100 Days!
-
LOL Here we go again.
-
465 .... wait next year is a leap year I think. 466
-
OUCH! Put that number away Bubba. Toooo Depressing! Thats my HWN`s countdown, and it`s too damn long.
FYI the Cedar Point hotel reservations just came avalable today. I booked 3 nights in Breakers Express for under $300. If you book through Cedar Point make sure you enter the promocode MANIA and it will save you just over $30. I believe it`s 10% off.
-
I'm with Bubba!
-
Depressing. I'll be skipping this year as well. I've got enough travel coming up that will leave my wife stranded with 3 kids and a newborn.
-
I'll be taking my buddy Mark for his first voyage to Santa Claus. Can't wait!
Bubba, you really not going?
-
no, I can't afford two weekends away back to back. At least I get to see 8 mile the week after HWN. ^ Can you at least get me a shirt ?
-
I'll see what I can do.
-
Hey Matt... Now that the Voyage is officially shiza ;), and nobody is making it to hwn`s this year, and all the awesome ppl are going to mania, why not change course and head to the point. For Funzies... lol.
But seriously you should. Magum till 1 am. How bad could it be. HWN`s in 2012 will be xtra massive with a 2011 skip.
-
ps. 95 days
-
As much as I LOVE Magnum, night rides on Voyage rule the world. There is nothing else I'd rather be doing than riding it over and over again under optimal conditions. NOTHING.
-
The world is composed of wildly varying people! I'd rather have ONE ride on the Cyclone at Six Flags New England the first year it was open than to have a week on Voyage. Voyage is a fine coaster, but El Toro is finally getting the recognition it so justly deserves.
In fact, I will go so far as to say Voyage isn't even the best coaster at Holiday World. At least not in my book. But then I'd just start raven about a fine ride in that park which deserves to be a legend.
-
The only reason I might really miss going to hwn 2011 is if they actually have the timberliners running (well, and hanging with really fun people). Those trains could really be a game changer for me at least.
-
Something tells me that if I think the Timberliners dramatically improved Voyage, Matt will think they ruined it. And vice versa.
At least we agree about Son of Beast.
-
Loved the pun Wow, I think everyone can agree about son of beast. Anyways, I love Magnum, it will always rank higher in my mind than Millenium Force and will sometimes rank higher than Maverick (front row only...). Magnum would be much higher in my mind if the trains were more spacey, but the thigh shot from the epic air time on the return trip I can easily deal with after riding it for the first time.
-
Magnum is all about the back B-Mac.
I found Raven, and Legend closer to Voyage than I had expected but certainly not better. I could see it going that direction after a few trips.
Riding Voyage in optimal conditions is great. Last year at my 1st hwn`s I actually sat in the pizza parlor for an hour waiting for darkness to take the first trip on the voyage in full dark... worth the wait. Wear sun glasses too, the turnaround is insane!
I agree with Wows comments about the timberliners.
-
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
-
My flights are booked for HolIWood Nights. $210 round trip: Philly to Louisville. Yay for Orbitz!
-
If I only knew where I might be coming from, I might do the same. At this point, I am not sure what I will be if/when I grow up.
Wow: Always tell the truth, no one will ever believe you!
-
A little off topic...
Ocboulderfest.. Would anyone recomend this for a first trip to LC, or would a summer trip when it's open till 10 be better? I've all but ruled out the haunted graveyard for a first trip due to the weather and my expeience at kennywood this past october. I'm a little antsy about this trip because BD, and Bizarro are the last of the epic coasters in NA i've yet to ride. I know there are tons of good rides still out there but to me these are the last huge ones for me. After HW last year as happy as I was to finally go, I felt equaly down that I had one less plave to look forward to. Matt I'm sure you had the same feeling after Blackpool. Anyways I'm just nervous I might be less enthused after I cross off these 2 last rides. Rides like Prowler, Thunderhead, I305, Appolo's just don't have me dying with excittment. I guess I'm lucky that I still have any epic rides left to experience. Alot of you need new rides to be built every year to get a new ride.
Anyways to recap.. Summer, Haunted Gaveyard, or Oc boulderfest?
and is it at all reasonable to do LC, and SFNE in a single day? I worry about what to do with myself all day at LC. Does the skyride operate at OCboulder? I know it wont during HG due to the only operates in light issue.
Thanks for any help, eh
-
OcBoulderFest is a great time to experience Boulder Dash and most of the park. It's right on the edge of when they shut down the skyride for the year though. The skyride is a fantastic experience itself, so if you could get confirmation from the park when they schedule to have it closed for the season, I'd suggest that. You might luck out. And you'll get a ton of night rides during ERT vs. only a few in the summer, BUT you could have a great time on summer Saturday as well.
If you get a gold Qbot at SFNE, you could do both parks in the same day, but I'd HIGHLY recommend against that (not the Qbot part). How about you go to Quassy and LC the same day and SFNE the next day? Both Bizarro and Boulder Dash do not open running in top form. You'd be best off experiencing both of them in the evening.
LC has some great water rides and flat rides. You could fill a day there easily. If you take your time exploring SFNE, you could get a full day out of that as well. Quassy is an easy "stop in for a bit" park.
P.S. Finally getting to Blackpool wasn't bitter at all for me. It was a huge relief actually. I finally accomplished it and can now look forward to future re-visits if it works out, but it's not nagging at me anymore like it did for the last 21 years. Coaster-wise I am running out of big ones to visit, but that's ok as I have other travel goals to focus on once I run out, plus it means I can focus on revisiting my favorites. :)
-
My flights are booked for HolIWood Nights. $210 round trip: Philly to Louisville. Yay for Orbitz!
:o
-
That makes summer the better choice cuz oc boulderfest sunday SFNE closes at 7. Plus i`d prolly leave at 4-5 and drive home, rather than spending an extra night.
-
Well if you'd be up for staying until park closing, I think 7pm would be plenty late enough to get a good day in at SFNE. You just don't want to ride Bizarro at opening and then leave. It doesn't need all day to break in.
However, going in the summer would give you more flexibility for everything, so that may be your best option, especially if you want to really enjoy everything The Lake has to offer. That said, Boulder Dash ERT at OcBoulderFest is second only to Voyage ERT at HoliWood Nights unless you're not hardcore like me. :)
-
Should I hold my new ride count at La ronde to only 5 so that Bd could be my 100th coaster? LOL
La Ronde has a lot of bad rides I`m sure I could pass on.
-
Do what you want. I've never made any effort for "milestone" rides. In fact, I have no idea what any of them are except, I think the kiddie coaster at Kings Dominion may have been my 500th, depending on what I count (duelers, racers, flume coasters).
-
you should try and get the kiddie coaster Marche du Mille-pattes as 100. That would be a milestone. lol
-
No, definitely that indoor Dragon ride! ;)
-
100 Beast, 200 Super Flight, 300 le Boomerang, 400 Namtab St.Louis. 500 ??
150 locosomo 250 Head spin 350 Viper sfmm 450 air.
I wanted 250 to be the Big Dipper and 350 X2 but i lost count and ended up with those : )
Matt... LOL, Dragon would of been 300 but that turned out to be the chocolate boomerang lol
-
I'm thinking l'edfor des l'atrtract... hahaha what a great theme.
-
Did the restraints open up on le boomerang for you two.
-
Nope, nothing exciting happened. :(
-
Is dragon decent? The flume there looks cool. Origional built for expo 67.
-
Dragon is totally LAME! We waited about an hour for it. Total waste! I don't think we managed a ride on the flume, which is kind of shocking considering we're both kind of flume enthusiasts too. It wasn't a very good day at the park. Long lines, Horrible operations, missed some credits. We saw Dainan there though! He loves that place.
-
What day of the week did you go
-
Saturday of Columbus Day weekend. Sunday at Marineland and Wonderland was MUCH better.
-
whats columbus day? ;)
-
Wasn`t it PPP weekend?
you only spent a half day at CW... What credits did you miss
-
We went the weekend after PPP that year. W went to Marineland at opening on Sunday and stayed there for about 2 hours (rode Dragon Mountain about 5 times), then hightailed it back up to Wonderland and played from about 1pm to 5pm, then went to dinner why they closed down to prepare for Haunt. Then we went back from about 7pm to midnight. It was a great time. We got all of the credits except for a kiddie coaster I think. Stunt Track was closed until about 11pm when we finally got that. We rode Vortex and Behemoth three or four times each and everything else once, except a re-ride on the powered mine train, because it was so badass. We even got on the Sledgehammer flat ride and did pretty much every haunt, including a show.
-
Would it surprise you to find out Thunder Run is considered to be neutered in comparison to how good it used to be?
So PPP isn`t always the second weekend of Oct.
Did you ride Sockwave... Best flat there is
-
No Shockwave. We didn't want to throw up!
I think PPP was early that year because of when the weekend fell. It's always the weekend of the Covered Bridge Festival, not necessarily the second weekend of October.
-
Rode shockwave in flurries this Halloween.. Insane
Thunder Run Commercial 1986 :)

PS 3 month till HWN, and CM! (to keep with the thread)
-
So I guess now I'm going to HWN.
-
boooo!
What changed your mind
-
We're planning a tribute to Moosh.
-
shorter Magnum lines for me... how did I know this was your doing?
-
It wasn't me, I swear. ;)
-
Had Moosh not passed, I would have done CMania. As it stands, I'll likely be doing the Point in July now.
-
75 Days!!
and I may have booked a room for Ocboulderfest today. The website has it`s own countdown. 173 days.. lol
-
Cool. Hopefully I can make it this year. I was really bummed about missing that BD ERT last year.

35.5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :PPPP

Those Canadians sure like to count down in decimals, don't they Bubba? ;) lol
-
The metric system is decimal friendly.
-
Trust me, I know. Just a little joke between me, Bubba and the Boomerang ride op at your Wonderland. ;D
-
The one thing I found out about the metric system is that the U.S. government is 0-6 on trying to shift into the metric system. Why can't they be like Canada and have both?
-
Because the american people are stubborn and ignorant. We don't like changing our ways unless it's easy and convenient.
-
So basically lazy?
-
Yep.
-
Old people here are basically Americans then.. lol
My guess is 45 and up don't understand metric. Imperial is however the universal launguage of tradesmen.
-

3 - 2 -1 - 0.5 -0.2 best ever !! haha

I, for one, am a LOT older than that. And I was taught the metric system and told that the old system would be gone by 1975.
Didn't happen.
-
Do you feel cheated?
Just move up north and put that knowledge to use.
-
It's cold up there and covered in snow! ;)
-
Live where I live and you get the best of both worlds.
Good weather, free healthcare, people are nice, and if you want to head to the US for some cheap gas, and groceries... it`s an hour drive. Covered in snow.... sounds like something a guy who uses the imperial method would say.
Ps 35 days
-
lol I was referring to the beginning of the 360 show at the Epcot Canada pavilion. Canada is awesome.
-
Epcot's Canada is too epic. Much better than the America Pavilion...
-
I haven't seen this epcot you speak of since Captain Eo was playing. 1987 I believe.
The better my dollar gets the more I like America. lol
In all seriousness though our two countries offer a nice mix of Similarity, and contrast. What I mean is visiting the other is all too similar but you know that your not home. I think Wendy's helps the overall cause. lol
-
FYI Captain Eo is playing again.
-
Not a fan of the new canada film @ epcot. Still one of my fav pavilions though. And imo, the film montage @ the end of American Adventure put to golden dream is just freakin awesome. :)
-
Really? The Canadian video blows me away. It's so uplifting and exciting. Never has propaganda ever worked so well on me. It makes me want to live there, then I remember it gets cold enough here. It's such a beautiful country! I'd love to explore all over it given enough vacation time. Dare I say it looks more beautiful than our beautiful country.
-
Have you seen the new one that was just put in last year? Maybe I just didn't think Martin Short was that funny. I liked the old movie better but think the new one certainly has better cinema value... Except for Short. Just like the other shows with celebrities (Ellen???), it will seem dated quickly.
Btw- I certainly don't hate it lol
-
Yes, that's the one I'm talking about (I've seen it twice in the last two years). Dan and Clint loved it too. I found Martin Short's narration to be mostly good, aside from a couple of super cheesy moments. Never saw the original and had no expectations at all the first time I went in to see it. It was the highlight of my day at Epcot... until we ate at Nine Dragons. MMMMMMMMMM!!!!
-
Wow have we gone off topic lol. Have you eaten @ Canada? I think its one of the best places on property. Although I'm a lame picky eater lol
-
No, I wanted to try the steak house, but now it's been upgraded to "deluxe dining", I'm not sure if I will. Nine Dragons is just so good!
Don't worry, Canada Boy will bring us back on topic with his countdown shortly. ;)
-
Well, before he does, I wanted to point out that I'm ok with the bump it just got. It was crazy that you had to book at least 6 months in advance and no chance of a walk up all due to the dining plan. Now at least it should open up a little.
-
33
-
martin short is naturally cheesy. his Jimmy Glick Character is classic.
-
Great, we're back on Epcot until Sunday. ;)
I did like the part where he said his parents "just so happened to have a circle vision camera" when he was a young boy. lol
P.S. I haven't made it through the Energy Pavilion since 1993 and I've been back there six or seven times since. When Clint found out they had dinosaurs, he was upset we missed it.
-
When I went to epcot I was 8... and I just kept thinking why are we here when the rides are in magic kingdom.
-
I was about 14 my first time there, had already ridden about 150 roller coasters, yet I still loved Epcot, even before all the exciting rides were added (like Test Track and Mission Space). It was weird, but I always wanted to go back there instead of the Studios park.
1 day closer!!!
-
I was 6, lol. Who would've thought I would be tall enough to ride rock n' rollercoaster... Been back there about 5 more times and I still feel like a kid.
-
I was 43...and determined not to like Disney. I failed. Now DisneyLAND is one of my favorite parks...
-
29 days
-
30 for me. ;)
-
I loved the Canada movie. That combined with the recent Olympics makes me want to visit badly. My buddy Don has been trying to get me to come and go to Wonderland.
-
29 till waldameer on thursday...
The olympics made me really want to go to BC, and not just to ride coaster.
-
Coaster is a splendid ride....It's Phare, and that's a very good thing!
-
Splendid indeed!
-
It was a bit of an inside joke... The point was that Coaster should be considered a bonus included in a trip to vancouver.. Not the sole reason to take a trip to Vancouver.
-
Some joke.
I've been there many times.
Coaster drew me there.
It's a fine city and a great time.
But Coaster is more than enough reason to go.
At least for me.
-
In summary if you don't believe coaster is the greatest feature of Vancouver you will have your spunk retracted. Duly noted ;)
-
Well, I wouldn't go that far! (But I guess I did! :))
Seriously, Vancouver itself is a fantastic fun time and there is much to do. Coaster is a very small part of that. But if Coaster was all there was in Vancouver, I'd have gone anyway! And loved the trip....
-
I've day-tripped there from the Seattle area twice just for Coaster. It was so worth it. Someday when I have enough vacation time to take more relaxing trips, I'd like to experience more of that area.
-
OK let me try to reword this... and let me preface this by first saying I have never been to Vancouver and subsequently haven't ridden coaster.
From what I know about coaster it is worth a special trip, much in the same way comet at great escape is, Shivering Timbers at MI, or RF2 at Waldameer. All smaller parks with 1 great wooden Coaster. The point of difference I was trying to make is that for any of us the only reason to go to the cities where these parks are located is for the parks, and the rides. Vancouver however is.... well, I don't need to get into it but obviously worth the trip even if it didn't include coaster. Obviously any of us would hit up coaster while being there. I wasn't trying to say it's an after thought.
A good comparison would be going to New York just to ride the Cyclone. Which somehow sounds more reasonable to me. But obviously New York has much more to offer. That's all I was trying to say. If coaster was anywhere in the US, or Canada it would be worth a special trip. It just so happens it's located in an amazing tourist location.
As a side note if you want to see a great hockey game, watch game 5 between Nashville, and Vancouver on Saturday. The place will be rocking. Do you guys get hockey night in Canada on Saturdays? Does Vs. pick it up?
-
Comet at Great Escape is not worth a special trip. One of the biggest disappointments in all of my travels (both times I visited). Hopefully some day I will get the good rides people rave about. So far it's been no better than Hershey's Comet (in its current neutered form).
-
It's not worth a special trip, but it's better than Hershey. Plus when you add in Hoffman's bumper cars and Sylan Beach fascination it's " Winning "

I'm told we need night rides on it. I have yet to make the trek up there, but if we hear of a chance of night rides, I might make the special journey up that way.
-
I heard that too, but I've had 8pm rides and it was just as slow as 11am. :(
-
Comet was wonderful the year it reopened from Crystal Beach. Since then...oh, look over there, a Pronto Pup!
-
You can't imagion how sad it makes me thats it is not still located at Crystal Beach. Wow did you ever ride it at CB? I was there when I was about 3 or 4 and obviously missed out.
-
I used to watch video of it at Crystal Beach while it was in limbo. It looked so amazing. When I found out though ACE that The Great Escape was resurrecting it, I was ecstatic. I couldn't wait to get there and ride it. I made my first visit there in 2001 and was deeply disappointed. It had zero airtime and it was even a rainy day, so it should have been flying. My buddy and I left the park and decided to use our SF season passes for an impromptu bonus park on our road trip and went to Six Flags New England that night for the first time and were blown away by Cyclone (which I also had years of interest in) and the new Superman that I hadn't heard anything about yet. What a surprise that turned out to be!
-

Sad to say, I did not get to ride it at Crystal Beach. I didn't even find out about the coaster until it was already closed there...
-
I may be one of the few to have seen it live, and yet have no memory of it. Does anyone know if CB has any signs of once hosting a park? If so I'd go check it out one day. I live very close.
