That park closes it's gates, and puts a wrap on the 2007 Season, into the offseason we go :'( 10/28
It's an event that I threw on the Calendar...
-
what ? :o
its a little early to be calling the park closed or I'm I missing something here ::)
-
Wait are you talking about next weekend?
-
Robb...what the hell are you talking about?
-
it might as well be closed. tonight was a nightmare.
-
I am heading up to SFNE next weekend instead, did not get down to GADV this year as much as I would have liked too.
-

It was the worst I have seen it. TOO MANY PEOPLE you couldn't even walk . I am off to Hershey next weekend good luck at GADV if it is anything like this weekend.
-
Somehow I suspect closing day will not the zoo that last night was. . .
-
What do you expect? It was a Saturday night and it was beautiful outside...
-
I was told before Saturday that they expected atleast 50,000 people... if they actually reached that, I have no idea.
-
isn't 50,000 the parks capacity ?
-
I am not sure what the exact number is Tom and I got the feeling that they don't like that number to be knoen but it's closer to twice that number. I've been to that park on a 55k day in '99 and I don't remember riding anything. Every flat had a full queue.
-
50k has been hit a few times in the past few years, not too often though. I think the night Chuck, Dan, Matt an Clint went I was told they reached around 40k (but on the lower side). I don't even want to know what it's like there, I can't stand going when there's over 15 thousand!

I have never seen it more crowded than closing day last year. When I went to the first weekend of Fright Fest this year (on Sunday) it was extremely crowded. I got to the park around 20 minutes before it opened, and waited at the ribbon until they let everyone run through the park. I ran right for El Toro, and got on the first train of the day! Right when I got off, every switchback was filled and the line continued to the El Toro gift shop. It was unbelievable. I really don't enjoy going as much when the park is packed. I can't complain though, because I love roller coasters and enjoy just being at the park.
The best time I ever went was Season Pass Holders Day last month. I got on El Toro 10 times that night! I went right to El Toro and stayed on for 6 rides for the first 45 minutes I was there, but left to get on everything else a few times. I should have stayed at El Toro for at least an hour or and hour and a half. 9/21/07 = season pass holders day = the best 5 hours at Great Adventure I ever experienced
-
It's on the 28th, not this weekend!
-
I thought that you knew something that no one else knew, like the park was closing a weekend early.
-

I know chuck. But people get very testy on those kinds of nights. No one is happy when you cant even walk around the park let alone stand in a 4 hour line for a 30 second terror trail. I was super dissapointed moreso this year than ever before with the lack of fright fest like attractions.. bottleknecking everyone into 1 terror trail line right in the middle of fantasy forest was the worst idea ever.
-
Not quite as bad as declaring a war on lines, putting in a total of nearly seventy rides and attractions, and then operating maybe half of them on any given day...but yeah...(of course that was what Gary Story and company did...)

I know what you mean!

I was very dissappointed with Fright Fest this year. The new management has taken the "Fright" out of the Fest! They need to get their act together for 2008. I feel really bad for not only all of us that go there and it is super crowded, but also for the employees!
With this coming weekend being the last one, I sure hope they have extra security! I may go Saturday if the weather isn't too bad. But I am out of there before nightfall!
I was at Dorney this passed Sunday and it was nice, quiet, not too crowded and the lines weren't bad - had a pleasant time. But I guess that's because Dorney hasn't partnered with public transportation like Six Flags has with NJ Transit, where bus loads of people are brought in from NYC, Newark and other places, making the SFGA even more crowded! They should put a limit on how many people can be in the park safely.
-
But, you aren't comparing a Sunday at Dorney to a Sunday at Great Adventure. Last Saturday, the weather was glorious, and parks from Kings Island and Cedar Point in Ohio, Six Flags Great America in Illinois and Carowinds in the Carolinas all reportedly sat or nearly sat attendance records, not just Great Adventure. Halloween events are insanely popular, especially when the weather cooperates.
-
Actually, we can never compare crowds at Dorney to ANYTHING lol
I'm becoming paranoid of a GL move coming for Dorney at the rate they are going.
-
I personally enjoyed my day at Dorney last Saturday very much. It was nice to actually get away from Gadv for a time.
-
We were at the park saturday and it was a steady stream of people coming in . They did have a new set of signs that after 8PM there would be no re-entry. It was so crowded we left after getting to see the awaking parade and dead mans party. There were plenty of state troopers both inside and outside of the park . If is a totally different crowd then the regular season . There were people who lit off firecrackers in the parking lot as we were leaving , there were people getting high in the park as they walked around (only because I got a huge wif of it as they went by) and it felt very unsafe with the huge amounts of people and TEENS. My daughter was pushed off the DDR machine in the arcade and that was the last straw we left. Very dissapointed to see the way people can act when the park is so packed like that . ALL the lines had to be over 2 hour waits as we seen nitro all the way out to the WW enterance , KK was at one point near the bathrooms and ET was down the fence by the lake. As for medusa it was out past the sign and through all the in and outs . Sad to say we will not be back till next season but happy that the season starts again in about 5-6 months :) . Off to Hershey this weekend .

I know it's off topic but, are you hearing something the rest of us haven't. One of my friends is a DP fan and i know he won't like that.

I had a fun time on Saturday but could have done without the fight that broke out in the middle of the Boardwalk, a ride op having to scream at guests to follow a direction for 5 minutes, yelling from the audience in the middle of show and the trash all over the parking lot. The park was crowded a few weeks ago and everybody behaved ok. I felt like I put up with enough drama on Saturday that I thought today was Wednesday.

Maybe I am dense. Ok, I know I am dense but I don't get why it would remind you of Wednesday.
-
You're not dense. I wasn't clear that I work Monday through Friday. (It already seems like a long week because Saturday reminded me of another day in the city where I work.) I worked a 4 day week last week so it all balances out.
Here's the dialouge from the operator of The Great American Road Race:
Drivers stop your cars; Drivers stop your cars; Drivers. Stop your cars. (long pause) Drivers. Stop your cars; Drivers! Stop your cars. (Put Put Put Put Put) Drivers! STOP your cars! Drivers! Stop. (Put Put Put Put Put Put) Stop. (Put Put Put Put Put Put Put) Stop! (Put Put Put Put Put Put Put Put Put Put) STOP! Don't you people know the meaning of the word stop! (Put Put Put Put Put He He He) STOP! Stop Your Cars! STOP.
Then it was time to go through the metal detectors.

Those guys on the go carts have a tough job. They are forever dealing with stuff like that.
-
Yeah. I had to fight every instinct to jump over there. But some random guy running into the track area wouldn't have looked good.
-
there were a lot of people the 28?
how were lines?
