Title: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: Robert T Ackerman on March 22, 2008, 12:01:34 AM
http://www.aceonline.org/fliers/HoliWoodNights08.pdf (http://www.aceonline.org/fliers/HoliWoodNights08.pdf)

The event is May 23rd and 24th. It should be an awesome time, it was last year. For those of you who haven't ridden The Voyage and you are going on this trip, you're in for a treat if you like aggressive/out of control woodies!!! The Raven and Legend aren't too shabby either, and seem to run MUCH better at night and during the events (I'm thinking HW tweaks the rides a little before the events to make sure they run their best)

Here are some of my pictures from last years event...

I also forgot to mention how we are "navigating" this trip.

We (myself, George, Clint, and I think Matt) will be flying out of Philly, landing in Lousiville around 11 am Friday morning. We're staying at the Santa's Lodge across the street from the park, staying 2 nights. Between the 2 rooms I booked, I can fit a max of 10 people(if you buddy up in the beds) with the beds in the room and fit an air mattress and/or cot in each room, so add 2 more to each room if need be. As of now I have a total of 7 so there's room for at least 3 more.

Saturday we might try to make a run down to Beech Bend in the morning before the night rides start at Holiday World. Sunday will be a SFKK day and then we fly home around 7:00 p.m. that night

Yeah, late night Voyage ERT is the holy grail of wooden coasterdom...if you like your woodies intense like we do!

I still don't have my itinerary finalized. I really want to go to Indiana Beach on Sunday and somewhere else on Monday to make the most out of my 4-day weekend. Might do Kings Island on Monday. I'm a slut for night rides on The Beast and love me some Top Gun and still need the Italian Job credit.

^I wish I could join you on that entire trip but it just doesn't seem likely. I can TRyY to swindle something at work. I'm thinking maybe I can ask for Monday as one of my days off from work for the following week. If I score that, it's on!
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: overlord on March 23, 2008, 12:15:12 AM
I would be down for the whole Kings Island as well. I will probably have my Platinum Pass by then so it will be free. I have to see if George would be able to do that. If he can't, I can't.

Make him go!!!

Why can't you go if he can't??
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: AV Matt on March 23, 2008, 01:16:54 AM
Yes! Do it now! We might not even need a car if my buddy Clint Beavers makes it as planned. And we can still stop at SFKK for a credit run and some Anton lovin' before heading up to Indiana Beach.

Make him go!!!

Why can't you go if he can't??

Because he is my traveling partner. Plus my parents would not like that.

So we are contemplating trying to figure out away to get another park in to the mix if we fly home Monday night instead... Dollywood is what we are thinking. Clint/George... how does that tickle you???

I really have no desire to get to PKI again... so we were thinking either Dollywood or SF St. Louis.

No no no no... no need to apologize.

These are good ideas... SFStL would be free, but kind of out of the way and they'd have 2 new credits for me... plus The Boss and Mr Freeze...

Dollywood is totally new to me... ahh the options. I hate you Matt. :)

I like the Dollywood idea. We get to ride all these top rated woodies in one trip!

Well... minor change of plans for me. I am  getting transferred to a new Wendy's and will only be able to spend Friday/Saturday out there. I'm still staying at Satan's Lodge though.

Yes... it's the section that you have to run through really fast because there are large guys dressed in all red trying to stab you with pitchforks.

No trims!!
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: Robert T Ackerman on May 20, 2008, 08:33:06 PM
I sure hope not. I read on a few places that the trims were on Voyage during regular operating hours. I'm almost positive they will turn them off for the event though after the park closes. (I really really hope)
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: AV Matt on May 20, 2008, 08:42:01 PM
I'd imagine they will be off for ERT, but maybe not during the day. I'm curious as to how much the affect the end of the ride. I think my last visit was about a week before the trims started being used.
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: Robert T Ackerman on May 20, 2008, 08:44:17 PM
According to some, the trims only affected the Triple Down... by the time it got out of there, and into the trick track, it still hauled through the remainder of the ride, thats the only part I'm worried about as it's my favorite section of track on any coaster to date.
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: AV Matt on May 20, 2008, 08:49:07 PM
My favorite moment on the whole ride is probably the S-curve double down where all Hell starts to break loose, but the triple down is mighty tasty as well.
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: Robert T Ackerman on May 20, 2008, 08:52:30 PM
^ I should have re-phrased that. I'm really not a huge fan of the Triple Down, or the first two 90 degree turns. I meant to say my favorite spot was from the "trick track" all the way until it hits the final brakes. Most intense coastering ever. Just picture Tsunami's helix speed on Boulder Dash, with a little more twisting... Oh boy.

I can't wait for the splash down!
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: Robert T Ackerman on May 20, 2008, 10:18:10 PM
Those LIM's are off the hook... the splash down would be better if it got the crowd soaked.

you guys suck   ;)  ;)  ;D

Also to much work around here got to pay the bills

but yes I also love the way this ride is like a workout, at least it was when i was there in the summertime.
got off the ride sweating like a pig and worn out.
and I LOVED every minute of it.

ride one for me   :D
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: Robert T Ackerman on May 21, 2008, 12:11:59 AM
Last year after the first night, I rode it 26 times. We got up the next morning and I was so sore. We hopped on Legend, and my chest, shoulders and legs were sore. I found out later that riding it "limp" will make it much more tolerable. I was riding it holding on during all of the intense parts (the entire ride), bracing for the worst. The next night, I left feeling great, like I just visited a chiropractor!
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: PcMan on May 21, 2008, 12:20:03 AM
you can't fight it  it will win (thats why I was sweating, plus 90+ degree and pain killers)
just let it take you on its voyage.

it took what 25 + years to top The Beast in its intensity (pre Beast trims) and almost length.
how long will it take to top the Voyage  ?

Just like will Kingda Ka height ever get topped or not ever when.  HHmm

edit:  What 26 times  :o  dam

edit:  What 26 times  :o  dam

I ended up with 49 rides between the 2 days. I was shooting for 50, but we "dilly dallied" too much during the day on Saturday, and I wasn't lucky enough to make it into the station before they closed the queue. The people in there that were sitting in the middle rows got about 5-10 extra rides each night.

Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: Robert T Ackerman on May 21, 2008, 12:43:29 AM
If you do, I suggest going for an event or a day they are open past 8:30, which is rare. I went once or twice on "daytime" visits, and I really didn't like the place all that much. Honestly, I still don't like the park as much as most people, but the night rides on all 3 coasters are amazing.
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: Millennium Force 44 on May 21, 2008, 12:48:20 AM
Does the park get really crowded during the day?

yep
my visit out there i think it just started getting dark and we had our last rides in the back seat (i think)
and it was crazy wild

like Matt said its the change of direction while going downhill that gets you that out of control feeling that i love.

INTENSE

goodnight

Depends on the weather. They have quite a few rides to keep lines somewhat low. If it's hot out, the water park gets packed. We went on weekdays and it wasn't too bad, the only downfall is 1 train ops when it isn't too busy. Voyage always has 2 running, so thats a plus.
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: Millennium Force 44 on May 21, 2008, 10:38:26 AM
oo. Don't the coasters at Mt. Olympus only have one train each? Do the lines ever get bad there?
Title: Re: Holiwood Nights in 3-D!!!
Post by: ChuckR on May 21, 2008, 11:08:39 AM
Yeah, they only run one train on there coasters there. The lines usually aren't bad because everyone is at the waterpark and they dispatch the trains really quick as well.

Geez, I miss that place.

On weekends, Hades usually has a 45-60+ minute wait. And the other woodies are under 15-minutes. Then Avalance, right down the street and immensely better, is a walk-on regardless of the day.

here is Tsunami below \/

I know if i rode Avalanche i would love it if its like Tsunami

remember on youtube under the video on the right there is a selection for watching it in so called "high quality"

Tom, Avalanche is ALMOST as good as J2 was. Avalanche was my number 1 woodie until Voyage came along. Then Avalanche became my number 3 after I rode J2. It's THAT good. Fast and furious, airtime a plenty, delicious rib-slamming laterals, and never a wait!

Dan, here's a question for you, El Toro or The Voyage?
Here is my view The Voyage is much Longer and has Tunnels and travels back into the Woods much Like the Beast does.
So its a very Different coaster
Like Apples and Oranges I like both but I like Oranges more (The Voyage)

Hmmm.  I, for one, muchly  prefer Rolling Thunder to Voyage.  Then again, I prefer the Wildcat at Compounce to Boulderdash, too.  :)  At HW, my favorite wood, by far, is Raven, which I could happily ride for days on end...
