I just came across this video on youtube of Xcelerator testing. Check out how fast it goes over the top hat, it almost looks fake. It reminds me of a ridiculous coaster on roller coaster tycoon that goes over hills way too fast. It would be awesome though if Xcelerator and many other Intamin accelerator coasters actually flew over their tophats like this.

^too bad there are trims >:/
-
It seems Intamin didn't design their rides to launch at the same speed every time. I remember once when the radar gun on TTD hit 122. I guess it depends on the weather and how warm the launcher is.
-
There's a video of Kingda Ka rolling back on youtube, it's pretty neat.

This is in remembrance of coaster legend, Ron Toomer.

Thanks for that link. Great footage! Although the BBW footage pissed me off lol

Actually, I believe this video was shot by you wasn't it?
edit: I'm referring to the attachment below \/

Didn't thy also have one on TTD where it stalled right on the top of the hill.
-
Wow, I haven't seen that in a long time. But, no there is a POV rollback on youtube.

Wade, can you attach that file again? It's not there anymore?

I came across this really great video of X (X2). Most of the footage is stock footage, but there are some really cool shots. Check it out.

Amazing what you get when you slap a video camera on a model helicopter!

Definitely worth checking out their other videos.
-
^ yeah saw that on Facebook a while back
-
Always Facebook!
-
Having not riddin X, I often look at video of it and ponder... "how could this not be the number 1 steel coaster?"
It looks so awesome.
-
Far from it.
-
Not even the best steel at that park.
Maybe better than Millennium Force though. ;)
-
Lol definitely not better than Millennium Force, but I do think X looks awesome. I also have never ridden it but it is one of my most sought after coasters to get on.
-
I think we need a Vegas/SFMM trip Shoe... 2014 perhaps? lol
AV- I'm guessing I would end up liking tatsu more. X just looks so impressive. Oh but wait you were talking about ninja, and revolution... am I close? ;)
-
PS 6 months from now all will bow down to Leviathan.
-
X2 has the best Fire/Music of any new re-themed Six Flags coaster. As for best steel @ SFMM, Tatsu wins for me. I Love the height and view from the lift hill followed by the egg turn. Can't believe it's 5years old already.
-
Nitro turned 10 this year. and El Toro is also 5 years old.
-
Yes we definitely should do a California trip. Another coaster that has really caught my interest lately is Flight Deck (Top Gun) at California's Great America. The corkscrew with the lower exit and immediate helix looks insane!
-
^ true. I was just waiting for CF to move it to Kings Island, but I suppose that is no longer in the cards.
CGA is like the 7th best park in the area though isn't it? Knotts, has to be the 2nd option after SFMM.
-
Disneyland pwns all.
Then Knott's.
Then Santa Cruz
Then Magic Mountain
Then Great America
-
Nope, Tatsu is the THE RIDE!
I love me some Revolution and Ninja, but IMO Tatsus is the best B&M of all time!

-
^ Wow just had my mind blown by something!
You said tatsu was your fav b&m.. I tried to picture you on Tatsu and it seemed strange. Then I thought about it. Check this out... I have riddin with/seen you on 8 coasters in total. ALL of them wooden. Never once seen you on a steel coaster.
Voyage, Raven, Legend, Phoenix, Twister, Boulder Dash, Wildcat, and Wooden Warrior. All pretty awesome (minus wildcat).
First steel likely Behemoth/Leviathan/Vortex... Or possibly Viper at Darien, Dragon Mt, or Steel Dragon at Waldemeer.
zoomerang was the best chance so far of it happening, or holidog bone trail or whatever it's called. lol
-
I've been on both Manta and Tatsu and I have to agree. Tatsu was amazing mostly because of the setting and I thought it was one of, if not the best of the sfmm big coasters.
-
The setting makes all the difference for Tatsu. Flying high above the park is amazing! So much better than I ever imagined a flyer could be!
-
I haven't been to SFMM since Tatsu was almost half way done being built. I want to wait to see if what I'm told Deja Vu's replacement is true before I fully decide. Disney's World of Color is almost enough for to just so Eff it and go.
And LOL at Holidog Bone Trail coaster. :)
-
I haven't heard of any replacement rumors for DeJaVu... But Log jammer is being removed :(
-
Cars Land is more of a reason to go, it's impressive.
-
P.S.
The Test Track-esque ride will be the most expensive ride to date. Costing nearly 200 million dollars to build.
-
I've heard a few things the that area of the park (SFMM). I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
-
Rob, X2, supes 2.0, tatsu and terminator are all reason enough to go IMO. And with DCA becoming a must visit park in 2012, it looks like a great year to head out. Btw- I'll never say Chang is rough after riding Riddler again. Great ride but one of the roughest B&M's I've ever been on. Viper (@SFMM) was smoother.
-
Sorry, can't edit my posts using wap...
Yes, that REALLY sucks about log jammer. I know this is the random coaster talk thread but I had to mention how much that pisses me off. It would be no different than gadv ripping out the saw mill complex!
Rebuild it or something!
-
The best part of saw mill is the view it gives you from best of the west... and best of the west is where the pulled pork resides. I love pulled pork! lol
Basing this on one visit.
-
Wade, all those rides do seem like definite draws to go, and the new drop ride... but I'd hate to go there this year, and then see them announce what I'm hearing they're going to announce and kick myself over it.
-
I'm planning a spring SoCal visit. Personally, I like X better than MF. It's maybe 3 or 4 spots above. X is in my top ten, but it is rough. I think that one of those could be amazing if the kinks were fixed.
Still haven't done Tatsu.
-
Care to give a hint as to what you think SFMM is adding sometime in the future.
You do keep bringing it up. There are all those rumors of a launch coaster.
-
Don't listen to him. I305 was supposed to be the new Superman New England. ;)
-
I think they are moving Kingda Ka to SFMM. =P
-
SFMM needs flats badly. The drop tower is a good start but they are in serious need of more.
-
Don't listen to him. I305 was supposed to be the new Superman New England. ;)
I'm thinking that Leviathan will now dominate that category. I'm planning an up north tour next year to stop at SFNE,CW and CP. The highlights will probably be Goliath and of course Leviathan. I cannot put into words how pumped I am for that ride.
-
Wild Eagle West!
-
I've got a feeling Leviathan will be fun, but can't picture it dominating the "speed coaster" category. It'll take a lot for top SFoG Goliath for me...
Matt, don't blame me for that mix up... You know where I got that info from :)
Ken, a hint... You can find something similar in Dallas and Sandusky.
(and as much as I want it to be true, Don't quote me on this yet)
-
Magic Mountain already has a mine train. ;)
-
And yeah, I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed in the B&M Millennium Force. All that height and speed, but just a few elements. I want to ride it, but I can't imagine it being better than Apollo, Goliath over Georgia or Nitro. Those rides do more with less.
-
Well B&M is probably going to introduce their launching coaster design in 2013 at Alton Towers.
In other news:
--A ThemeParkReview user was busted stealing pictures of Verbolten from BGWfans.com without permission. Alvey has been sending nastygrams for the last two days about it. and BGWfans response? They made the pictures on the forums viewable only to members above a certain amount of posts (sound familiar?)
-

Not a mine train... and never said anything about a Dallas theme park :)
-
Hmmmm, just watched a movie by the same name the other day.
-
I was going to use that movie as a reference too but thought itd give it away too easily :-)
-
Nah, although I'm surprised you got it being that I thought I was showing my age. Younger people today have probably never heard of it lol
-
me bein one of those youngins. but how bout one of the very rare GIB coming to sfne? never been on one of those. scared and excited to ride it. scared cuz its vekoma, excited cuz ITS FREAKIN HUGE!!! oh im still tryin to figure out what that mario hammer thing was. im sorry my mind is very slow lately. some things just dont click right away.
-
Frissbeking is the grammar hammer, check out his avatar. He is here to clean up post that are hard to understand.
As for the Vekoma coming to SFNE, can't wait!! The holding break is the best part. It's also a new credit for me since I missed in it La. Hopefully they can keep it running for a month or two.

I definatly agree with this to some extent. The one thing I think alot of people are forgetting about this ride is that the best part of B&M mega's are the drop. This drop is around 100 feet higher than all others. I can't think of another ride that will have a first drop even close to as good as this one. Certainly not on a steel coaster. The restraints alone make it way better than MF. The spacing, and the elements I agree with. The X factors could be these "high speed turns" I don't know how they are going to turn out. They don't look exciting, but they do look like they could offer some serious back seat pull. Another thing to consider is the first cammelback drop is higher than the first drop of Goliath. The turnaround by the front gate looks amazing too but if the "high speed turn that follows is laime, it will be for not. The cammelback that follows I assume will be trimmed and will basically start the end of the ride process. I'd imagion the origion thought was an extra 1000 feet, but the added cost + the removal of a revenue generating go kart track made them decide agaisnt it. In summary I don't want to sound like a hommer here but I believe the elements alone will make this an amazing coaster although flow, and transitions will be lack luster. Kind of like Behemoth ;)

Also word on the street says that there are 4 surprises yet to be revealed about this ride... Who knows to what degree we are talking about here. Is there any chance you could have a splash down after a 300' first drop? I bet 2-3 surprises will be "nothing."
-
I think I found a link of what Rob is looking forward to at SFMM:

3 trim brakes and a really crappy tunnel.
-
Check out this really good footage of the defunct Bat at Kings Island. At about 2:38 you can see the train start to turn while the cars are still swinging on the inside of the turn. Since the track is basically not banked anywhere during the ride, the cars swing like crazy.

WOW thats crazy I seen Motley Crew years ago and he did some flips with his drum kit but this is crazy cool
-
Shoe I can hear those shocks popping and clicking from the amount of force put on them.
-
^haha. Maintenance on that coaster must have been a nightmare!
-
Well it only lasted like 3 years...
-
X2 is awesome. I'm surprised they let you feet dangle the way they do.
Also, Intamin ball coasters look lame, but they pack more of a punch then they seem.
-
The Intamin ball coasters are hit or miss. Sometimes you get an insane flip-full ride, and other times you don't flip even once. But when you get a good ride, they are crazy good fun!
-
I heard the ball coasters were really rough?
-
ball coasters as in the zac-spins?
-
Yeah. It wasn't really rough. It does surprise you when you have no idea where you are going.
-
Yes Shoe.
Wade, they are not "rough" but they violently whip your legs up and down. My first ride on Grona Lund's Insane was a little too violent on my legs so I quickly learned to tuck them back and then I was fine.
-
Anyone wish B&M still made loopers as intense as Kumba and green lantern (one of the last B&Ms before their change in design philosophy). Their newer loopers are so much tamer and slower paced with oversized elements.
-
I'm OK with the lame B&M's. It makes for better re-rides than one and done. For example ..if I ride B:TR the rest of my day is pretty much shot due to a headache from the G's. I must be getting old.
-
I had a blast on the two rides I had on Insane in Gronu Land. I would love for a park in the northeast to get one.
-
They are great rides for smaller parks since the capacity is horrible.
-

I wish their loopers were more like Schwarzkopfs with brief moments of extreme G's among a gentler pace. I think Talon does this really well. Batman is non-stop extreme G's and that's overkill. Kumba has an awesome layout, but it's non-stop positive G's as well.
-
Sorry but when you have to do fighter pilot practices in order not to black out on a ride. It's a bit too intense. Kumba did it right though! Batman is kind of fun for maybe one or two rides and then it wears on you.
-
I loved Batman when it first opened, but as each new one came out over the years, I enjoyed the intensity less and less.
I like intense airtime and laterals, but the positive G's need to be spread out for me.
