FIOS is ridiculous though Chuck... you have no idea what you are talking about.

Watch you bill!!  It has never been right since I got it.
Oh it won't happen on you next bill!

Internet = Ridiculously fast,  TV has a great picture

And stay away from any bonus promotions such as gift / cards and free TV.
Go for free service as you will have a hard time actually getting the free TV or Gift Card.
Record your conversation with the sales rep...and get everything in writing.

Still better than Comcast!  But I do miss Dish Network.

Verizon sucks...
You must have not seeing the commercials where the light goes everywhere and into houses, and family's are amazed at the picture and speed of the internet.

Its not just a commercial, its based on a true story :P

I <3 FiOS :)

The only reason I don't have FiOS is because there isn't service in the area.  After standing a few feet from the HDTV in Space Mountain's break room and seeing pixels everywhere, then going to a FiOS cart and standing nose-deep in the same TV and having not one pixel in sight, I'm hooked.

The commercials I used to get on Crap Warner was the snob eating cereal bashing the verizon guy that came to his door. Here it is if anybody has a free minute

FIOS really is amazing, I have 20/5 Download Upload. Super Fast. The HD picture is also amazing as it dont pixelate with black squares and lag. Also, I have not lagged out of an XBOX Game since.

I have the 20/20 plan.  The DVR is no TIVO (not even close) but it freakin kills Comcrap.

No issues on my $200 gift card though Ken.  I heard they had major issues due to overwhelming popularity when they started those offers.

The TV picture is AMAZING :D

Yeah...I think I was one of the unluck ones.  I've had to call them some many times.

And if you want to split the $100 referal fee!  ;)
It is credit towards Verizon service not actually $$.

FiOS isn't available in my town, even though its available in the town next to mine...

Time Warner really needs to get more HD channels.

In my part of town I can only get Comcast (which I had since they came out)
I'm at the 16/2 speed and most of the time its faster
but the upload speed stinks
Just a few miles down the road FIOS is available but when I stopped and talked with a technicin he told me my area would be another 6-12 months
he said he even didn't have it at his home.
But the 20 Mbps/20 Mbps $69  Plan looks good since the 50 Mbps/20 Mbps is a little to much at $139.00.

But I'm hoping Comcrap starts pushing out the DOCSIS 3 modems by the end of the year in this area which can download up to 100 Mbps and more (eventually)
but comcrap is full of crap with slowing selective users down.

TV I have basic cable, Dish and bell express

Crap Warner has no interest in giving you more HD channels for free. Not to mention, Waste Of Time Warners HD channels tend to be very laggy, unclear and constantly showing squares.

Fios runs at the speed of light, theres nothing faster

Tom, Crap Warner was fighting FIOS in court for control of the NYC Metro Area. In Staten Island alone since TV became available there are over 35,000+ Requests for Fios. The technician told me that and also that they have to call guys in from all over to help out.

Just so you know (since I know folks in this industry), I can tell you for a fact that Comcast actually tailors their throughput for all of these type of sites.  They can't sustain those speeds anywhere else and they end up killing the speed of real full size downloads.

I don't know if they caught on already or not but try testmy.net and see if it has the same results.

Title: Re: FIOS Board
Post by: Ogolo on August 29, 2008, 07:02:44 AM
It really bothers me that they can get away with these things.
Give high QOS to the network speed test sites only...Brilliant!

Even more astounding....
Comcast to Cap Data Transfers at 250 GB in Oct. (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2329170,00.asp)

With those rates you are getting you can meet your cap in minutes!!
Title: Re: FIOS Board

Why are they being such rapists?
Title: Re: FIOS Board
Post by: PcMan on August 30, 2008, 11:38:30 AM
on other test sites they are back to normal
must be some caching on speedtest.net or something  or the extended powerboost.

I'm now averaging around 20 give or take with the crappy 1.5 upload

And by the Way a few months back I did get a call from Camcrap about using to much bandwidth
I asked what was the limit and they said they didn't know.
they threatened to shout me down for a year if I didn't cut back (to the unknown amount which is now known)
if they are going to place a cap they should have some type of "meter" on my account that I can view when I logon the the comcrap site.
I do have other meters on my machine but thats only for this machine.
I know some routers can "meter" and log traffic.
The FCC better step in or this will spread to FIOS and other services.

this is a Good time for FIOS to advertise their services and beat down comcrap in the process  Make them look bad.

FIOS: unlimited bandwidth
Comcast: Limited and no ideas when/where/when you will reach that limit

FIOS: speeds up to 50mbps
Comcast: inconsistent speeds up to 16

FIOS: Uploads up to 20mbps
Comcast: 2 if you can even get it (I can only get 1.5)

FIOS: no FEARS of disconnection
Comcast: always in the back of you mind FEARED/stressed that your connection/VOIP/EMAIL/Business/communication can be cutoff at anytime without notice.

instead of building the tallest building in Philly they should have spent some of that money on infrastructure improvements.

Comcrap, Crap Warner and Craplevision are running scared because of FIOS. I returned boxes into Crap Warner the other day and so were about 20 other people. Comcrap, Crap Warner and Craplevision are ALL going to be losing money and customers due to FIOS. You can only screw your customers for so long before they screw you in the end....
Title: Re: FIOS Board
Post by: WadeJ on August 30, 2008, 04:33:31 PM
Tom, the restrictions are in place because their infrastructure is overburdened.  They are running out of bandwidth at peak times and in many instances are affecting overal network stability.  So unless they start rebuidling their entire network instead of relying on in some cases 15 year old coax, this will continue.  Or I guess they could figure out better and more reliable ways to compress other services such as on demand, VOIP and HD.  These new services like offering phone and trying to compete with High Def are killing them.  FIOS doesn't even blink when they load on more stuff since its direct to the consumer.

Yes, the money could would have been more wisely used on building infratructure instead of buildings LOL

For what its worth, Comcrap has gotten more reliable and consistant in performance in recent years in all of their offerings but this I'm sure has a lot to do with it.  Now its just being made public.

^ Very True Wade, FIOS can load and load and load and the whole system will STILL have plenty of space for even more...

Comcast now offers in my S.Jersey area
Docsis 3.0 Modems with 2 new speed tiers

ultra-fast up to 30 Mbps down, Up 5 Mbps $62
Extreme up to 50 Mbps down, up 10 Mbps $139

with both you need to lease the Modem at $3 a month

I have Blast 16 and I'm told I will be getting a free upgrade to 22.
At times with the powerboost I get speeds up to 28 but average 16-20

I will just wait for now or until FIOS is in my area then make  Comcast kiss my butt.

Consumer Reports had ratings of Internet, phone and TV Service this month.
FIOS got high/highest ratings in all 3 categories!
They got very bad ratings for Billing, Support, Termination Fees.

It would have to be a very good offer to make me go back to Comcast.
(Or if everyone started limiting your monthly bandwidth).

The FIOSTV picture is just so amazing.

Only thing I hate is that you have limited battery time for the phone in the event of a power outage.  (Make sure you get a spare battery from your installer!)

Yes rub it in you FIOS users with your fast upload speeds   LOL
I need to call FIOS to see what the ETA is in my area.
I call like every 2 months

if Comcast could get that 50/10Mbps down to around $79 i would jump on it.

Yeah you can go to Verizon's website and put in your address and it will let you see if it's in the area.

PS: FIOS is great.

I'm on the waiting list for FiOS. At the moment, I'm pleased with Cablevision, but nothing touches FiOS. Plus Optimum doesn't lock you into a contract, so I can switch at will.
Title: Re: FIOS Board
Post by: PcMan on January 18, 2009, 12:10:10 PM

No FIOS here yet,But competition will bring prices lower
I here the 50/10 tier will drop in price by the end of the year

Also for those with Comcast in the new Docsis 3.0 upgraded areas your speeds will increase at no charge
I think it's from  , if you have

8Mbps to 12Mbps
16Mbps to 20Mbps

remember to unplug your modem for 20-60 seconds every few weeks to see if you get a new config file and increased speeds
sometime they also say to uncrew the coax

^ That myth or truth about the modem Tom?

Competition is ALWAYS good for the consumer...ALWAYS

I feel bad however, I wanna invite you into the FIOS crowd, but the door wont open so now your stuck in the rain

To be getting numbers like that on FIOS you have to be using a wireless network connection dude.  Otherwise, I'd be calling tech support to get that line checked because the 20/20 plan should be blowing those numbers away.

My main system is always plugged in hardwire.  It's the only way to go if you care about real speed.

Upgraded 2 weeks ago to the New DOCSIS 3 Modem and the 30/5 speed tier.
I'm getting more then double what i had with the blast speeds.

I may be the only one in my areas and getting very fast download speeds.
at
http://philadelphia.speedtest.comcast.net/speedtest/50M/index.html (http://philadelphia.speedtest.comcast.net/speedtest/50M/index.html)

I'm getting 60/5  and on
www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net) getting around 45-50/5

I'm paying for the 30/5 but getting at times the speeds of the highest tier 50/10  (more like 50/5)

cost me $62 but it already saved me days worth of download and waiting so to me its worth it.

try this link and post back your speeds so i can compare

New FiOSTV Functionality Coming

Twitter, Facebook support and Internet video
04:55PM Friday Mar 13 2009

ReadWriteWeb has a good look at the upcoming Internet functionality Verizon is planning to offer via their FiOSTV set top boxes. FiOS DVRs are supposed to see new functionality this summer that allows them access to Internet video (via YouTube and similar portals) directly through the settop. This fall, Verizon is expected to integrate Facebook and Twitter functionality, along with a number of other useful "widgets." Users have been closely tracking the Verizon IMG evolution in our Verizon FiOSTV forum. Both AT&T and Verizon are obviously hoping that by being the first to market with additional Internet functionality, they can draw more customers over from cable competitors.
