From Screamscape:
Park News - (9/5/07) A Screamscape spy reported in with a quick burst transmission confirming that not only will Chiller be removed, but apparently they?ve already begun the process of stripping the internal systems. At this rate it?s expected that the ride pieces could start to come down before the end of this season.
And the rumors coming in are for a Mack Spinner.
Discuss.
-
I doubt this for some reason....Its stuck around this long, It will still be around....
It could be that I dont WANT to believe it....
-
I'm going to take a wait-and-see approach to this.
1. Chiller is scrap
2. Major overhaul/replacement/redesign of electrical system.
BTW, yes i know i've been away for a little while. Things have been quiet lately and i figured i'd pop in only when something exciting happened.
-
Even though it's a decision that i would have made myself a while ago, it sucks that it may be done. Here's to a better and more reliable ride in the future.
-
Finally!!! :)
Loops or Humps...I just never liked this ride.
-
I would be suprised to see it go just on the fact that they just sunk money into it this season . I mean they did just replace the track on both sides. I would be very happy to see a ride that actually RUNS there though. I guess we will have to wait and see.
-
Id kill to see this puppy sunk as an Artificial Reef off Florida or something...
-
You know what sucks, they invested all this money to take out the rolls and but humps in and Batman NEVER even tested on them. Sigh...

Quoted from TheKnowIt from GADV Source:
Well looks like someone let the cat out of the bag.
Chiller will have fallen by the close of the year. They are, as mentioned before, removing all components of the LIM electrical room, as well as the computer room of the ride. Taking down Chiller, as I mentioned in a previous post, has many benefits. I guess somone finally deicded these benefits over ruled the downside to removing the ride.
This will open up 250+ LIMs for other coasters in the Six Flags chain. The steel can be scrapped for a very high price, which could easily cover the cost of all they money they've flushed down the toilet in the past two years with the ride. The trains can be reused for parts on other LIM rides, and who knows, the station could even be converted to the new coaster's station.
I know before there were claims Chiller would stay. Well, apparently someone finally said ENOUGH and decided to make a smart move; rip it to the ground. They gave it many chances; you cant say they never did. When they opened Batman last year, it constantly was picking up errors and destroying LIMs. Then when last year when the incident came about, they fixed ALL the damaged track they knew of, and resolved the upside down valleying problem. Then they replaced ALL the bogies on the trains, with supposvely better, stronger ones, with the mindset they would not crack and break apart as last years did. They were wrong. And then, even AFTER that, they sent engineers to the ride and called up Premier to have a look. Progress was moving at a terrible pace, and as the price of another repair grew higher and higher, someone finally, finally said the heck with it. They tried, they really did. The thing had terrible luck. Amazing potential, but never fufilled.
Also; dont expect this new ride to expand into the arena / freefall spot .
-
I never rode the Batman side of the Chiller, EVER!
-
You really missed out! It was quite a ride. A front seat ride on that was my favorite ride in the park until El Toro was built.
-
A perfect coaster to be put in that spot would be an Inverted Impulse coaster.
-
OK and all the "other" coasters of this type are still running ?
Yes this leaves one thing open
Great Adventure NOW needs a NEW coaster to replace what will be missing if all this is true
first Freefall now CHiller
-
Tom you've got it all wrong...
First, 90% of the rides that were installed in 1999 :)
Then Free Fall and Chiller.
-
It's a real shame. When it was running, it was a great ride. I'll especially miss Batman which I haven't ridden since 2004.
-
i like chiller a lot... i rode only robin, 6 times, it was a great ride!
:'( :'(
-
I can't comment one way or the other but I can say to expect some great things to happen in this area of the park this coming off-season :).
-
Now what might that mean, Wade? ::) Haha!
Pete
-
Wade are you just a big tease or what AHHH .
I am kind of happy to see Chiller go just to see something Running in that area . I am also just as sad to see it go. I really miss the batman side as it hasn't run like forever it seems . I guess only time will tell.
-
Alright, we can actually talk about this now so lets make it official...
Obviously, for those that could read between the lines on my post above, Chiller is going bye bye :'(
Yes, it sucks, but its one of those things that will be better for the park in the long run.
I wanted to post this now because many of you may be on the fence about heading to the park tonight or this weekend but now knowing this you might be more inclined to make that trip to get a final look.
Were still hush about 2008. Look for official word from the park VERY soon though ;D
-
It is just so sad to hear about a coaster being torn down. :'(
I guess the camera needs to come to the park this weekend to get some shots of Chiller before it too becomes history.
Can't wait to hear what is going to come for us next season.
-
I know I am gonna be upset looking at Chiller tonight...
-
We have pictures from tonight over at GAInsider of Chiller being taken apart (http://www.gainsider.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=384) :/
-
Wow. That was quick. When I was at the park last Saturday, Chiller was completely in tack.

Grrr Wade...question. Will older people (13-30) like the new expansion?

We were at the park saturday and were very sad :( to see chiller in pieces already. It is always sad to see a coaster go but we have had too many years of just robin with no batman and too many problems. I too took photos but they just didn't come out so great . It will be intresting to see how much they take down before the end of the season.
-
I'll be at the park saturday. I'll be buying a few extra Chiller t-shirts now before they vanish.
I'm going to miss Chiller :'(

I wonder why the stairs are in MTWE?
-
^ Because that is where they put them :)
Seriously though, probably just for temporary storage until they get the cranes out of there.
-
What I am wondering is why are they strategically taking Chiller down and not ripping it down like they did with Viper, the price of the steel doesnt change....
-
So that it may be more easily reassembled where it is going. .
And the price of steel does change, it has gone up A LOT, but I know what you mean, it doesn't change regardless of whether it is nicely taken down or ripped apart.
-
Supposenly it is heading overseas somewhere...
-
I like how they split the stairs in two pieces, and set those suckers down. It had me fooled for a while wondering if stairs were ever over there by the rolls...
-
^ If they had stairs by the rolls, I think the rolls would've never been dismantled.
