Title: my wish list for next year
Post by: me23 on September 27, 2009, 12:57:18 AM
1. A more permanent and beater themed motion simulator ride.
2. A respectable coaster that is 44 inches
3. Open old country to the public
4. Rehab batman (but still call it Batman)
5. Have a Batman show and a lake front show.
6. A drop tower were the batman car is
7. Close the xplurium and put an under construction sigh next the the chillers entrance and have guest talking, next year a fully remodeled, durable chiller comes along (just think how cool that would look the chillers colbra roll and upside down hump above the dark night)
8. A smoother GASM
9. A cool flat indoor ride were the rock climbing wall is
10. A  Ben and Jerry's in every section of the park.
11. HODINIS GREAT ESCAPE TO STAY OPEN PERMENENTLY
12. Reopen or replace tango
13. Me working at the games

Nice list, but a few things:
What do you mean by "more permanent motion simulator"?  That is a permanent structure.  I definitely agree with a better show though.

The Batmobile area is too small to support a drop tower, but there is a ready-to-go pad next to Granny's that would be perfect IMO, and I've been wanting one there for a while.  It already has a queue and utility shed!

GASM is what GASM is.  You can't just "smooth it out" because it's designed that way.  To make it smooth would mean that you're re-engineering the transitions, tearing down the ride, and re-building it.  Not happening.  Just gimmie a new coaster!

I agree with Tango.  Replace it with the return of Rodeo Stampede!  I also agree with Houdini.  It was a lot of fun to finally ride it again. :D

Rj's got a point with gasm. But a motion simulator with the same movie for a while will get boring. The spongebob one lasted like 4 years and at the forth year, there was no scenery with the queue and the line wasn't even 30 minutes long on a good day. So, everything will eventually get boring after a while and will eventually get replaced. Some will last longer than others.

That and the "hump" is called an inside top hat

Looking at the old Evolution site, the only issue I see is the queue is not big enough. After you put in the tower, it does not seem like there would be enough space for a large enough queue line. From all of the drop towers I have been to, I have seen giant queue lines to hold the guests from the midways.

That goes back to my put it in the stunt show arena idea.

The last "permanent" show in the arena was the Batman vs. Catwoman show I believe in 2006?

I remember the year after they had several different kind of shows in the arena but nothing permanent.

Keep the arena, put it where Stuntmans used to be.  How about that?  Plenty of room over there with all of that grass and the "closed area."

The evolution spot has enough room. They just couldn't use the existing queue. They could do the type of queue that wraps around the ride in a circle to save on space like drop zone. Personally, I think it would be awesome dropping through the canopy of trees with an awesome view vs seeing the administrative buildings and some shops ;).

hmmm I know what you mean. Drop Towers do give you a bit more fear than most rides. I don't quite know how to explain what I mean. My home park has a DT and I probably only hit it up once a year. With a coaster you get a chance to forget the layout a bit, or some laps are better than others. But with DT's it's always the same. I don't think many ppl. do them twice in a day, nevermind twice in a row.

However I do agree they are still quite thrilling.
I've said before SFGA should have built one by now cuz the novilty has died consiterably in the past 10 years. Perhaps there is a next generation of DT's in store worth waiting for. For example 500 foot ones... or one that drops into the ground, stops there and capapolts you back from beneath. something like that. I just don't think they are worth 10ish million in todays world.

Well, it is a wish list.  It doesn't have to be realistic. Even if the chain doesn't want one, it still would fill a nice hole in our ride collection...or at least throw some dirt in the major hole we have.

I guess I'm just not a big fan. I went to dorney last year for the first time and the only memory I have of Dominator was the cheese and chili on my "dominator dog".

Marineland near me (Niagara Falls) has one of these timber towers. I wouldn't go to marineland, but it looks daunting! I think Matt, and Bubba went there last year. Marineland also has a big drop tower. 3 towers I believe. Which seems odd cuz nobody goes on the rides at marineland. I would think a single drop would suffice.

Pretty cool when you consider from the top there is a perfect view of Niagara falls.

I like how it catapults up, stalls for a while then drops.

I Think this is a cool ride. This is the Krypton coaster in Fiesta Texas. It has similarity of the track elements with Medusa, But, it drops off by the cliff and has a helix by the cliff. That looks very exciting when you take the first drop coming that close to the cliff.

Keansburg (http://www.keansburgamusementpark.com/RidesChart.asp#Double%20Shot) has a S&S drop tower, granted they aren't a major park.  I thought their drop tower was pretty good.

I found there's to be ok.  You'd think that being on the water would provide a better setting than Dorney, but it doesn't for some reason.  Maybe Steel Force in the distance adds to it.

Timber Towers are totally lame. Tall S&S towers have nothing on Intamin drop towers (old and new) or even the small off-brand towers like at Morey's and Beech Bend. The first generation Intamin drop ride, Demon Drop at Cedar Point is WAYYYY more exciting than their ginormous S&S Power Tower.

Superman Krypton Coaster was kind of disappointing. It has a beautiful setting but Medusa was/is a more powerful ride.
Title: Re: my wish list for next year

Honestly, sometimes you scare me.  Our impressions of rides are usually so similar it is scary...Not unlike Mike from Nashville on rrc.  Then again, I much prefer many other wooden coasters to that relatively new thing at Holiday World, so I guess all is well....

Yes, Demon Drop is far superior to any later style INTAMIN drop ride, in my book.  And I agree, Timber Towers are great rides but not at all intense or thrilling.  They sure look like they would be from the ground, though.

Timber Towers are tame, yet nauseating to me. They are kind of neat to look at. The one at Dollywood has fantastic theming and water effects to really make it more interesting to watch. Knowing that, Bubba and I didn't even bother with the one at Marineland.

Aside from fearing for my safety, I really like the newer Intamin drop towers, but nothing beats the old ones. They are still about the scariest ride out there IMO. Too bad there is only one left in the US (Demon Drop at CP). I'm fortunate to have ridden seven of them and never took them for granted. When I found out Six Flags was removing all of theirs, I was very bummed. :(

The S&S drop towers are just a bore. Somehow they feel completely controlled and more like a fast elevator ride (akin to the Parachutes) than a free-fall experience. Their short shot towers like Indiana Beach's Double Shot are very forceful and fun though.

Post by: rjholla2003 on October 02, 2009, 09:13:18 PM
What about Timber Towers make them merely ok? I mean, the tipping alone should be plenty thrilling. I guess it is possible for it to be like our very own erUPtion, where it looks pretty intense, then you ride it and think "that's it?"

Morey's ride is probably the most thrilling of them all. It feels like you're going to hit the ground every time. The Intamin drops always hit the brakes right before I feel it's too late, but the ARM models go just beyond that point and then have a much more intense braking. The S&S towers lose the free-fall sensation almost immediately, not even half-way down the tower. The kiddie drop towers by Mosier are more thrilling than that.

His name is Claws and he has a claw for a hand. His evil nightmareish plans to destroy Gotham City have come true! Claws has turned Gotham City into his twisted playground. On the ride, guests will face 3 of Claws's deadly traps, just miss the city's most dangerous obsticals.
