Seen this on another site
Intamin 1st Generation Freefall towers all built in 1982 are up for sale Six Flags rides located at SF Magic Mountain, SF Great Adventure, SF over Texas and SF over Georgia.
http://irmpri.com/current.htm
then scroll to the bottom
it looks like they are going for $100,000 each
not a bad price for a small park to pickup a thrill ride
I guess will will see in the next few weeks
-
Cedar Fair tried to sell the one at Cedar Point last off-season and had no takers...
-
I just don't get it how they tried all year to fix up Freefall at SFMM and finally opened it, while the one here at GADV just sat dormant for the last half of the year.
-
Nobody will buy them. They cost way to much to maintain and are hard to obtain parts for.
Sadly Chuck, ours was closed most of the year because of the stupid policies put in place for when a ride needs a part, it must wait until next budget year (see teacups, ka's other 2 trains, etc.). Once they convinced upper management this wasn't a good idea (probably through the support of our new GM), it was finally repaired and then had nobody to run it. MM went through the same thing. The main difference is they are open year round so they finally got the positions trained and filled once again.
The ride is still costing way to much to operate. Unfortunately, I think they will just be torn down if there are no takers.
-
^Exactly.
Demon Drop's been for sale for how many years now?
-
Its probably worth mentioning that Free Fall has been removed from the rides list on the official site. It must be up to date to because they go out of their way to mention Koala Canyon being closed for 2007 for renovations.

How sad. I love Freefall. I thought for sure when they fixed it late in the season, it would remain open. I wonder what they are going to put there.
-
A big slab of concrete to go along with the other themed concrete slabs in the park.
Ok, sorry about that but we really need to start replacing Flat rides soon. The kid sections are great but what about people without kids and scared of coasters. They can't ride the big wheel , tea cups and Bumper cars all day.
I think it's time to call Intamin again for a 300ft ring drop. As it has the biggest free fall vehicle passenger capacity in the world.
-
I'd love that. They have small footprints as well.
-
Well, I had a feeling it was going to happen. Now what will fill it?
-
I'm happy I got a ride on Freefall towards the end of the season.
I had a feeling it might be my last time.
And I must say I still enjoyed it! Just as good as when it opened.
Sad to see it go!
-
Got my ride this year.
Yes I agree with Bubba A Drop Tower of some sort would be awesome in that area.
I remember when Free Fall opened for the season it was the "big ride" and talked about everywhere. Wait times of 2 + hours.
This was before the Mega Steel coasters so it was the biggest thing around at that time.
-
No more awesome pictures of SFMM against the blue sky. :( Hopefully another flat will replace it and provide great picture taking.
-
WOW I can't believe it . Just so sad to see another ride torn down :( !! I do hope that in some sort of decent time frame they replace that and spinmiser.
-
^They did replace spinmeister...just not with a ride. :P
-
Anyways, no more awesome pictures of SFMM against the blue sky.
You mean SMFF (Stunt man's free fall ) not SFMM (Six Flags Magic Mountain) Right ? :)
-

Yeah I know but I ment to replace it with a ride. At least make an attempt to replace the rides you take down.
-
I think over the next few years, we'll be seeing all of our empty ride pits replaced with actual rides....that work.
Baby steps though. I'd rather see them get what we have working and if it can't work consistantly (Free Fall), get it out of there.
-
It's sad to see it go. It was really different than any other drop tower in the area and its the only 1st gen. I've ridden. S&S and later generation free falls are thrilling, but no other drop tower could be placed in a corner of a park next to a maintenance area and give the rider a view of the whole park without exposing them to the ugliness of the back areas.
EDIT- Sorry about the previous rant. It was a bad day!

I do hope you are right Wade. Can't wait to see the park again in the spring it will be strange with no FF.

Great point Dan, I didn't realize that. Any other type of drop tower in that location would expose backstage areas. I don't think we'll see any other type of high aerial ride in that location unless its part of a bigger plan that would add rides to areas behind the freefall walls. There are still plenty of other great areas for an aerial ride. I agree with Wade, Freefall fell (pun intended) out of its prime many years ago. Coupled with the continuing problems of Chiller, its necessary to ensure that any nearby rides will have minimal downtime.
-
While going up the SLOW Nitro lift the "back lot" staging areas can be seen clearly.
Why would it be any different with a drop tower ?
Also a 300 + drop tower you can see for miles so location doesn't really matter ?
I'm I missing something ?
-
Not to mention the oh-so-pretty housing trailers...
-
I get the impression from this regime that a little more thought and consideration is being put into attraction locations. Shapiro himself made mention a few times now about how there will be no more coasters plopped in a parking lot.
Personally, I think a family spinning mouse coaster with the longer trains for high capacity would be a good addition to this spot.
-
Its sad to see a fun flat ride go. It will be missed.
But, Six Flags need more flat rides, their are not many left, and its going to leave us in a giant hole.
-
Buh, bye FF.
Glad to have ridden it 5x this season...
-
Times are a changing and FF going is a clear sign of that :'(
-
Im glad I rode it when I did this season. It stinks to have yet another ride taken away but the ride was old the parts were rare and it had problems. Sure the ride was fun and better than any drop tower but when you think about it FF demise opens up new possibilities for that spot.

I honestly don't like this decission. But it will save GADV money. But with there budget, I don't expect anything in there for a while Though, if the rumors are true, we may see a Wild Mouse there, but can SF afford it?
My grandmother took my brother and I on it when we were 4 years old and we loved it. And I took my little sister on when she was 5 and she loved it. It wa salways that introduction ride, that got you started young.

It's not truely SF that would make that decision. It would be GAdv's. Depending on the budget for the year. I'm sure they could since spinners or any wild mouses don't cost too much.
-
I would love to see a Wild Mouse at Gadv. I feel that's the only thing missing from our collection. That and a EuroFighter.
-
I wild mouse would be nice, as it would be a great addition, since families can go on it.
-
Can we get the capacity we need out of a wild mouse though?
-
Sierra Sidewinder? (http://www.rcdb.com/id3704.htm) FTW?
-
I think these rides that are popping up like Sierra Sidewinder and Tony Hawk's Big Spin fit Great Adventure's direction like a glove.
I'm just really impressed by how the whole 'Wild Mouse' concept has evolved over the years...when you think about it it really is remarkable.

Looks like they are sold not sure for relocation or scrap
