It would figure that for the first time, Kingda Ka really is ready with all 4 trains before opening day. Issues with the switch track were supposed to have been resolved as well.
Unfortunately, our sources are telling us that Kingda Ka might not open with the park because they had to order a part for the hydraulic launch. So if it gets put together and inspected before opening day, then it will be a go.
Hopefully if it isn't ready ON opening day, we'll see it back online shortly thereafter.
-
Bummer but it's nice to have that heads up. Nothing worse then running over there only to be disappointed. Any info on El Toro? My wife was pregnant and wasn't able to ride. She is really looking forward to riding it.

El Toro is scheduled to be open with the park on opening day.
-
Well thats a bummer :( . I won't be there till Wed. of that week but i sure do hope it is up and running soon .
-
At least 4 trains will be running when it does open though, I would take that over it being down for a week or two.
-
Any estimate for how long after opening day it will open? A day? A week? A month? Just roughly to get some sort of idea.
-
Word is definately by the end of April.
Btw- keep in mind that there is still a VERY good chance it will be ready by opening day :).
-
Man, I gotta give those mechanics ALOT of credit for what they do, its not an easy job. Hopefully it will be open but im gonna be riding The Bull by the horns ;)
-
What was the maintenance crew size for Kingda Ka?
Was it like 17 full time men or something crazy like that?
-
My local Home Depot has an entire aisle dedicated to hydraulic launch replacement parts! ;)
Hopefully they can get the part and get things running.
It would be very nice to have all the major rides working on opening day.
-
I think there is a local junkyard that has a bunch of Intamin Rockets lying around. I'm sure they could scrounge around for parts there. ;D
-
Hey maybe if they can't get it at Home Depot they will find it at LOWES?? Or ACE I hear that that is the Place for the local hardware man!!
Ok back on topic I sure do hope it is fixed at least by the 4th of may for CAD if not sooner.
-
I'm really really really hoping for thursday april 12th, cause that's the day i convinced my physics teacher to take our class and everyone's looking forward to Kingda Ka.

Does anyone have the status on KK. Are they testing yet or it's still not likely for it to be open on opening day?
-
Hasn't tested yet.
-
It's possible Kingda Ka might be open on Monday :)
(weather permitting of course since it could be raining!)

Nuff Said.
-
Does this mean it has tested?? ::) I would think so if it may open this coming week. ;D
-
:o - I don't believe it. Great News!!
Sounds like that part came in.
-
please remember, I said "might" lol
With this freaking ride, anything is possible but I'm hopeful lol
-
Great!
Then it SHOULD be open by the first time I get to the park!
-
It's just great if it has a chance, lol
-
Front seat and safety goggles for me 8)
or at least 2nd row if to crowed
Also I will make a decision on opening my coaster draft pick the day of.
If you're all good maybe by noon ;)
-
It will be great if it opens with the park, due tothe fact that so many people are going to ride KK. Of course I don't think it will make it because it previous ride reliability.
-
I give up at this point. Its status has changed nearly every day this week.

What was the last status update you got?
-
Just go to the park thinking it's closed. This way you won't be disappointed if it is. On the other hand, think of the feeling you'll get when you see it crest over the top if is open!
-
I don't understand how they would be waiting for a part then they had all winter to order it? I hope this is not an indication of the season to come.
-
Well they probably didn't know it was broken until they tried to test it.
They don't test the rides for a few months and rides parts wear in that time.
-
How do you know it wasn't Intamin? At least they have four trains ready to go this year!
-
kk running 4 trains as of 11:45 am but slow
-
Thanks PCMan!
Good to hear!
-
make that 2 trains at 12:15
-
make that 2 trains at 12:15
Just out of curiosity since I work at GA and keeping tabs of things from school how did that happen? Did the switch track mess up again, or did the staff have to begin breaks?
-
about 1 hour
-
toro running 1 train and slow loading - 30-40 minute-rt 1 train 1 side- I seen and taked with the gm out front
-
nitro is a walk on
-
wiggles will be on tonights news -they have a satilite truck here- park is not crowded at all - looks like no one else coming in at 1:30
-
Does anyone know how KK has been operating in the past few days?
-
No clue but I know Chuck will be there today so hopefully we'll have a nice update :) Personally, I'd be overly impressed if the ride was even running in this weather. Its just too cold to get it up to speed.
-
Neither Kingda Ka or El Toro were running thursday.
Kindgda Ka because of the wind.
El Toro because of the cold. (Any ideas why this would be?)
Maybe the water in the water dummies are frozen in the trains!! ;D
It doesn't look like it will be getting warmer anytime soon!
It was warmer on New Years Day of 2007!
-
Yeah, i'm not expecting a Ka ride today. I'm barely expecting an el toro ride honestly with the cold.
-
toro easily saddles in the cold. woohoo! 1st post on wireless
-
Yes opening day while I was inline for Ka while testing Toro I could see the train barely get over that last hump.
its funny most other Intamin mega coasters come in the brake run flying.
They should lower that last hill a bit. that is the only part of the ride that disappoints.
Yes wade your message came through ;)
-
It will be interesting to see the reports back from those who attended the park today to see if Ka and Toro are operating.
-
Has Ka rolled back yet this season?
-
I just left and i didn't see them run. Only surprise was robin
-
Robin was runnin?
Sigh.
How was it?
And how come it wouldn't run for me Monday? :)
-
Kingda Ka - FOUR TRAINS :)
Chuck just called me ;)
-
Did Toro ever open up?
-
yup
-
Robin was runnin?
Sigh.

And how come it wouldn't run for me Monday? :)
It didnt open today. But it may open tomarrow.
-
Ka was running all four trains tonight! 5 rides in an hour on it and Toro was open as well.
Robin might open this weekend!
-
I was on my phone, so I didn't clarify my post. It was testing the whole time I was there. Looked good too!

Marathon Son! Post those pics! RJ, you should have stayed and met up with Chuck and I. It was so good. :)
-
I had to leave by 5 so I could get to Perth Amboy on time for Good Friday service, including dropping off my GF's sister and cousin. We ended up leaving at like 4 since it was cold and we got on everything we wanted to.
-
Kingda Ka opened around 2:30 yesterday. Got on in about 25 minutes before the line started getting bigger (I believe the max wait yesterday was up to 2hrs). Not bad a bad ride at all! Really great! Got second row and I know now to ride in the front because its smooth.
It's a shame they won't put the logos back. The trains look naked without them. Also, when I was on it was running 1 side, 2 trains but later it ran all 4.
Can anyone tell me why the ride ops pretty much staple you in? It's not necessary and when you go over the hump (which I actually got airtime on this time!) the restrain pushes down. One time it actually pushed down so hard that it crushed my legs.
BTW, hi! I'm new! lol
-
Welcome Summahboy.
-
What was the max wait on April 7th? Or was it even open?
-
Curious.. why did they remove the decals from the ka trains?
-
Maybe they got stained or dirty soemhow?
-
April 8, 2007 - Kingda Ka - 10.7 for most of the day. 10.8 for 30 minutes.

April 8, 2007 - Kingda Ka - 10.7 for most of the day. 10.8 for 30 minutes.
What does that mean??
-
Curious.. why did they remove the decals from the ka trains?
I believe they were peeling back....don't quote me on that though.
-
They remove decals whenever they clean up the fiberglass shells. Each off-season they are polished, waxed, etc. As to why they weren't put back on again? My only guess would be they don't have any more of them? No clue on that one.
As for the status of the ride, it appears mechanically that Ka is just fine :) These ups and downs are nothing more than weather related at this point. Its either been too windy or too cold. We should have a better idea in the coming weeks how it will really be operating this season but so far, so good :).
-
What they should do is make the decals Magnetic so its a quick on and off, a magnet that size should take all the wear and tear it will be put up to
-
^ So Robb can take it and put it on his car when he is old enough to drive!
-
Ka was up and down all day. Mostly due to the wind and problems with the train.
-
^ So Robb can take it and put it on his car when he is old enough to drive!
Exactly, Im glad to see somebody has caught onto my super secret plan.
So does this mean if I put them on my car, I can go 128 MPH on the Parkway?
(Oh and Free Rides for everybody but Chuck ;) )
-
Just curious, is there a set miles per hour where Ka stops running? Ie, it will operate up to 15 mph and once it goes to 16 mph, it closes? Just curious how they decide.
-
Peter...
Kingda Ka's computer is integrated with the Park Guest entry system.
When it detects YOUR Season Pass is scanned ad the front gates it does a complex calculation to determine when you will most likely ride Kingda Ka.
At these predetermined times Kingda Ka's computer will take the ride down.
;)
The computer probably monitors many parameters and then decides if it is ok to launch.
Wind speed/direction being one of these parameters...
But that is just my guess.
-
Plus park officials also judge the radar inside the Admin Buildings to see if its all clear to run. The cold weather is bad for Kingda Ka...:(
-
The green train is back and ready for use!
-
Yay, just in time for memorial day weekend. ;D
-
I heard Kingda Ka broke down today and was down the rest of the day. I will tell you all the status tomorrow when I go.
-
^ It was running most of the morning, with only 2 trains... the line was out past the main entrance where tickets are handed out. The other 2 trains were in the station, but I don't think they had enough staff to open the other side up. Yesterday might have been the busiest day of the year according to a couple of employees on Toro.
-
Employees were at Toro? You mean Toro was open yesterday :D
Well, this time of year and being a weekday, its not all that surprising they didn't have enough staff.
-
What is up with Toro?
-
Nothing Peter lol don't worry :) There were some folks over at source claiming it had a major malfunction last sunday and that it could be down for a while. It was a non-issue though ;s
-
Ka has not run yet. I have been here since 530.
-

Lies! Lies!
-
K-K-K-K-K-K-KLOSED May 25th!
-
Well if anyone goes on saturday please let us know the status of both KK and ET . Don't want to go sunday and have both down :0 . That would send a "wiggle" through some people LOL :)
-
El Toro was running amazingly on Friday. Both trains. Minimum stacking. Very good crew!
-
I was there on Saturday. KK was running all 4 trains during the day when I went on, and ET was running 2 trains very quickly. Had a great trip Saturday.
-
Two trains running today.
-
Four trains running with a two train wait, except for the front. I just got my 100th ride.
-
Dam :(
-
Ka ran without breakdowns from 7 till close.
-
Ka is currently closed as it is raining (Im Guessing?)
-
^ You were correct. I went to the park Sunday night and it was raining hard. They ended up closing early.
-
...... BROKEN DOWN
