You went down to Sonic and didn't stop by my job or Melissa's house?!?!?!?! Some friend you are.

Where did Sonic open? I didn't think there were any in NJ.

There is one in Waretown. It literally just opened like a week ago...

-
I wish one would open up here on long island. It would make millions here.
-
ok for all the South south Jersey residents you are getting a New Sonic and for people that visit Wildwood you can now Visit a Sonic
Rio Grande (Near Wildwood) and Millville (Millville also has the only drive in movie theater in NJ www.delseadrive-in.net Just off Route 55 exit 29)
MILLVILLE - The city's fast-food scene is about to go sonic -- Sonic Drive-in, that is.
The fast-food chain with '50s burger-joint feel is coming to Union Lake Crossing shopping center.
Known lately for its quirky TV ads and popular with diners for curbside service of slushes and tater tots, Sonic has only one other store in New Jersey, in Waretown. The next closest one is in Morgantown, Pa.
Developer Goodman Properties signed a deal with the national drive-thru chain last week, according to Chris Anderson, leasing representative for the developer.
"It's a very exciting new use for the area," he said.
Dan Reyes, chief officer of Millville Drive-In, which will develop the store, said construction could start in three weeks and the restaurant could be finished by mid-June.
Sonic will have 70 full and part-time jobs, and feature 22 parking stalls, where customers order through a computer screen and wait for an employee to deliver it to their car, Reyes said.
There will also be a patio seating for about 50 people, and a drive-thru, but no inside seating, Reyes said. The restaurant will be open year-round, he said.
Sonic will go up on a 1,500-square-foot site off Union Lake Boulevard, and near North 2nd Street, Reyes said.
Sonic Corp. decided a few years ago to advertise its product nationally, even though there are few locations in the northeast, Reyes said. Their television spots usually feature two people sitting in car discussing a particular menu item.
"So when the developers start coming, people are excited," Reyes said.
The only New Jersey Sonic is on Route 9 in Waretown. Reyes said he's also developing another Sonic Drive-In in Rio Grande, but the city's store is slated to open first, he said.
Anderson said Goodman wants to bring more restaurants to the shopping center.
-
Still pretty far from most people... but one in Rio Grande isn't a bad idea.
-
Yes I will be near the near WIldwood one ( rio Grande) more then I would be at Millville.
the Rio Grande is right at the Wildoowd exit off the Parkway so it a no braniner
-
Where is Millville?
-
It's about an hour west of Atlantic City. It's also about an hour from Wildwood. That's where we stayed for Morey's coaster event last year since hotels closer by were way too expensive.
-
Sonic does make some awesome Cherry Coke... and the cheesey tots are "off the hook". I might have to make a quick run there tomorrow now for lunch... Bubba??? You want in?
-
I might swing down to Seaside tomorrow. Maybe I should make a stop at the Sonic as well.
-
Drive all the way down to Manahawkin... go to the Wendy's, I bet the manager will even give you a substantial discount.
-
I would if we went but the weather is too crappy to head down to the shore today. Bummer.
-
I'm looking out the window and it seems pretty sunny out...
-
Yeah? Well its very cloudy and breezy here. Don't worry Rob. I will come visit you another time. :P
-
I'm not worried... tonight would have been a bad night anyway... Thursdays are SO busy, and at 8:30 we get a bus with about 70 mentally challenged kids... it gets pretty crazy in there!!
-
I always give Rob, Dan, Chuck, and Bubba a hard time about their fascination with Sonic and their will to drive several hours to get a "Sonic Credit". And now I see there is an official thread? LOL Wow, you guys are sheltered! Back in Iowa, I drove passed a Sonic four times a day (to from work). I guess it's kind of like my obsession with Pizzeria Uno's (at least until moving out here and living within 25 minutes of one).
-
I have no fascination with Sonic. I just like to do what other friends do.
^Wow, that sounds more wicked in writing.
-
Iowa? Maid-Rite!
-
^Mmmmm
Just teasing, Dan. It's fun to silly stuff like that with friends. I had a great time when I joined you and Bubba. :)
-
Looks like Sonic in Rio Grande will be a stop when in Wildwood
-
Matt, will my name always be in bold text, if so I like it! Almost if not more than I do Sonic!
-
Matt, will my name always be in bold text, if so I like it! Almost if not more than I do Sonic!
Was wondering how long it would take you to notice that! lol :D
-
No love for the White Castle, open 24 Hours!
I am sure that Bubba would agree
-
I've gone to White Castle about 5 times in the last 3 weeks. :)
I'm going to end up there a lot more pretty soon as I'll be working right down the street.
-
White Castle Sonic Krystals
Top Three
-
You forgot about the Golden Arches and CiCi's
-
Ok, the double cheeseburger is up there, but other than the brownie @ Ci Ci's I could skip it.
-
Pssssh. Whatever...
-
Iowa? Maid-Rite!
Maid-Rite is awesome!
-
Ok where is there a sonic in NJ ?? I loved it in SC but have never seen one up here . IS it anywhere near the park? We usually do Fudruckers on the way home from the park when we leave at decent hour . Fudruckers is off of exit 9 on the NJTP . YUMMY
-
the 2 new locations will be Millville and Rio Grande
Millville is in the Middle of South Jersey (about 20 miles South of Clementon Park)
Rio Grande is near Wildwood seconds off Garden State parkway
-
Sonic is about an hour south of the park. It's on Rt 9 in Waretown.
-
I've gone to White Castle about 5 times in the last 3 weeks. :)
And he has the killer gas to prove it! ::)
-
here is a revised map location
(http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/2905/sonic2vv3.jpg)
-
^
Are they building one on Cross Keys Rd?
Oh, it's Clementon!
-
I added the parks to show the Sonic relative distance to them.
So when driving to Wildwood its right there
-
Familiarity breeds contempt. There is a Sonic less than five miles from my house. Do I ever go there? No.
The nearest Krystal is two hours away...I go there more often! And what I'd give to live near the Cherry Hill Diner in Cherry Hill, New Jersey! :)
-
Im not even on the map
:-\
-
We need Steak And Shake out here!
-
I'm not a huge S&S fan... it's decent and worth a visit when going out to CP... but I can live without it.
-
You have to have the Double Dark Chocolate Fudge Sippable Sundae Shake to "get" S&S. :)
-
I never been but I'm getting hungry Hmmmm :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
I seen it near CP
-

Just reading that gave me a cavity.
-
The food is fine and all, but it's all about the shakes!
-
We went to check out the Sonic in Waretown, NJ after we left the park on Saturday afternoon. Boy, was that place packed! We had to circle the building a couple times before we got a spot and we had people waiting for our spot when we were leaving. I think they need to build more! :)
-
I'm friends with the GM of that Sonic and she was telling us on Sunday that there are plans to build about 15 more in Ocean County in the next few years.
You should have came to the Wendy's in Toms River instead, I was working!
-

Your burgers are too small! :)
-
ouch
Cool more Sonics
Now if we can get more Drive-Inn Movies it will be like old times
-
I'm friends with the GM of that Sonic
Why do we pay full price again ? Some friend !
-
Wendy's has chicken wraps now...wonder where they got THAT idea? :)
-

Idk? Where?
-
They thought of it years ago, just never made it to production, then McD stole it ;)
Anyone see the new Chili-Frito Wrap at Sonic?? It's a wrap with cheese, chili and Frito chips in it. It looks delicious.
-

I tried that on Saturday and it was pretty good.
-
I'll have to give it a whirl sometime soon, preferably when I'm feeling well enough to let Chili settle in my stomach. Today not being that day ;)
-
It's funny that Sonic has been airing TV Commercials in the Philly area you ask why
Sonic is looking for Locations in
Clementon, Voohees and I think Deptford
close to home :D
and other Locations in Philly
-
Sonic has been airing commercials in NYC, with not a restaurant within a 30 mi radius
-
Sonic has just opened a hiring office in Mt Holly on rt 541. There is some heavy construction going on at the intersection of Hancock Ln and rt-541 in Westampton, across from the turnpike entrance. Nobody seems to know whats being built on the site, it is zoned commercial though. The OTC yard and recycling processing ctr (where i work) are a few hundred ft from the construction. i don't know if the 2 are related though.
-
Sonic sucks down in Mississippi....
It's over-hyped!
-
^^My non roller coaster friend Chuck told me the same thing. I can't wait to have one around here under an hours drive.
-
You'll most likely end up going less if that happens. It gets old fast. BUT Watermelon Slushies and Chili Cheese Wraps OWNZ YEW.
-
According to our newspaper, one is supposed to open in Easton, PA next month. It figures that it's right down the street from where I used to work.
Actually, I'd rather not have one too close by. It makes it all the more better when you only have it every so often.
-
Easton is good, thats right over the Border off either 78 or 80
-
In 'N Out Burger is where its happening. With only 4 items on the menu to choose from, how can you go wrong?
-
Oh man, I love the In 'N Out Burger! 8)
-
The name alone cracks me up
-
And then there's Whataburger!
-
Whataburger?
Chik-Fil-A?
Jack in the box?

Road trip to Dorney with a stop at Sonic .. sounds good to me let us know when it opens ..
-
There's 2 Chick-Fil-A locations close to Dorney.
-
CONFIRMED: Sonic is coming to HAINESPORT, NJ. It'll be on rt-38 next to Canals liquor store between the 541 by-pass and industrial blvd. Opening spring 09 ;D. Just one mile from my house 8). Beer and Burgers, that will be an interesting combo.
-
So everyone that goes to Sonic in Waretown do me a favor?? There is a Clayton landscaping center directly across the street. There's a little booth at the entrance where Rick has to sit and collect reciepts because he injured his shoulder and was put there on light duty. Please wave to the poor miserable bored to death guy! It would make his day! ;)
-
I also I think I saw Rob drive by there around 12:30 ish yesterday when I was bringing Rick lunch from Wendy's LOL!!!

Sonic booms into region, one N.J. county at a time
Published: Sunday, August 31, 2008
www.pressofatlanticcity.com/106/story/243769.html
MILLVILLE - They trained in the empty lot behind the Kohl's. First with just the trays, then with cups of water, and finally, balancing full orders of food. On their feet: laced-up roller skates. On their minds: Try not to fall.
These roller-skating servers - or carhops as they're referred to in the business - are part of a new push to saturate southern New Jersey with the nationally known (but regionally-scarce) fast food chain Sonic Drive-In, which had its first Cumberland County location open last month in Millville.
Area franchisee Reyes Drive-Ins believes Sonic has staying power. The franchise, headed by CEO Daniel Reyes, is planning a dozen new locations in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Glouces-
ter counties. (Also in Camden County Clementon, Deptford,Voorhees) The restaurant at the Union Crossing Shopping Center in Millville was its first and only the second Sonic in the state, after the first one opened in Ocean Township, Ocean County, earlier this year. It was followed this month by a new restaurant in the Rio Grande section of Middle Township.
Company officials say a location in Somers Point could open in mid-2009.
So, as the product becomes more familiar, will Sonic be able to skate circles around its competition?
"The brand has a cult-like following in the South," said Ken-
neth Moran, chief operating officer for Reyes Drive-Ins, based in Fort Washington, Pa. "You don't see drive-ins like this anymore. You had the Stewart's and the Weber's and the A&Ws. You have not seen a good strong national (quick-service restaurant) come here in a long time; maybe not since Boston Market."
Boston Market's main competition is KFC. So-
nic, however, is facing off against heavyweights Mc-
Donald's, Burger King and Wendy's.
When comparing the chains, Moran says of Sonic: "This is a different concept."
That old Top Hat
they founded
The chain began in 1953 as Top Hat Drive-In in Oklahoma. It became Sonic in 1959, and today is the largest fast-food chain of its kind, with about 3,400 locations in the United States.
Patrons are served in an outdoor patio or can park their cars in stalls with individual electronic menus. The carhops skate back and forth between vehicles, carrying orders and correct change.
The menu consists of standard fast food fare, from hamburgers to chili cheese dogs, as well as breakfast burritos (served all day) and specialty fruit drinks and slushies.
A typical franchise fee is about $35,000. Moran said the investment in the Millville location was more than $1 million, including about $750,000 in construction costs.
Franchise fees have helped Sonic corporate, based in Oklahoma City, see growing profits. From fiscal year 2003 to fiscal year 2007, its total revenues increased by more than 72 percent, to $770.5 million. In that time, the Sonic franchise gained more than 400 new locations.
Although Sonics are still uncommon in many states - the first one in New Jersey opened in November on Route 9 in Ocean Township - its commercials have been playing to nationwide audiences.
Julie Ruth, an associate professor of marketing at Rutgers University in Camden, said the advertisements are one way to gain brand recognition while also appealing to prospective franchisees.
Sonic spent about $175 million in fiscal year 2007 for its media marketing - most of it primarily for television, according to a company filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The ad "kind of triggers some excitement," Ruth said. "So when you see an actual (location), you say, 'Hey, there's a Sonic. Wow.' And the entertainment value it has is an easier sell than just saying, 'This is a great brand of beef.'"
'America's favorite restaurant'
Friends William Wendt, 21, and Tristan Mosser, 20, made a point to stop at the Ocean Township Sonic last week.
Wendt, of East Rutherford, Bergen County, said it was his first time at a Sonic. Mosser, of San Antonio, Texas, said he comes across the chain frequently back home.
"It's America's favorite restaurant," Mosser told his friend, playing off the company's trademarked slogan, "America's Favorite Drive-In." He likes the specialty drinks and the sandwiches served on two slices of thick Texas-style toast.
Part of the attraction, customers say, is the drive-in service.
During lunchtime and on the weekends, the Millville location buzzes with carhops rolling across the parking lot and cars circling for an empty stall.
Being unable to skate does not preclude someone from being a server.
"If they can't skate, they're just going to hustle," said Mark Garra, a director of operations with Reyes Drive-Ins. (To be safe, the company does not require skating during inclement weather.)
Head carhop Julie Guarrera, 18, of Lawrence Township, didn't do much skating before this job. Days before the opening, she practiced behind the nearby Kohl's with her co-workers under strict supervision from Sonic trainers.
One time on the job, she fell carrying an order: "I had bananas all up my apron," she said, smiling.
For server Stephanie Mauro, 17, the job is fun, although roller skating all day is no easy task.
"By the time I get home, my feet hurt," she said.
Beefiest profits
A sampling of the largest U.S.-based fast food hamburger chains based on their most recent annual revenue:
McDonald's $22.8 billion
Wendy's $2.44 billion
Burger King $2.23 billion
Sonic $770.5 million
Fatburger $43.6 million* (includes nonrestaurant operations by holding company)

The more I have Sonic the more I realize how it's not really great.
Wendy's ownz...
-
Believe it or not, I got burned out on Wendy's years ago. Nothing tasted like it used to. And then the other day, I had a Double Stack. WOWSERS! And for 99 cents...I'd rather have it than anything else on the menu at any price.
-
Try there wraps....unbelievable!
Better than any Air Force food!
-
Having lost a pound or even two, I often eat wraps...with a knife and fork, leaving the shell for Mr. Trashcan. The insides of Wendy's grilled chicken wraps are far superior to those of McDonald's. And Maxwell AFB has great food....as does Fort Belvoir, but that's Army. . .
-
IMO, nothing beats a chickfila wrap though.

If you wanted a branch of the service with great food, you should have gone into the Navy and gotten into Subs. They have the best food around.
