'm waiting 'til the day before to decide. I don't trust the weather at all.
-
I'll be somewhere working. Say hi!
-

-
I'll be there.
-
Rich and I will be there as well.
I don't want it to be nice or KK will probably be open. I SO want a night ride on Nitro--it's been ages! It sounds like it's going to be quite well attended too and KK just doesn't have the capacity (especially if they run 1 side).
-
On the flip side, if Ka is running then fewer attendees are likely to ride and if they do, they will likely only ride once :). Although if Nitro is running 3 trains that would likely make up for the additional riders and re-rides lol. The weather looks shaky at best right now so we'll see.
-
Hoping for a little bit of clouds.
-
Looks like the weather is shaping up just like the rest of this fall.
-
Weather is changing and it looks like a Rain event UGH .. I wanna go but just not in the rain . We will have to see .
-
Just saw this over at History.
El Toro + Ka if it doesn't rain.
And just El Toro if it rains.
Makes much more sense than Nitro on the other side of the park.
Can anyone verify this?
-
If that holds true... I might actually be there around 6-6:30
-
The website still only says Ka, and Nitro if it rains.
-
Just to make sure it's clear guys- from my understanding, El Toro is the new backup ride in the case of rain instead of Nitro. This is simply because of it's closer proximity to Kingda Ka. From my understanding, they will not be running both at the same time if Ka does manage to run.
With that said, this event is on RAIN OR SHINE!
-
The way the weather is starting to look, it seems like Dark Knight and/or Skull Mountain would've been the better choices.
Please let the weather be wrong this time!
-
^I'm banking on what sue said about the weather
-
wowww I cannot believe the weather went from pretty nice to extremely crappy. If it's pouring and they will still run El Toro I am there!
-
damn rain forecast..
-
according to facebook; "Hey guys, unfortunately the Hope for the Holidays event is cancelled this evening due to inclement weather conditions :( We'll let you know if we reschedule, so stay tuned!"
-
IT is also posted on the Offical web site as being cancelled . What a bummer :( . Hope they can get it together maybe for next weekend . I guess we will have to wait and see .
-
Bummer :(. Can't say I blame them though. Hopefully word gets out there soon enough.
-
Bummer...I was really looking forward to going. I don't think the rain is the problem. I'm pretty sure the 25mph winds are whats causing trouble.
-
Keep an eye on our Twitter feed. We broke the news early this morning, and we'll keep ya updated as much as possible. Sometimes it's too hard to post and super easy to tweet when we get "Breaking News"
-
Is that still true?
I noticed this in the Great Adventure event calendar.

yeah. I'm getting a little jumpy about it right now since I spread word to some of my friends at school. Being the jokers they think they are, they tell me it's either today or tomorrow(for the past 2 weeks). I've been looking at twitter since it got delayed, no word yet.
-
The new date is Sat March 27, 2010!
-
Big Delay, for a charity event.
-
lol. I'll be there that day either way, time to drop off at the drop bins.
-
My guess is 'no'. It's no small feat to open one ride in the off-season, and they do have annual refurbishments to get started. The weather just hated the park this season, even when it tried to do good. :(
-
Isnt that near opening day?
-
probably is opening day.
-
March 27th IS opening day.
-
I just wish they'd officially say "no" so we know once and for all. I'm guessing it's "no", but I'm still holding onto our donations just in case it still happens.
-
Yes it is opening day. (That was the joke.)
I suppose I should be more direct next time! ;)
I believe they would have announced a date by now.
They could at least host a drop off day with no rides.
-
if its rescheduled to dec it could be the donate to charity to experience a rollback on ka event. :D
