Title: Old Country Closing?
Post by: Majortom1981 on February 08, 2008, 07:31:23 AM
IS Screamscapes news real? Would Great Adventure close down a section that has atleast 2 still operating rides(music express and the bumper cars) plus the food and game stands? This doesnt seem right to me. Especially all of the traffic that area will generate with the Dark Knight.

Tom, half the rides that Screamscape says were removed from Old Country were never in Old Country to begin with.

WHICH rumor?  That Old Country still exists or that it has potential to be closed to the public this season?  :)

That a huge fence will block the entrance to Old Country and you will enter through Movie Town to get into that area.  Like I said " We Shall see"

...perhaps the major purpose of the fence is to block views of the coming 2oo9 attraction so that we can't see....

GADVwow, always hopeful...

If you go to the SF web page and go to the SFGADV site to the list of rides both musik express and autoban are both missing off the list of rides. I am thinking screamscape may be right ??

Theres gotta something big in store for this area, MTWE and Chiller was more than enough space for TDK and now you have Autobahn, Musik Express and possibly even SMFF and the Arena, I dont know about you but that is ALOT of space. This area will probably be used for future expansion, I have no doubt about it....

Visited the SF web site today and the new 2008 map of the park shows NO OLD COUNTRY . It is repersented on the map by big areas of grass and trees.. So what is in the works nobody knows but now we have no bumper cars or musik express. I think moving musik express is a little crazy as it may have been ridden more with TDK there as the height requirement would have brought guests with kids that size into the area. I don't know maybe it is just a mom or parent thing .;)

I just see it being moved into the junk pile.  It's old and run down.  Bumper cars however , even with the short cycle,  just add 10 new cars last year. I guess it's easy enough to stick them on a trailer and move them to a different park all together. Looking forward to the season to find out!

I've heard nothing at all stating that this closure is permanent.  Think of it more as planning for once.

At least the teepee is hanging in there.

I was hoping more of a revamping for future seasons but planning is also a nice start.

This season, we will be seeing a nice wall to hide Old Country for the GP, making it invisible! ::)

Ah, Six Flags fails again. I don't care about the area but at least savage one ride. I mean, Bumper Cars for instance. I could see it going in Evolutions spot or something.

Ha, but even with that, how about our new El Johnny Rockets in Plaza Del Carnival...

(3/17/08) Screamscape sources now tell us that Six Flags Great Adventure is now in the process of removing the Looping Starship. As you can see in this picture (see sidebar) taken late last week, they had already removed the counterweight arm from the top. Looks like it has also been removed from the list of rides on the park?s website as well as from the park map.

Old Country is such a depressing area, I can only say good riddance.
