Title: Ring Racer
Post by: kingdakafan on May 27, 2009, 02:19:01 PM
Guys i just remembered about this roller coaster in germany that was suposed to open this year but i haven't heard anything more about it. Its called ring racer and is supposed to beat out kingda ka for only the speed record of 134mph :headbash: The launch is 0-134 in 2.5 seconds and it is a air launch. it won't have a top hat, but personally i never think it will work. the launch is too intense and the coaster will blow itself to peices. Whats your opinion?

Some new construction pictures (http://freizeitparkweb.de/cgi-bin/dcf/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=3502&forum=DCForumID39)

We will have to wait for Chuck to report back.
Seems like a waste of all that speed.

I can't believe its RIGHT next to the race track.

OT: These Germans are crazy with their pictures and telephoto lenses. Just scroll to the bottom of that page to understand.

Ahh...Germany. The cool thing about it will be it's position right next to the Track. It will Race the fastest Cars in the World. I wouldn't mind seeing that actually. But with the Coaster's Launch Speed it will beat just about anything on the Road. Even the fastest Super Bikes!!!

I read that about 2 seconds after the launch trim brakes will destroy the speed to like 85-90mph.

Damn so that is really pointless.

Whenever it opens up I'm there, I'm only about an hour and a half from this place.

this rides gonna fail no way u can go that fast with out people passing out from those g's FAIL

Speed is not the concern when it comes to force.  It's the rate of the change of direction that causes the Gs to go all wonky.

The ride fails because it's braked to 70mph  before hitting the turn and then travels even slower back to the station.  It's only purpose is to race cars driving on the track I guess.  Go on S&S and check it out under thrill rides.

This is not true.  The speed of the ride is not the thing that determines the g forces, acceleration is.
The ring racer will have an acceleration of 21 meters per second squared, proved here (http://www84.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=speed%3D134.8mph%2C+time%3D2.5+seconds), this translates into 2.46 g's to the rider.  Lets compare this with other coasters.
Let's try Dodonpa (http://rcdb.com/id1423.htm).  This ride gives an acceleration of 26.5 meters per seconds squared, proof (http://www48.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=speed%3D106.9mph%2C+time%3D1.8+seconds).  This puts 2.7 g's onto the rider, more than what the Ring Racer will put out.  As Dodonpa is still operating, I doubt that people will pass out on the ride.

And just to confuse some of you even more...
A coaster could achieve even higher G-forces at much lower speeds if the change in direction (curvature) is rapid/tight enough. You can pull 3 G's going only 20mph (or less), no sweat. Acceleration is the derivative of velocity or change of velocity over time. Most people think of velocity simply as speed, BUT that is only one component of it otherwise they would just call it speed. ;) Velocity is speed in a certain direction. So if either the speed changes OR the direction changes, you get acceleration.

OK, as you were. :)

I just doesn't seem like it is going that fast.
Maybe this is during the break run??

It reachs around 130mph at the launch  however its lame how it slows down to almost 60mph about 2 seconds after launch.

for safety of the riders. They use the front stretch to give the feeling of racing the cars. (They're doing 190+ while the train is doing 130)

I wouldnt worry about it kingda ka is taller, faster for a longer time and more of a thrill. Sorry to all the ring race fans but the ride looks lame.

The only good thing about it is you're next to the race course. Yet, you do 134 and the F1 cars are going around 190. So they're still passing you with relative ease.

You are still accelerating faster than the F1 cars can.
