So I think we've all heard the rumors that BGT is getting a new coaster soon, probably in 2011.
I think we've all also heard the rumor it will be a B&M Hyper. But rumor has it now that it will not be a B&M hyper, but still very large in size. Mind you the rumor is from screamscape... Assuming this is true and it's not a BM hyper, and that it is still large, what do you think it will be? Imagine a double GG at the two Busch parks next year. Here's to dreamin.
-
Given the experience Busch has had with their GCII set down in Florida, I would not hold my breath expecting any wooden coaster there in the near future....
-
I can pretty much guarantee that it won't be wood. Is Florida finally about to get a substantial Intamin?
-
They should expand the megalite layout and include longer trains (8-9 cars) with better restraints and roomier cars though. But it wouldn't be very Busch-like to go the cheaper route and buy an Intamin when they could have a more reliable B&M. Of course with the new owners I wouldn't expect them to be as anal-retentive in the quality department as the Busch entertainment company of old was known for.
BGT already has an awesome woodie. They just need to figure out how to keep awesome and enjoyable for the masses.
Edited to clarify. The new owners are more likely to do a better job than the most recent owners, but I doubt anyone will treat the parks the way they used to be treated. There was always a little extra something under the old ownership.
-
Uh, it's not this new owner I'd have been most worried about. While InBev owned AB, that's when cuts were made and decisions that may or may not have been good for the longterm but certainly were good for the short term financials were made...
-
I don't think it will be an INTAMIN. The last INTAMIN ride they installed at at Busch park was Escape From Pompeii, and apparently they swore off working with them after that experience. Of course things can change, but I wouldn't bank on them working with INTAMIN.
-
Edited above for clarification. The new owner is likely to do great things, (Inbev was slowly killing the parks), but I don't think any new owner from this point on will hold the parks to the original extra high level of quality--the likes of those stories about the coasters' maintenance areas always being spotless for example.
-
How could you be worried about Blackstone owning the parks, when they own parks like Island of Adventure who have even more theming than Busch Parks, and they maintain the parks well.
-
Have you been on spiderman lately? Blackstone is 100 times better than Inbev for the Busch parks but trust me, they are a money company and the Universal parks are really showing it.
-
Mhm they should get a B&M Hyper and puti it in BBW place and name it Riding hood
-
Uh, Big Bad Wolf was in Williamsburg, this discussion is about the Tampa park...
-
B&M flyer is going where BBW I predict. About the Tampa thing, it could really only be intamin or B&M. Who else makes "big" steel coasters?
What exactly makes a megalite? Matt you mention expanding on it. I thought being small, compact, and affordable was the whole point. Is Farenheit similar to a megalite?
-
Which brings up an interesting question...is ChanceMorgan ever going to sell another large steel coaster? Are they even really trying to?
-
I completely forgot that there is an extremely good Morgan coaster at a Busch park... Steel Eel at Sea World San Antonio. I'd be up for giving Morgan another shot at building a killer steel coaster. Something on the scale of Apollo's Chariot, but with the punch of Steel Eel and Phantom's Revenge would beat any Intamin or B&M.
Intamin Megalite layout is this: http://cache.rcdb.com/pictures/picmax/p24331.jpg (http://cache.rcdb.com/pictures/picmax/p24331.jpg)
It's a little small and low on capacity for this park, hence lengthening the trains and making the layout larger.
-
I've seen a megalite before I just don't overly get what the differences are between then and something like Fahrenheit, or even maverick really. They don't have inversions, and they seat about 2/3 the ppl/train. But what else? What do they cost approx? Fahrenheit was 12 mil.
Morgan hasn't made any coasters since 2004, but still listed as in business on RCDB. On their website they still offer 300,200, and 150 hyper coasters.
I'd bet the chances of seeing another are about as good as seeing another B&M stand-up. Ha maybe more like seeing a B&M floorless in N.A.
-
Uh, Big Bad Wolf was in Williamsburg, this discussion is about the Tampa park...
Haha oops.

Not sure how much they cost (might be listed on one of the RCDB pages), but being an Intamin product, they will cost less than a comparable B&M. It's a mini-hyper style coaster in a compact layout. Fahrenheit is similar, but focuses on inversions. Megalites focus on airtime hills.
-
megalites are anywhere from $7.5 mil to $10 mil. They come in different sizes and that's the big price factor for them.
-
So far they all (four) come in the same size.
-
I must be including piraten and exped. ge-force in this then. Cause I thought they were mega-lites.
-
Piraten is a megalite (a production model). Expedition Ge-Force is a larger, custom hyper coaster.
-
Yet again, I'm getting my coasters messed-up.
-

What are they called?
-
Here you go:

-
^Thanks.
All four of them are foreign. We should put one in Kentucky Kingdom!
-
Uh, SIX is taking coasters OUT of Kentucky Kingdom. Twisted Twins hasn't run for quite some time. The park is...uh...CHANGing.
-
Oh, WHAt did they do with Chang? ???
-
It has been moved to Six Flags Great America, where it will be....well, that hasn't been announced yet....
Stay tuned.

So basically megalites are to hyper coasters, as mini-me is to Dr. Evil? In all seriousness though wouldn't expanding them just be a hyper? I guess you could just add length and not height but then you would be in a similar price range as a hyper anyways. The Megalite in Japan was said to of cost 14-15 mil.
Quick rant on Fahrenheit again.. How much better would it be if the layout after the 97 deg. drop was more like a megalite, and less on inversions. I'm guessing cuz 6 inversions appeal to the GP more so than a WHOPPING 0 INVERSIONS! haha. 97 drop + Norwegian roll + megalite layout would have been dope.
Back to the topic. The more I think about this the more I think this is smoke and mirrors. The next BGT coaster has gotta be a B&M. Doesn't it?
-
Parks make business decisions on what rides to put in, based on many factors, from cost to maintenance to ride appeal to relationships with manufacturers. I would point out to you and others that Busch has been very much in play during the past year or so...to say the next coaster has to be from any particular manufacturer is to view the industry as a rider or enthusiast would. Put yourself in the shoes of management to the extent you can. Much more perspective is gained that way.
-
So basically megalites are to hyper coasters, as mini-me is to Dr. Evil? In all seriousness though wouldn't expanding them just be a hyper?
No. This is subjective, but here is my take...
Typically a hyper coaster is an out & back design (not Raging Bull). And it appears the Mega-Lite is a production model (all four installations thus far are the same design) and it is a compact almost twister style layout with the airtime hills of a traditional out & back design, but has lots of curves to pack all of it into a small footprint.
My comment about expanding a Mega-Lite meant to maintain that tight, compact, airtime-filled twister style of layout, but make it larger and with "full-length" trains. I was aiming for essentially the same layout, but with larger elements to accommodate the longer trains. You can't just drop a 9-car train on a coaster that was designed for a 4-car train. It would change the dynamics and forces exherted on the riders.
-
You could almost make a case for intimidator 305 fitting this mold. Again though massive in height. But it has tight turns and air-time hills. I guess we'll have to wait to ride it to know for sure.
I like the idea of a megalite for BGT now that I think of it. BGT has alot of family's going there and I bet the coasters they have already seem very daunting to younger kids. I know when I was younger I would go on anything... as long as it did not go upside down. A megalite is a nice bridge between (wildmouses, Minetrains,Family coasters) and full size adult coasters that are either monstrous, or have inversions.
-
Yeah, i305 has the style of layout, but obviously its "Giga" height makes it way too large to be an "expanded Mega-Lite". ;)
Hmm, maybe I'll put something together in NoLimits this weekend.
-
Screamscape has reported BGT is making an announcement feb. 25th. Not necesarily about the next coaster.
-
I worked up my idea in NoLimits. I called it a Mega Mega-Lite. And I made it a B&M while I was at it. :)

That sounds like something Cedar fair would call it, Not trying to offend you.
-
It is red.
-
It is red.
Good observation Steve, would you like a cookie?
-
Mr. Kinzel likes red.
Except in ink...
-

It's just the production model name. I purposely didn't give it a real name to maintain the close connection to Intamin's Mega-Lite production model. This is what I meant above when I was trying to describe an "expanded Mega-Lite".

I thought you liked trees ! What's with all the water?
-
I was just thinking that eventually with the way that the economy has taken a hit on all of our parks, that sooner or later some coaster company would come out with something small and for a small price that rocks. Obviously a little bit too late to save a place like HRP, but still... I think these megalites are a look into the future. Bet you B&M comes out with something similar soon.
and by the way, they look just like maverick.
-
I thought you liked trees ! What's with all the water?
Thinking outside the forest this time. ;)
-
what are the stats for it?
-
It's all around AWESOME. Numbers mean nothing.
-
Not even 456?
GADVwow, who just HAD to
-
Nope. It's still a half-assed ride.
-
Still better than 420 though.
By a long shot.
-
Completely disagree, sorry. But 420 is still short of a top coaster as well.
-
That all being said, 181 beats 218 anyday, loop or no loop.
-
I will give you that. But only because 218 is one of the worst designs ever. LOL geek code.
-
unfortunately, I understand all of it.
-
I like the drop and high-speed turn over the lake like the outgoing Big Bad Wolf
I would think they can do a coaster with a similer drop over the lake either
like you have at the beginning or at the end as the hi-lite of the ride
can I here a "Wolfs Revenge"
or is that Wolves Revenge or "Revenge of the Big Bad Wolf"
as the Name of here said coaster or is it already in the works ;)
I have to bust out my nolimits
-
Bigger Badder Wolf
-
Worser Wolf!
-
wolfy the wolf
-
curse of the big bad wolf

rcdb is showing the park will get coaster made by INTAMIN. I'm seeing pictures show up on screamscape links showing footers and landscape changes. And if you look further down on the BGT page you'll see a picture with a possible layout for the ride, primarily showing it's a launch coaster.
Here's the link:
http://screamscape.com/html/busch_gardens_tampa.htm (http://screamscape.com/html/busch_gardens_tampa.htm)
Look a little more than 2/3rds of the way down near the bottom of the page and there's a layout in red shown on the right that you can enlarge for a better picture. The guy says it's around 4,800 ft long.
-
There is also a photo from the factory out there that clearly shows it is Intamin track :). I can't wait for this one!
-
I wonder if it will be a Storm runner design or a maverick design, they both have about the same length and have some interesting elements in their respective layouts.
-
Storm Runner is almost 2,000 feet shorter than Maverick. ;)
-
Really? I guess I spoke to quickly, now it's probably gonna be a Maverick like design then.
-
Yeah. Storm Runner is a pretty short ride. It's very good and well-paced, but Maverick is much more complete yet still leaves me wanting a bit more.
-
Maverick was a lot of fun when I rode it, but yes I do agree with you. The ride left me wondering what could of made it better and I honestly can't think of anything. I just wish that it didn't have the OTSR's, many complain about the cheap jabs you get while riding and that's one of the few things keeping the ride from a higher spot in the rankings. I wouldn't mind if a cousin-coaster is made because that style of ride has too much potential to be wasted on only 1 or 2 designs, there's so many layouts and elements open to it and that really gets my attention why there weren't more built in the last 3 years.
-
See the new restraints on I-305 at Kings Dominion. Perhaps Cedar Fair will see fit to retrofit Maverick some day.
I find Maverick to be superb in the front row...ONLY.

I rode in the second row, it was still very good either way. And after six years of complaint with the OTSR's Intamin steel trains have these days, you'd think they change something.
-
I'm actually wondering how much they might improve Ka after hearing such good reviews of I305 afterwards.

They recently replaced Ka's restraints with what looks to be the old i305 restraints.
(Maybe they got a good price for them?)
I doubt it will be getting the comfy soft version.
-
I would like to get down there when this comes out... this looks cool
-
Wow, look at how off topic we got. We went from BGT to kingda ka, lol.
-
Crap, and it was my fault lol
-
Way to set an example :P
-
Some of the most important information I have learned about this industry (and about life in general) has come during asides. Going purposely off topic is bad. Taking a meaningful aside is not. One must use moderation in all things.
I probably shouldn't have waded there, though.
Or sumthin'.
-
http://www.buschgardens2011.com/ (http://www.buschgardens2011.com/)
Enter code: chase
-
definitely a blitz coaster, and by my guess the ride will be themed to either a bird or a really fast land animal.
Crap, and it was my fault lol
Actually, it was both mine and matt's fault for talking about maverick. How we got to kingda ka is news to me...
-
Going off topic keeps the place interesting. I don't see it as a bad thing here, where it doesn't happen too much. It can get way out of control on other boards with more people (CoasterBuzz), but so far, we don't seem to have trouble with it, so I say have fun and don't worry about it.
All the clues are leading to a Chetah theme at this time. The ride looks like it could be really cool as long as it does more than just speed along the ground and over drawn-out elements like Millennium Force. Hopefully it will be full of acceleration changes (air time and laterals).
-
We are one small site and even though there are more than 500 members, only 20-30 post regularly. I've been on a site with almost 25,000 users that had only one admin, that place was like a living hell because nobody felt the need to follow guidelines.

And at least one nice overbank turn =)
-
One is fine. Four is dumb.
-
Video looks cool low to the ground and fast will make it feel even faster unlike Millennium Force ;) he he
I still haven' been to yet maybe 2011 will be the year
I know I'm missing a great park
-
And it sounds like BG Williamsburg is getting a similar ride in 2012 to fill the Big Bad Wolf's lair.

THAT'S AWESOME!!!!
wonder what they mean by world's firsts?
sucks that WCusa is only gonna get two body slides.
-
Announcement expected tomorrow for the future plans of both Busch Gardens parks. Buschgardens2011.com (http://Buschgardens2011.com) shows the five teaser clips and the last one (enter "speed" to unlock) says they will make an announcement at 9:00 am. The video says it will only be for cheetaka but I doubt it since both parks were making announcements for the same date and time.
-
Cheetah Hunt eh. I'm not really digging the name but the coaster seems pretty neat!
http://buschgardens.com/bgt/Gallery/Default.aspx?tag=Upcoming+Events+ (http://buschgardens.com/bgt/Gallery/Default.aspx?tag=Upcoming+Events+)
Click on the first video. It's 6 minutes of them explaining the ride, and then the new Cheetah exhibit they are building.
Also, my first thought on the Cheetah exhibit was "are they sending Temple of the Tiger there"? ha
-
Yeah, I liked the rumored Cheetaka name better, but the ride looks fun.
-
I am kind of confused on what type of ride this is suppose to be :P
-
It's supposed to be like Maverick, a "Blitz coaster" by INTAMIN. Instead of having a lift hill like on maverick, you get launched all the way around the layout. Cheetah Hunt is going to look similar to maverick other than the tight layout, color, and the themeing.
http://rcdb.com/3570.htm (http://rcdb.com/3570.htm)
-
I am hoping that in the video it wasn't completely right with the physics and looks a little bit more exciting than some parts showed.
-
I know what you mean. I hope that the figure eight in the sky isn't as slow as the video looks.
-
I wouldn't count on it. The figure 8 is extremely tight compared to the rest of the curves on the ride. It might pull some serious G's as is.
-
True, and that 130 ft drop after it looks like you could get some floater air on it.
-
Considering it will have OTSR's, I'm surprised they didn't opt for a beyond 90 degree drop there, and more than one inversion.
It looks like a decent coaster with amazing theming/surroundings. Maybe I'll take a trip to Florida next year. I miss Space Mountain and Gwazi.
-
It won't be competitive with maverick, but it will still be a good ride overall. Both Busch Gardens have not failed with new coasters since drachen fire in the 90's.
-
Well some of us think the dive coasters are lamer than Millennium Force. ;)
This looks better than Maverick to me.
-
We contradict each other, I like Griffon more than Millie and maverick looks better than cheetah hunt. a little off topic, how do you compare bobsleds and mine trains?
-
Both are better than El Toro. ;D
-
...in your opinion.
At least one poster here thinks El Toro is vastly superior to Voyage, and by miles...
-
He can have the Bull. I don't care if I ever ride it again.
-
I never been to Tampa and the Coaster looks awesome
to bad Great Adventure could not have a ride like this
Hmm maybe a coaster/ACE event next spring ? ;)
looks better then Maverick
I love terrain out and back Voyage/Beast type coasters
-
He can have the Bull. I don't care if I ever ride it again.
I know it isn't me, I haven't been in the state Indiana let alone Holiday World.
